So the problem happen in Laos but at the end the reporter basically said it’s ‘dangerous’ to travel to South East Asia and made a report in Thailand instead of Laos like Thailand and South East Asia also have to be responsible in this incident that happen in Laos? Why over generalizing? Like if bad things happen to Asian tourists in France, should we also blame UK and all Europe? And imagine reporter also make a report from UK instead of France where the incident happen.

I remember being warned by someone about the whisky in Thailand and south east asia when I travelled there several times in the early 90s. Some brands were deemed not fit for human consumption by the WHO, it was alleged. Some labels have made numbers of locals go blind, they said. methanol is a by-product of distilling ethanol (the "safe" alcohol). The first few volumes of the distilled alcohol contain mostly methanol and need to be disposed of. This is why it is illegal in a lot of places to distill your own alcohol. Because people arent careful enough or dont know how to rid the product of the methanol. Incidentally, one of the treatments for methanol poisoning is to give someone a lot of ethanol (basically get them super drunk). This counteracts the toxicity of methanol which causes blindness and nerve damage. It is very sad and preventable to lose these beautiful young people to such a careless event, but more than likely it was not done intentionally or maliciously, and my guess is the owner of that hostel got his hands on some liquor he thought was a great deal but it turned out to be poison.
