Until i started watching food bloggers like you, i never knew there was an island called Taiwan. I have learnt a lot of their history, through blogs like yours. Thank you.
It always amaze me that anytime anyone says something good about Taiwan, there's going to be some pinkies jump out immediately to show how they are hurt by someone stating a fact. BTW, Chiayi is high on my Taiwanese food league table, for its very affordable and delicious foods. Hope to see more of your video in the future.
I live in Japan, but my son goes to university in Taiwan, so I always enjoy watching this video. All of them look delicious. I want to go to Taiwan too.
I was born in Chiayi and when I last visited Taiwan I remember the food was so delicious in Chiayi. We found these mom and pop vendors all over Chiayi serving their specialties. Can’t wait to go back!
Calling all foodies! If there's one destination that's calling the name of every food lover out there, it's Taiwan. This country is home to some of the world's most unique street food, with plenty of markets, mom-and-pop shops, and vendors to keep a traveler busy (and fed) for quite some time. While Taipei is home to some of the best street food in Taiwan, its delicious dishes can be found throughout the entire country. Thankfully, the budget needed for food in Taiwan is super affordable compared to many other countries. Happy street foods tour! Cheers, Domenico.
I lived in 嘉義 30 years ago. I loved it there! Great to see that the traditional foods are still available. Thank you so much for making this video! It's fun for me to reminisce.

Amazing! Thanks for the video. I have heard so many good things about Taiwan. Small but the most democratic country in Asia. Definitely a hidden gem of Asia!
Your appreciation, love, respect for culture & food is absolutely beautiful to watch and share in with you as we watch you travel the world enjoying new things and immersing yourself in every country you visit. I hope you never change that wonderful part about you, it’s what makes you super special Luke ❤ keep up the great work! Lots of love from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
The pancake, i would say it's the best in Taiwan and the taste is unforgettable to me wherever i am. Every turkey rice shop has its own flavour and lovers which deserves a try when visiting Chiayi. Thanks Luke for taking me back to my hometown with your video, LOVE it so much!
Hello Luke i am so glad to see u doing well. Wow! Taiwan chiayi food look really delicious. Thank u so much for sharing with us your wonderful dining experience there in chiayi 👍 i am always waiting patiently for a new video
@@LukeMartin i watched your the other video that u introduced your new girlfriend call mink right?. i wish u all the best. hope u will walk down the aisle someday with her.
I am from Chiayi City, Taiwan😊 Thank you for introducing the food culture of Chiayi City, Taiwan😁 Chiayi City has a lot of local specialty snacks, and they are cheaper and delicious than Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and the six major cities in Taiwan.😉 There are beautiful Alishan and Fenqi Lake train lunch and scenery, welcome to visit Chiayi City, Taiwan I hope there is a food culture that makes you feel the humane and simple food culture of Chiayi City, Taiwan😊
it's great to see you back in taiwan, i can't wait to visit in a few months. hope you make taiwan your retirement home in the future, love to have a permanent series.
Hi Luke I am new to your Chanel I just started watching your videos yesterday I am hooked your an awesome amazing person thank you for showing us around and all the different foods you have tried ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Loving all your recent videos on Taiwan! D'you think you could include the names or addresses of the places you visit in the description? I know you used to do it in older videos but noticed it's missing in this one :) It would be great to bookmark these for when we make our own travel plans to Taiwan!
Agree Luke, that spongy bread looks exactly like our Martabak manis, I wonder if it's also taste the same, especially the salty / savory one Loving this episode with various options of food, they all look so good Greetings from indonesia
In Mexico they make something called a ponche. I guess it would be similar to your almond tea with an egg. My mother made a version of this using hot milk, a banana, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a raw egg thrown into the blender.
my best bro luke & Logan back you both are looking handsome thank you for your huge respect against cpec friendship countries lot of love from your best bro viki 💙
Luke! I finally did my Road Trip I told you about, and I try to create food vlog contents out of it too, thanks to you! I just uploaded 2 episodes of it on my channel. Thank you man, your trips are such an inspiration.
In Singapore, the You Tiao is for breakfast and dipped in coffee. The pancake-looking food @ 12.26 is called Ban Jang Kueh (Ban Jiang Kueh or Ban Chang Kueh) in Singapore (triangular shape) and goes way back to the 1980s, although it has become rarer to find authentic stalls now. The clam-shape style is the newer version. @16.09, for rice, Taiwanese/Chinese use spoon (not chopsticks) because this is not Japanese sticky rice. The chopsticks is for picking up the food from the plates. If using chopsticks for this rice, it will be shoveling method: put your mouth to the rim of the bowl and push the rice into your mouth without spilling.
Hey Luke bro hows it going! Watching these old vids wondering if you could throw some advice. Where do you recommend for super local Taiwanese vibe, you know cheap mom n pop food, friendly people all the good stuff?
Almond tea is already healthy, and it feels more nutritious with egg yolks! Carambola/ Star fruit ice is really special, I haven't seen it in other countries! That pancake is really delicious, it's really similar to that one you ate in Indonesia! Turkey Rice is a famous product in Chiayi and can be found everywhere now! Great to watch you back in your favorite city and eat your favorite food! You did a really great job again, thanks a lot for sharing!👍😄👏 杏仁茶本來就養生,加上蛋黃感覺更營養;楊桃汁真的很特別,還沒在其他國家看過; 那個煎餅真的好吃,與印尼的確實很類似;火雞飯是嘉義名產,現在已能在各地找到!
i took a bus ride through Chiayi and it looked so cute and homey but we had to go to a destination outside and didn't stop. i 've been wanting to go back for ages.
6:14 Others have probably already commented, but the white stuff they are using here isn't diaphragm. This is caul fat which encases the digestive organs of some animals. I would guess that this is from pigs, but sheep and cows can also provide caul fat. As it comes from the animal caul fat is yellow and has a foul smell. Soaking in water with lemon juice or white vinegar lightens the caul fat and helps remove the stink.
I think the only thing I wanted to try is the fried crispy roll. The pancake like sweet maybe good too. But the others are kinda underwhelming. I guess it isn't visually appealing. But I do know that the turkey rice bowl is good especially when you are hungry.
Let me guess perlamono u never tried Taiwanese food and u talk like u did and u think u know what u r talking about. The guy that made this video Luke and all the people that posted have tried Taiwanese food and know what they r talking about. U don't know what u r talking about.

martabak taiwan!! look much healthier hahaha
How to know you ordering superb food:
- Old restaurant
- Sold by old uncle/aunty
- Lots of local ordering their food
@8:39 "It feels like time stopped here hundreds of years ago and things have not changed"...he says as two motor bikes speed by.
