Says Ryan: "Those worms don't want to come out yet. They still have some growing to do." Says me: Now I know what you meant by 'raw footage', Ryan! Holy cow, kind of a real-life Aliens thing going on in your shoulder. That aside, this was, by far, one of the most interesting stories you have told. I love the juxtaposition of some of the harsh living conditions of the people you met along the way with their absolute down-to-earth friendliness, kindness, and joyfulness. Great work. You have certainly lived a full life so far! Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. Pete PS. So glad you were not harmed in the horrible event yesterday in your home town. I’m about to embark on a 80 miles overnight bikepacking trip with my 13 yo son next month and I think it’s a “long” trip and doubting myself. I can’t imagine 4,000 miles. Much credit to you.
Merry Christmas! We picked one of our favourite Duzer videos for a super thanks. Go for a nice winter bike ride and then have some frijoles and a burrito on us.
I watched and rewatched this video in segments because once was not enough. I was awestruck by your commitment to the children, people, and community in Honduras. That is not easy to find. Your kindness, happiness, spirit, and genuine respect of people are what I found most inspiring. Please continue sharing your light. Blessings.
The long way home was so heartwarming and enjoyable to watch. And especially the bestfriend,Jeff added to the fun for the rest of the journey. Wonderful.
1:30:27 Those kids love you like you're their own family, the influence you've had on their lives, and same in return, is a rare blessing. Bringing them front of mind at the closing of your epic adventure speaks volumes that this adventure was never meant for only you, what huge heart!
First, shame on you for not telling us this would be a "Tear Jerker". However, the interviews with the local people in Honduras, central America, Mexico, the whole journey, priceless. Things many people would not be able to experience without these videos. We owe you guy. Thanks.
Once in a lifetime adventure for sure, just kinda shows that once you have that set goal in mind and achieve it, there's no better feeling. Thanks Ryan for sharing your adventure!
Ryan, so blessed to find your channel. Been road cycling for 6 years. My dad was my sidekick until his passing on February 5, 2019. Still going. I ride a 2018 Cannondale Synapse. Looking to add mountain biking to my journey. I’m going to save up my money and buy my Trek Top Fuel full suspension all carbon in cash. Cycling heals me. So many hurts and so many mistakes.
You’re a hero of the cycling community… wonderful Ryan. Footnote: my mother was a 1st year volunteer for the Peace Corps during the Kennedy administration in Ecuador where she met my father- hence me. You have every right to be proud of yourself.💪🏽
Fantastic! Your journey in life is an inspiration, you haven't changed, your enthusiasm, the love and respect for people, the kindness you spread. We need more of that in this world! Thanks for sharing.
This is my favorite video!!! I'm originally from Central America, and I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your 2 years of helping the Honduras people. God bless.
I was truly floored by the news of the tragic and acrimonious events that took place in Boulder, a community you've spoken so highly of and the place you call home, Ryan. The warm welcome you received and elation felt upon your return home from your arduous two month journey from Honduras just resonated that much more as a result. I truly believe that the salubrious spirit of the community of Boulder witnessed in the final stretch of your long way home will now shine a much needed, enduring light in the darkness of present day circumstances. Sending love to you and your neighbours from North of the border. ❤️
Thank you for this comment. Sending love right back at you. The King Soopers grocery store is one block from where I yelled out “I’m home Boulder!” I love my town so much, it’s been a painful few days. We do have a strong community here, but this hit us hard.
@@duzer Your unwavering positivity will be so needed as you all do your best to move forward together. That GoFundMe campaign you launched, and the support it has garnered is simply astounding to say the least! You are a true force for good, Duzer. Be safe out there my friend!
27:42 I'm going on my first bike adventure from Vancouver to Montreal in June! This footage of grumpy Ryan shows that not everyday will be sunshine and rainbow. But the adventure is well worth the rainy days! Thank you for motivating me and being so helpful for my first cycling adventure! "Long live Ryan!"
You know, I watched this whole episode while continually thinking of the tragedy that just unfolded in Boulder. My heart goes out to all the family and friends that were impacted by that despicable, senseless, selfish act of violence. Keep your heads and hearts up!
Ryan, first my thoughts are with you and Boulder and second I've been anxiously waiting for this to happen. I started following you about a month ago and have loved your vibe and positivity but also that this isn't just about biking or running. Thanks for keeping it authentic and honest. I have been doing long-distance cycling for a while. I also run and climb. In 2018 I was at my peak athletically and then it came to a screeching halt when I came down with CFS. It's been a long battle to recovery but I'm happy to say I'm getting back at it again. Your channel has been a huge boost in this regard. I'm now planning on riding the GDMBR!
that was the full emotional spectrum, from getting verklempt at you leaving the kids in Esperanza to the fun of two young guys having the trip of a lifetime, and everything in between. I'm really impressed with your language skills.

Truly inspirational and heart warming as usual. Your work over the years has been such a pleasure to watch and experience. THANK YOU for sharing!!! Your Insta post this morning put my mind at ease knowing you were OK after the unpleasant and disgusting event that occurred. My heart goes out to everyone effected and the community. Watching this video with your excitement to return home, announcing to the city "Boulder I'm Home", makes yesterday's event feel like my heart has been torn out of my chest. When its that close to home, its rough. Im on the front line with these kind of incidents and they are terrible to work. Nothing better after the 1st big ride of this season, 1st brand new bike, brand new goals and challenges ahead! Than to watch this video while winding down. Your videos kept me motivated during winter and lockdown to get back out there and go further, always further. Thank you Ryan.
Such a great insight into Duzer ‘the Lad’, and there’s so much spontaneity and a real sense of a journal written on the hoof. I think the older tech adds to the nostalgic effect, grounding it firmly in its time rather than detracting from the enjoyment. Best bit - your interaction with the locals and trying to pop the bots! Worst bit - definitely the poor game cocks.
Ryan, thank you for sharing this heart warming story. You are an inspiration. I am planning my first ebike packing hammock camping trip in my local area. I am truly looking forward to this. Then once I gain experience, I will go further. After all I am 62 years old and plan on doing this in my retirement. Take care!
This is pure epic! Better as most of the TV movies nowadays! Just a few minutes in and it's hilarious! Very well done! Thx for sharing your old memories Ryan!
This was a fantastic and epic voyage of the heart and gives me a while new perspective on your channel. I smiled when you stopped in Omoa, Honduras, where I was working in a clinic in 1987. The coastline leading to the border recalled so many memories. I would never have dared to make that trip, but now I can through your story.
Thank you Ryan, It was truly a blessing to witness your journey. I can only imagine how much of a blessing it was to live it. Thank you for living, for loving and for sharing. God bless you brother ❤✌

This is really amazing, so glad to see the journey! And really stoked that the whole video is in 480, and 4:3! This would go nicely onto a VHS! Thanks for sharing this with us! :D
Thanks for sharing. You are an inspiration to me. I am 37 years now and I have always wanted to bike everywhere since I was a kid. And now I have started. Since April this year I have only used my bike as my transportation method for my self and my family. I liv in Norway and I am going to do this for life. Much love from Norway and once again thank you.
We just stumbled onto this on our RUclips feed, it was enchanting. The botflies, man, though. I was shouting at the screen "Don't try to pull them out!" We didn't really get the whole story on how you were able to get rid of them, whether they were already dead in there or what, I'm glad you didn't get a massive infection. Ah, youth. A great little film, we enjoyed it very much.
Ryan, just finished watching. Your book arrived in the mail a couple of days ago, and I can’t wait to read it to fill in the story. Keep riding and sharing. You provide positive inspiration to the world,
Hi Ryan i saw the video with my wife and i love it you have a good heart dont lost it. Im from honduras but i have lived here in new york for many years.take care yourself and remember that alot of people admire you.suerte amigo Dios te bendiga a ti y familia
He sounds and looks the same then as he does now 😅 It seems like you really had a positive impact on those children and the people of that town. The greatest gift you could have given. Planning on joining the PeaceCorps here soon myself 🤗
Amazing journey! I was a PCV in Costa Rica 93-95 and an AFS student in Honduras in1986. Your footage took me down memory lane to a time in my life that was full of adventure and lifelong friends but also much personal growth as my eyes were opened to life outside the U.S. and, at the end of the day, what we should really value. Thanks for sharing! Ok, maybe no thanks for the poop and bot fly splatter, but those are definitely classic Peace Corps moments! 😆 BTDT
This is beyond legendary! He travelled all that distance before we have Google maps, Uber, and all that technology!!! There was so many possibilities that he could be lost in the road, but he made it back home! That's crazy!! You should be in Guinness World Records for being the toughest man alive!!!
"Now what do I do?" You changed a lot of peoples lives and after that moment continued to do just that! Even inspired me to get back into cycling and currently planning my first bikepacking adventure. Amazing video. Would love to add a subscription after this video like everyone else, but I've been subbed for a while. Keep being you man! The positive vibes are contagious.
Wow!!!! Ryan, my family and I just found your channel and we’ve been watching your videos the entire week as a family. We are amazed by everything you’ve done (even though we’re not done watching everything).. But, this trip was wow, just wow, it brought back some memories for us. Thanks for your adventures. My wife and I just got into cycling, we’re actually from Longmont, so we really hope one day we’ll meet you. Heck! Maybe you can show us some nice places to ride in Boulder!
@Ryan very touchy and uplifting story, I must confess that tears popped when you left La Esperanza, those kids and their smile tells how important was you for them. The Latin American Souls, my heritage, so proud to be a Latino. Gracias Ryan for your contribution, those kids will never forget you. Gracias mi amigo!
Super awesome man, what a wonderful adventure. Can’t wait too get on my bike-packing trip this summer. Sweden-Marocko summer 2021. You are a true inspiration, keep doing your thing♥️♥️♥️
Another amazing dose of "Duzer inspiration", babyface edition. Thank you for putting this together, even 15 years ago, your energy was infectious and your sense of adventure palpable. Wow!
The fact you still had the footage, remarkable. The idea you worked some sort of NSA tradecraft to get the footage from tape to digital, remarkable. The size of that Honduran boom box, remarkable. And twenty-minutes in I'm reminded, once again, of how much I miss Latin America. Increible!
its 10am and im tired from doing videos for my channel. Im already a fan..so yeah while editing lets watch ryan on his bike. Then this happen. suddenly im energetic and motivated. Dude..your channel have been a companion in all my long drives..the baja especially. Bless u man! Blees u! WHAM!
Ryan, I really love the videos you put out! The positivity and the grateful mindset is so admirable and it really inspires me to try to adopt it. Evenmoreso seeing you being more realistic here, when you were frustrated or dealing with the botfly's. Seeing the friendship between you and Josh. Everything about this is so inspiring and great! I hope to one day soon be able to do some adventures like these! I also hope Jeff is doing well, hes one hell of a guy to be willing to do this with you all these years ago. Thank you for sharing your life and positivity with us!
Thank you, Oliver! I really appreciate the kind words. This was indeed an incredible experience, and I’m so glad that Jeff was able to join the fun! He’s still doing great!
I'm only 8 minutes into the video so far, but I had to go dig out my maps to see if I rode through (motorcycle, not bicycle) La Esperanza in 2007. Sure enough we did! And now I have my maps out to follow along. Can't wait to watch the rest!
Geez! Watching the kids in the beginning and the love and innocence crushed me! Wiping tears in a coffee shop knowing that they just want to live a good life and be treated with respect. Very much respect to you buddy on serving in the peace corp as well. I’ve done three tours and April’23 will be of a fourth! Thanks for your great energy and decision to be so positive. It is a decision we all have to make.
Loved this! Thank you brother. So much goodness, road magic, what a great inspiring watch. Maybe someday I'll get off the couch, off the laptop, and do a bike tour of my own! Someday soon!

Thank you for supporting the families with what happened in Boulder Ryan. Made me really proud to see how much has already been raised, and that you started it.
this man is the most genuinely joyful person I've ever seen. I aspire to be like him one day
This is really amazing, so glad to see the journey!
Enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks for making it Ryan.
Great! Glad you enjoyed it
Ryan, just finished watching.
Gracias!! Honduras tiene una gran parte de mi corazón
He sounds and looks the same then as he does now 😅 It seems like you really had a positive impact on those children and the people of that town. The greatest gift you could have given. Planning on joining the PeaceCorps here soon myself 🤗
Score! I have always wondered what your trip home from Honduras was like. Now I know, thanks to all your editing. I super enjoyed this, thank you!
The natural beauty of the women in honduras, the way they smile at Duzer. Spectacular! Wow.
That’s so true
Loved the video and the book, everyone should do both. Thank you for sharing your life with us mortal humans.
Thank you!! I really appreciate that you took the time to read my book (and watch this video) You are awesome!
By far, the best video yet! The world needs more Ryan Van Duzer's!
Another amazing dose of "Duzer inspiration", babyface edition. Thank you for putting this together, even 15 years ago, your energy was infectious and your sense of adventure palpable. Wow!
So sorry to hear about the tragedy in your home town. My heart goes out to all affected by this senseless act.
The fact you still had the footage, remarkable. The idea you worked some sort of NSA tradecraft to get the footage from tape to digital, remarkable. The size of that Honduran boom box, remarkable. And twenty-minutes in I'm reminded, once again, of how much I miss Latin America. Increible!
Ryan, I don't have a lot of words for all of this. That was amazing. Keep going!!!
Appreciate that!! Stay tuned for more
Ah, one of those vids from back when all of us forty-something thought a ‘belly’ was what that tiny amount of baby fat we had. 😂

Right on!! Glad that these videos can give you a little spark! Good luck with everything
I absolutely love the explicit content!!
This was a joy to watch. Thanks Duzer!
Watching you videos inspired me to get ona bike at 57 years old with artritis to do ride 450 milles in 12 days in Florida from Orlando to Miami
That is quite a ride. Congratulations.
@@lukespack thanks I enjoy first time
Thanks for making this, I was looking at your east coast adventure as well. Loved the humor in this.
Just finished the book! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. You continue to inspire. Thank you.
Oh nice!!! Thanks so much for reading it, I appreciate your support! Hope 2023 is treating you well
I'm only 8 minutes into the video so far, but I had to go dig out my maps to see if I rode through (motorcycle, not bicycle) La Esperanza in 2007.
Such an awesome story! Thanks for allowing us to live vicariously through your adventure!
Glad you liked it
Ryan those Honduran kids miss you time to go back bro.
An incredible feat and journey! You and a few other RUclipsrs continue to amaze me with your unbelievable feats and accomplishments.
Thank you, Tom!!
Thanks so much for sharing your story, I really enjoyed it.
I did some mountain biking in Hoduras in 1990 and I had the same warble fly experience!!
This was fantastic, inspiring, wildly entertaining and HOPEFUL. Thank you Ryan.
Yay!! So glad that you enjoyed it!!
Loved this! Thank you brother. So much goodness, road magic, what a great inspiring watch. Maybe someday I'll get off the couch, off the laptop, and do a bike tour of my own! Someday soon!
This was amazing, Ryan. Thanks so much for putting this old footage together and sharing it with us. It’s so real and raw and you and Jeff have such a great passion. I can’t wait to be able to go on cycling trips again!
Thanks for watching!! Hope you get out there soon
absolutely loved this movie! you were just a young duzer having the time of your life! you are an incredible inspiration man, you got me to officially ride across country, you have gotten people to change their lives and start riding, and most of all you have spread your love and happiness with you all around the world! keep doing what you are doing, keep being this amazing kind person, and keep riding on! ✌️
Somehow I JUST found this film. I work in media and film. Sometimes it’s a struggle and you feel miserable. But this reminded me why I love stories, films and cycling. Thank you
This is my idea of a life well lived. Hats off to you, Mr. Van Duzer.
Such a wonderful video from the archive. So glad that you got the opportunity to put this edit together and share it with us all. Any other hidden gems in the cupboard that we haven't seen?
