I first saw this in 1984 with the love of my life. It brings back so many memories and feelings of a time so long ago. A brilliant teen love story with a not so happy ending as life can be.
I never ever thought I would see this again. I remember it as a young lad and only remember the Isle of Wight scenes and never knew what happened later on. For years I wondered and tried to get this on dvd, but thanks to you I finally caught up with it and seen what happened to Pete and Annika. Thanks and would love to have this on dvd. Brilliant programme.
I kind of wish that there was an alternate ending where Pete realizes that he doesn't want to lose Annika and chooses a different path. He stays and knuckles down with the job, gets a small flat and takes a language class in the evening. Annika would be able to study, go to university and become a doctor. Very self indulgent on my part and I have to admit that with a happy ending the series may not have stood the test of time. 36 years after first seeing the series and my emotions are still being impacted by it!
SPOILER ALERT: When I first watched this, nearly forty years ago (!!!), after drying my eyes, I decided there was a clue in Pete's letter. "... to stand any chance of keeping you I have to sort myself out ..." Back in London he gets a lowly but steady job as an office junior (tea boy) for a large company and goes to evening classes to learn Swedish. He works hard and is liked by everybody and gets promoted. One evening after work they are all going to the pub, but he can't as he has his Swedish lesson. The guys make fun of him, but the next day someone asks why it is so important to him. He explains and together they develop a plan. The company has an office in Sweden, so he needs a required skill and they will sponsor him for a visa. The department is introducing personal computers, which he finds he has an aptitude for, so he takes extra evening classes. After a year or so, he is working in the IT department and an opportunity comes up in the Sweden office. He is unsure if he should take it, because over time the frequency of his letters and calls to Annika has dropped. Not because they don't love each other, but it makes them sad they are not together. The other problem is the office is in Gothenburg, not Stockholm. Out of the blue, Torbjorn contacts him to invite him to his wedding. (He and Pia finally managed it, but now she is pregnant!) Annika is obviously the bridesmaid and is excited to see Pete again. They realise they were still meant to be together. Annika is also excited as she is about to start university, in Gothenburg...
@@daviddigby5122 great next step on the journey- love it!! I'm glad that I'm not the only one who was so profoundly impacted by this short series. I've written to 3 of the cast and received replies from each- they are amazed that at this piece of work is still being discussed and commented on all these years later.
Remember it from 84. Apart from Jesse Birdsall & Vas Blackwood, everyone else vanished into obscurity. Don't know if they can get away with underage sex and calling someone the "N" word nowadays! That part, great little drama, brought tears to my eyes again, 30 years on!
Thank you NegativeApproach79 you are a legend. I was hunting for this brilliant cult TV drama on You Tube for years. This show like this wouldn't look out of place nowadays on BBC4 Great acting from Jesse Birdsall ,Christine Rigner and Vas Blackwood.
This really struck a cord! My Isabelle is the best thing that ever happened to me. We travel to be together, but I’m Leaving Bournemouth to live in Stockholm with her. Wow!
As a 56 year old man, watching annika has taken me straight back to 1984, the best years of my life...thx for the chance to remember😊

That was a beautiful drama, you just don't see stuff like this on TV now
Brilliant series back in the day we all wish we could do it❤

Predictable
Sorry, but I’d class that as a happy ending. She dodged a bullet with that tosser!😂

I was really touched by this drama when it was on tv all those years ago, thanks so much for the download!
I was always in a bad place when I watched Anneka, then as now.

I'm in Belgrade, I decided I want a foreign gf too, due to this 😂
Beautiful series this, I've asked loads of people, nobody remembers it. I wanted a foreign gf 😂. My partner is Serbian, we live in Belgrade.
I remember being absolutely horrified by the site of Per's bloody face on the stretcher. I was only eight though.
Always remember Annikas brown jacket !

It was definitely on Channel 4 after the watershed maybe 10pm and it was the year 1984..
Sunday night i think
classic 3 part series havent seen it since it was on c4 back in 1982.
It was 1984
Filmed 1983, broadcast 1984.
Hang did that lad grow up to become the arrogant businessman on Eldorado?
Annika's mum was a honey..... Was only 17 then.... Aaaah......and a fantastic line in knitwear....
Lame ending but enjoyable, especially when I 1st saw this as a teenager (just).
This wasn't on Channel 4, it was ITV. The clue's in the titles that it was a Central production.
Porque ya no subes videos
1984, me thinks not 82.
1984 broadcast, may have been filmed in 83.
Holiday romances, eh?
Did anyone else notice the red saab with English licence plates drive past at 7:13?
Yes - I saw it.
Deffo C4 in 84.
