Ed O'Neill was a serious dramatic movie actor, before "Al Bundy". The producers had seen dozens of actors and no one was working out. One guy on the team had suggested Ed a couple of times, but no one could see him in the role, finally after they had seen, literally, everyone else they asked him to come in and read. They said within a matter of seconds they knew they had found their "Al Bundy".
@@fluffylittlebear I thought it was during. Either during or before because one episode they go to the movie store and he picks it up and Peggy says something about it.
There's a clip of him on Rich Eisen's show where he said everyone was trying to be like Jackie Gleason and he read it and thought the character was like an uncle of his who was just resigned to everything and thats how he played it in the audition.
Al and I went to school together and used to "Cruise" up and down Market st every friday night where we grew up in Youngstown, Ohio. We still chat once in a while on Messenger, reminiscing about the old days. Most people thought I was the big crack-up because he had a very dry (but witty) attitude. Miss those days.
Ed O'Neil, who plays Al, was also the star of Modern Family which just ended in 2020 after 11 hugely successful seasons. He married up in that show, having Sofia Vergara playing his wife! The "Best Gloria and Jay Moments" might be a worthy compilation...although very different than Married with Children for sure.
This comment👍🏼👍🏼! As much as I love Al Bundy, he was still brilliant decades later in Modern Family. I feel lucky to have observed him as a child back in the MWC days, all the way forward to the Modern Family days. He's a Boss.
@Лев Лагутов nope. They were what's referred to as "comic relief", secondary, supporting roles. Phil and Claire were arguably as important or relevant as those guys. But Ed O'Neill had more of a resume than all the others combined.
@Лев Лагутов and that is why I never watched it. I am tired of politics being shoved down my throat all because I want to watch TV or go to the movies.
Actually, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he didn't really play, he tried out but was cut from training camp. He had to compete with guys like, ''Mean Joe'' Greene and L.C. Greenwood for a spot on the roster.
7:38 Nope, he didn't get away with it. Judge ruled guilty. But, Al figured he was already gonna be forced to pay the thief who broke into his house, he went ahead and decked him again right there in court. Then he sued the thief for breaking his hand on his face, and everything evened out.
Actually, there were like 4 seasons that followed the England trilogy. I'm not trying to be a smart**. I just spent the early part of the pandemic binging this show so it's fresh in my mind:) lol Still, you're right. Solid episodes. Some great British actors are featured as well. On board with your recommendation.
Ed O'Neil played Relish, The Troll King one of my favourite shows ever: The 10th Kingdom. And it always amazes me how I can totally forget that he's Al Bundy. The acting and the make-up are so good and even though he plays a villain, I still can't help sympathizing with him in the end and I always wish I could see more of his character in the series.
Glad to hear you guys like Al Bundy. Thanks for watching it. Really whole episodes have to be watched to fully appreciate the humor for a particular skit. I grew to love the show after it stopped taking itself so seriously and started lampooning itself. I still quote lines from the show and am thinking about reinstalling a Al Bundy desktop for my computer.
Ed O'Neill signed with the Pittsburg Steelers in 1969 as a Defensive lineman but was cut he had to compete against future HOF "Mean" Joe Greene and All Pro L.C. Greenwood. O'Neill is great playing a Al Bundy type in the movie "Dutch" and of course as Jay in "Modern Family".
Another one of your best (at least one of my favorites). Something about the Al Bundy clips is just relaxing, easy going humor. Many thanks, Danny Oregon
That court speech caused him to lose actually, he ended up punching the dude again saying he might as well double it. But in conclusion he sued the burgler for hurting his hand on his face.

When I was a kid and started getting out of hand. My parents would ask me if I wanted to go to a board meeting. Which meant the paddle meeting my ass. I went to a few. But at 46yrs old can look back and say I was warned and pressed my luck. Lol
Ed O’Neil’s a wonderful character actor. I hope he got paid well for being Al Bundy because being so closely identified with that character had to have hurt his career.
6:59 Shocked to see former heavyweight boxer Randall "Tex" Cobb as the victim of Al's beating here. Cobb actually looks like he fared better here than in the brutal beating he took from former champ Larry Holmes (which made many commentators call for an end to boxing). Cobb famously had the cartilage from his nose removed so it wouldn't get broken so easily in the ring.
Guy was faking it. He was a burglar, broke into the house, Al stopped him (or he injured himself, can't remember), anyways he ends up suing Al for excessive violence, dressed up like he was beaten to a pulp, even though he was in the act of robbing the house. Based on a real life story back then.
Since im only in my 30s, i didnt remember him as a boxer. I always remembered him as the guy from Ace Ventura, when Ace stole his little dog then got his windows broken lol
Funny side story the bandage guy that Al beat up is Randall Texx Cobb , former heavyweight kickboxing champ and one time Boxing contender, went 15 rounds with Larry Holmes..
Awesome reaction guys imma go look them over and I think this streaming on peacock I don't know if they have that over there but might have to start watching everything from the beginning to the end Married with Children and the Simpson is the Pinnacle of any average American if you're born in the 80s
Good reaction video, Kudos. One note, the quip about England was a reference to the 1700's English Politicians who wanted to control this land and its people. Not about modern day England. it's a pretty damn serious show in the first season or so, yeah it's funny and outrageous but it's very real, it's funny from the very first episode though, well it had to be because Fox was brand new at the time, it had to prove itself and make noise to be heard
Every time we talk about the history of American culture, we have to bring up defeating the English. It's the origin of America, we're the only country I'm aware of with a birthday. So a slight dig at the English when discussing it is unfortunately sort of obligatory.
When the Bundys visit London, Al goes on a rant and says the one thing we and they (UK) have in common - - - hating the French!! LOL!!

0:43 Dave darling your smile could light up a stadium. Never lose that. 😘
7:45 yes, perhaps in sitcom world. However, in "Married with Children" world, Al almost never wins.
Most sitcoms never have them win. Rule number 1 of (old) television, at the end of the episode everything is back to normal.
That's good tho, don't whant that Bundy Luck to hit.

Al Bundy is what the world needs now.
Al Bundy and George Carlin.
It was the early '90s and we didn't have internet everybody was going by word of mouth /TV and newspaper we didn't know no better lol I miss the 90s
Ed O'Neill was in one of the first episodes of Miami Vice where he played a drug dealer of some sort. it was the second episode of the first season.

One of the best shows ever.
He's not a comedian. But he is quite the actor and a blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Ed O'Neil actually played in the N.F.L for the Detroit Lions. He is always gonna be Al Bundy to me too. I loved his character.

Al Bundy is a legendary character
That court speech caused him to lose actually, he ended up punching the dude again saying he might as well double it. But in conclusion he sued the burgler for hurting his hand on his face.
You guys should watch the two-parter episode where the Bundys visit England.
oh god, no. We'll have to listen to dave getting offended over any slight dig on England
yes, sometimes a dig is more of a light troweling
The judge immediately said guilty so Al punched him again and sued the guy for breaking his hand with his face.
That last scene was when Al went to congress to get his favourite show 'Psycho Dad' back on TV lol. He failed.

The episodes where Al and his family go to England is classic. He digs on the French there.
I watched this show faithfully back in the late 80s and early 90s. AL is my hero! Lol
