Yeah, console players always get the shorter end for this type of games. But honestly, is to be expected, really. With random generation on the fly and sheer scale of things. This game is probably the most cpu heavy thing they ever tried and they wanted the cinematic graphics too. So not much to sacrifice for performance there.
@@Scratchy1992 It already runs at below 1080P, it's just upscaled to 4K and the performance hit for that isn't that large (in the single digits), if they went any lower it would look awful and you probably wouldn't see any extra performance anyway because you'd instantly be CPU bound.
@@owenjohnson5030 most of those PS5 also doesn't feature an open world with fully scaled planets, huge cities and procedural contents. So it make sense that they strive for stability
it seems like a combination of maybe 10 different landmark games (in some cases, games which failed to achieve what people wanted to see from them, such as No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, aspects of The Old Republic, recent Mass Effect attempts) and just charting a better course through all those ideas. Lot of credit to Todd and that entire team for ostensibly making something that's cohesive and great where others failed
They have always done that, though. He has gone on record and said so in interviews. They have always prioritized world and interactivity on consoles. Because they make simulation-type environments, not ‘stage sets.’ You walk into a room in a BGS game and there are cups and food on the table. You can knock the table over and the food and cups scatter. You can steal the cups and sell them. You can eat the food. Most games, you walk past a table with a meal on it that you can’t touch, it doesn’t do anything, it’s an object glued to a table, and any time you go to that room there’s that same meal glued to the table. You can cast a fireball and that dumb chicken still stays on the table. If you’re a real RPG type player (which they are), that’s less fun than having fully interactive environments. Where you can go into a dungeon, and find a bunch of weird stuff absolutely everywhere to pick up, some of it quite valuable. Cast fireball and watch everything fly across the room. This is what BGS is talking about when saying they prioritize their world over the frame rate. If you don’t like the frame rate, sell your Xbox and buy a real gaming machine. 😉
The game may be CPU-bottlenecked at various points, which is not something that can be fixed via a resolution drop. If that's the case then there could be no feasible solution to hitting 60fps. The engine and systems that Bethesda uses doesn't allow for the sort of performance tuning that Devs like Insomniac can do.
Never thought I'd say this but I'm so relieved to hear all this and know it's got a release date after all the years of waiting for star citizen and finally putting the star citizen era behind me.

Kinda bummed no performance mode on console but am still looking forward to game.
Yeah, console players always get the shorter end for this type of games. But honestly, is to be expected, really. With random generation on the fly and sheer scale of things. This game is probably the most cpu heavy thing they ever tried and they wanted the cinematic graphics too. So not much to sacrifice for performance there.
Resolution could easily be sacrificed, id honestly rather play a game at 1080p 60fps than 4k 30fps
@@Scratchy1992 It already runs at below 1080P, it's just upscaled to 4K and the performance hit for that isn't that large (in the single digits), if they went any lower it would look awful and you probably wouldn't see any extra performance anyway because you'd instantly be CPU bound.
@@Scratchy1992its bot only resolution that needs to be sacrificed, far from it...

This was the last reason to own an xsx. 30fps is a deal breaker for me.

The presentation of Starfield was incredible. It created a lot of hype for this game.
it seems like a combination of maybe 10 different landmark games (in some cases, games which failed to achieve what people wanted to see from them, such as No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, aspects of The Old Republic, recent Mass Effect attempts) and just charting a better course through all those ideas. Lot of credit to Todd and that entire team for ostensibly making something that's cohesive and great where others failed
Todd Howard will be the final boss in ES6
Why not 1440p or even 1080p at 60 on the series X, seems like Bethesda prioritized fidelity over performance.
Just a little surprised there isn’t a “performance mode” like there is with Spider-Man and so many other games. Maybe some patch later …
@@idhindsight yea I’m thinking we can see a performance mode update down the line
