    From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
    Cast: Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley

    Recomendable cien por cien.

    I know that Mark Ruffalo's character is a bastard and deserves everything he gets, but I can't help feeling a bit sorry for him. More so for the assistant though. It's just mostly how Bella unintentionally hurts people by infidelity and such.

      How does she hurt people by "infidelity"...?

    • @twistedpersonality
      @twistedpersonality 3 дня назад

      Well. First off, she leaves the assistant to go on an adventure with Mark Ruffalo's character, even though they're engaged and she actually intends to still marry him later on. She IS mentally a child, which makes it excusable since she literally doesn't know any better. Then, when she's adventuring with ruffalo's character, she repeatedly has sexual encounters with other men. Something which Ruffalo's character absolutely deserves and again, she doesn't know any better. What kinda bothers me though is that later in the movie, even she has matured quite a bit, she still doesn't seem to realize, or care, how her actions affects other people.

    • @trebaneconapise7793
      @trebaneconapise7793 2 дня назад

      @@twistedpersonality Okay, how did the "infidelity" affect them? She never made an agreement with Duncan to be strictly monogamous, and her engagement to the assistant was always more rational and practical than romantic. And they didn't agree on monogamy in that relationship either, may I add. Throughout the whole film she's fighting against people around her trying to control her, sexualize her, infantalize her, and again and again she's just choosing to live for herself. It's not infidelity if you never promised fidelity to anyone, it's just her enjoying being a sexual being and exploring the world before settling down. Duncan kept throwing tantrums over it because he expected to have a cute little stupid doll to have sex with whenever he pleased and wasn't used to something not going his way. None of her other lovers were uncomfortable with knowing she was in open relationships. Her being a sex worker wasn't treated as something disgusting in the film, just a job that she mostly enjoyed and learned a lot from.

    • @twistedpersonality
      @twistedpersonality День назад

      @@trebaneconapise7793 Well, Duncan is an asshole that deserves everything he gets, that's true no matter how you look at it. And no, I'm not against the idea that she should be free to live her own life without people trying to control her. But I do still think that some of the things she does are pretty hurtful, even if she doesn't realize it herself. I know the assistant doesn't care much, but it is pretty hurtful that even when she's matured enough, she chooses to cancel their wedding in favor of going with the man that her "mother" was married to. Of course she has a right to find out about her past and live how she wants, but I found it a bit much that she would take it that far.

Its just a bunch of creepy men/women living out their perverted fantasies and obsessions and playing with the idea of control over someone. Yeah, as if movies weren't supposed to be real life, right? There was no symbolism whatsoever in this film, no fantasy, they aimed to make it 100% realistic, not bring up the problem with some men infantilising women and wanting full power over them, this world maybe needing more of the childhood idealism, the fact that people generally don't take children as separate beings with free will or make sort of a manifesto, call out to people to fight for a brighter future. Why would they, cinema is like classicist theatre, perfectly showing real life including time span and unity of place.
      (In case you didn't understand, this was way too much effort put into several lines of sarcasm. It isn't people's problem you have shallow understanding of themes in fiction. If you don't get something, you don't have to - and it's better not to - say anything about it. Learn something about screenwriting, character development, directing and storytelling in general and then complain. You could add sociopolitical general awareness while you're at it.)

      Yorgo's work is very specific. If you have followed his work and progress, this is his first "Guy Maddin-ish" film. Where he plays with the aesthetic of the film. Guy Maddin is a Canadian director who has a habit of making his films look like Polaroid montages found under the rubble of a war. He is pure aesthetic. You probably won't like his stuff, but the example fits my argument. Give him a try if you can. My favorite Guy Maddin film is "Tales from the Gimli Hospital." It is like a David Lynch movie on crack. Unlike David Lynch's stuff, you can actually follow this one.
