This was a great interview. In case this might be helpful to someone, before I started I asked my doctor how many people he had on GLP-1s (100+ -- and he is just an internist, not a weight loss specialist), how many had stopped because of side effects (none), and how happy he was about his practice having such a new focus (very happy because of the ability to help people). If I had gotten different answers I would have considered a telemed option. I've noticed that since that conversation six months ago he has shifted the public focus of his practice to weight loss and lifestyle - and he is in our enormous local hospital group. I imagine he is not alone!
Thanks for having me on the show, Christopher! It was a great discussion and I hope it is helpful for those interested or currently taking these medications to learn more about them. Happy to answer any follow up questions as well in the comments.
Dr. Zucchi, I have a question. Does the patient get used to the medication over time? If so, how long does it take for the medication like semaglutide for example loses its effectiveness. Thanks so much!
Excellent discussion! Thank you! ❤ I’ve been on Zepbound for five months. I’ve lost 41 pounds and feel wonderful. I am on my second week of 10mg. I love it! God bless everyone on this journey. 🙏❤️🥰
I read many medical journals re: GLP-1s as well as study what gets out to the public. PA Zucchi encapsulated the great majority of what new and continuing GLP-1 users _must_ know in order to allow the medications to do their part of the work while starting and maintaining their parts. His knowledge and ability to give the information in a clear and concise manner was absolutely phenomenal. I will be asking your permission, Christopher, to add this to my own Playlist so I have, what I consider, THE primer for GLP-1s. I have watched hundreds of doctors and "functional medicine" providers discussing GLP-1s, both for diabetics (as I am) and non-diabetics (as the majority of those on GLP-1s are) and have never come across a segment as comprehensive as this one. (Can you tell I am impressed?) PA Zucchi, I hope there is a book coming from you soon. I have been with and through my share of providers and you, dear Sir, are incredible. Thank you for your hard, and vitally important, work. - signed Barb Herrera, retired birth worker and midwife of 32 years.
Thanks so much, Barb! 😄 I truly appreciate the positive feedback and I'm glad you found the video so helpful. We tried to touch upon all the major questions that people may be wondering either prior to starting these medications or while already on them. These medications have brought about such a transformative shift in the way we approach obesity and metabolic health and my goal is always to ensure that patients and healthcare providers alike have the clarity and understanding they need to make informed decisions.
Great comment, Barb. I waited to watch this so I could give it my FULL attention, and it did not disappoint. What a comprehensive and grounded approach Dr. Zucchi has. I wish he were my doctor (although mine is great, too).
@@MindyMikami I'm so glad that PA Zucchi is accessible to more people by now being telehealth, too. I bet he is inundated with requests after his interviews. I am still thrilled with how great this interview was. Love ya, Mindy!
Awesome medical professional. I feel like I know mostly everything about GLP-1s already but really enjoyed listening to him and hearing it from a true expert. When I see my doctor, I feel like I'm teaching him. Thanks for the amazing interview!
WOW what a great interview! I’m about to start ZEPBOUND on this coming Friday after Medicare approved it for my sleep apnea and every question I had or didn’t think of before was answered! Thank you for this great resource:)
Excellent Video!! I was glad to see him emphasis eating enough protein when you are eating less. To many who are on these drugs continue to eat their junk food and not get enough protein and look terrible and lose way to much lean body mass. When I learned how to eat correctly and went to my Doctor and explained to her how weight loss and weight maintenance works by eating correctly and after I told her what i was going to do my first question for her was, I want to maintain as much lean body mass as possible in a perfect world how much should I weigh if I maintain it all? She did somethings and check me over and said if you were to weigh 230 pounds they would call you slim as much muscle as you have. I went from 348 pounds to 217 pounds in about two years and have maintain this weight loss for over Four years. I have more energy today at 75 than I had at 25. My doctor thinks my weight is perfect for me. Good Health to all of you. Again Great Video!!
@@HealthAtAnyCost I am just an average guy who was obese my whole life that had an unfortunate farm accident that turned out to be a blessing. Plant Based Minerals are very very important to the body. Things to remember 1. Plants do NOT make minerals if it is not in the soil it is not in you. Different Plants require different minerals to thrive where we need most all of them every day so eating a good rounded diet is highly important. When you are eating correctly 100 percent of the time the food noise will go away. The key to weight loss and maintenance is getting good nutrition and being able to absorb the nutrition you do eat for when you do the hunger and cravings will leave you(food noise) and when you are not hungry losing and maintaining weight is without effort . Many are accomplishing the same thing with GLP-1 without the focus on nutrition. People would be dumb founded if they realize most all heath issues today are from nutritional deficiencies where two hundred years ago health issues were from virus or bacteria not nutrition deficiencies. There was good reason every covered wagon going west had a butter churn in it. When I have time I will write a paragraph and tell you what I eat in typical day. I pray that you stay in good health because, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR HEALTH YOU DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING! Good Luck
@@davidadcock3382 Such great thoughts, David... thanks for sharing them. And yes, our soil integrity is vital, you are absolutely right. My son Tristan, who was interviewed here on "The Downsized," too, is a staunch vegan. Despite my being a vegetarian and vegan most of my life (even at 350+ lbs), he has taught me much about the things I missed in my (I thought) great educations in how to be a healthy veggie. It certainly wasn't eating McDonald's fries every day! Yeah, I knew that was "wrong" and now know the ultra-processed foods are an addiction I have had for decades. I'm rambling, sorry. I really love what you had to say. Thank you for that. It would be fascinating to hear what you eat every day. How about going on "The Downsized" and be interviewed, eh? I think you would be fascinating!

This was a great conversation. I will say i tried Rybelsus and had really bad gastric reflux. I switched to Tirzepetide and all that disappeared. This man was very good at sharing information. I think all the questions got answered. Thank you so much!
I’m switching doctors due to retirement and change in health insurance and was concerned a new provider would not support me in my journey with GLP 1. Not only did the new doctor know a lot about them, she was enthusiastic about my health improvements and weight loss. She is hopeful a shift will happen for more coverage and for more health issues the medicine will address. I found a collaborator!
I’m wondering if someone who has responded very well week after week- losing every week- losing over 30% of their body weight- no stalls -no plateaus would be considered someone who definitely has a deficit of this hormone in their body? Also, have you come across people on these medication‘s having back pain from being on the medication? Thank you.
Look at The Countess of Shopping (on here). She put out a video 2 days ago citing a study which showed GLP1s can cause joint pain. They might be causing your back pain too. It’s surprising coz I’ve heard many say the weight loss *relieves* their aches & pains. Everyone reacts to these meds differently 🤷🏽♀️
Good Afternoon and thank you for your expertise. What constitutes a "non-responder" and if someone is a "non-responder" what would be your advice for next steps?
