Microsoft won the console war with Xbox 360 and lost it with Xbox 360. Microsoft was smart asf to drop the 360 a year ahead of the PS3. And Xbox 360 had heavy hitters lineup of games but that system 3red lights of death pushed some of us 360 owners to the ps3 and we never looked back. If that system was working properly at the time. Xbox would’ve been took over the entire game industry worldwide.

I like my x box, but bought x box Series s in the middle of covid when PS5 were sold out. Still a good investment, and i like gamepass and some of the exclusives, but i doubt next generation I will buy X box

Xbox as a gaming division is like a kid trying to build a tree house by himself. Microsoft is the parent, just watching. At first, nothing of importance or value was being used or taken for the endeavor, so the parent doesn't intervene. However as time goes on the kid gets a bit more creative and ambitious. Starts using materials that actually cost money, and the work seems to starting to get hazardous, without supervision. Now the parent needs to step in, mandating limits, and holding the kid responsible, especially because the tree house is not actually coming along. Now the kids needs to get a paper route, and be hold accountable for the materials being used. This is not about Xbox and their "intentions". It's always been about money, all companies are. However, now is about Xbox management, to answer to the ones providing the capital, and that means, that now they need to actually be adults, and worry about profits, and the shareholders. Now the Xbox division, is being held accountable, when before, it was fine with just being a loss, so small, the parents didn't care, until now. Bethesda needed some changes. Not the closing of all these studios but a refocusing on their IP's. It's been 13 years since Skyrim released. That's way too long for a game that successful. In the meantime they released some unremarkable stuff. Brink, Rage, Redfall and Starfield are all games I could live without if it meant more ES and Fallout.
The articles recently around xbox behind the scenes wanting a new fallout sooner than later I think speaks to what you're saying. They're aware they can't take a decade plus to put new games out. I also wasn't the biggest fan of starfield though I think the game was better than it reviewed.

correction, its not that games take too much money to make thats the problem, its that sony and xbox keep inflating their game budgets to unreasonable ones and then aren't able to make back up the costs, have you seen spiderman 2's budget for example? you don't need those ridiculous budgets to make good games, japan doesn't make those mistakes(other than capcom and square enix), they make successful games with non-inflated budgets. this whole trend of only focusing on these big budget triple A games and then inflating the budgets of said games and not having any smaller double A titles or indie titles is what causes sony and xbox to fail. steam and pc and nintendo don't have this problem. nintendo and steam still push indie support and double A game support and don't waste their money on triple A games, and if they do make a triple A game its not the west version of triple A, its a quality made japanese triple A experience.

Xbox as we knew it died when they launched kinect. But didn't become apparent before the release of Xbox one. Playstation as we knew it died when they moved their HQ from Japan to California. That too haven't become apparent just yet, but wait and see.

Xbox died when Halo 4 came out, hasn't been anything good in mainstream Xbox since that dropped. Rest are from companies they bought and now abandoning. Feels bad as I first played the first few halos at a friends place, and some of the other games through the years on another friend's Xbox like Assassin's Creed. This is a level of incompetence matched only by Sony when it comes to cybersecurity (they’ve had like 9 or so MASSIVE data breaches. That’s one of the various reasons HellDivers 2 pc players bullied Sony into reversing course with the TERRIBLE PSN account requirement) and there track record with films (if you look up any worst movies list there’s bound to be a few Sony ones on the list. Things like Morbius, Madame Web, the Emoji movie, and a Slenderman movie made however many years after that creepypasta was no longer relevant🤣. Really depends on how you're looking at it. As a consumer who pays attention, I hear and see much less bullshit coming from Sony, making their products more appealing.
My issues are entirely with the software output which I think has been lackluster for a while now, game pass is great value but it’s clearly eroding the ability for Xbox to make money long term. I do like my series x but without compelling software it collects dust more often than my ps5.

I got both. Have a Gaming PC and an Xbox Series X. Series X is for Story games and PC for competitive games plus work of course.

The entire console market is flat. Sony is in major trouble also. PlayStation is worse off than Xbox. Their profit margins are far less and they don’t have a 3t dollar company backing them. PlayStation is gonna have to go multi plat as well to survive. 300 million dollar exclusives are not sustainable. Exclusives in general are killing the market. At least Xbox is trying to evolve. Sony just has their fingers in their ears.

correction, its not that games take too much money to make thats the problem, its that sony and xbox keep inflating their game budgets to unreasonable ones and then aren't able to make back up the costs, have you seen spiderman 2's budget for example? you don't need those ridiculous budgets to make good games, japan doesn't make those mistakes(other than capcom and square enix), they make successful games with non-inflated budgets. this whole trend of only focusing on these big budget triple A games and then inflating the budgets of said games and not having any smaller double A titles or indie titles is what causes sony and xbox to fail. steam and pc and nintendo don't have this problem. nintendo and steam still push indie support and double A game support and don't waste their money on triple A games, and if they do make a triple A game its not the west version of triple A, its a quality made japanese triple A experience.

Xbox died when Halo 4 came out, hasn't been anything good in mainstream Xbox since that dropped. Rest are from companies they bought and now abandoning. Feels bad as I first played the first few halos at a friends place, and some of the other games through the years on another friend's Xbox like Assassin's Creed. This is a level of incompetence matched only by Sony when it comes to cybersecurity (they’ve had like 9 or so MASSIVE data breaches. That’s one of the various reasons HellDivers 2 pc players bullied Sony into reversing course with the TERRIBLE PSN account requirement) and there track record with films (if you look up any worst movies list there’s bound to be a few Sony ones on the list. I agree wholeheartedly that Xbox is a complete dumpster fire. That’s why I play on pc (where Microsoft have been porting their games for years, and Sony is now doing the same. Thanks to emulation and ROMs I can also play a lot of the games those studios haven’t ported to pc). I’m just saying that their dumpster fire is only matched by Sony when it comes to anything other than games and hardware.

Really depends on how you're looking at it. As a consumer who pays attention, I hear and see much less bullshit coming from Sony, making their products more appealing.
My issues are entirely with the software output which I think has been lackluster for a while now, game pass is great value but it’s clearly eroding the ability for Xbox to make money long term.
I do like my series x but without compelling software it collects dust more often than my ps5.
