  • (WATCH THE LAST FEW MINS TO SEE THE BEST ART! I improved lots between the start of Year 10 and end of Year 11 hehe)
    Hi everyone!!
    As part of the GCSE videos I'm adding a tour of my very own GCSE sketchbooks. I scored 96% in my GCSEs (we were given the transcripts) and I want to share with you everything I did in both my sketchbooks and final pieces to secure a top grade.
    Any questions let me know! Good luck to all of you with exams next month :)
    Louisa x

      Hi Niamh - that's so kind of you, thank you so much! Art GCSE was one of my favourites :) I think a good camera is always helpful, either on a relatively new phone (2 lenses>1) or on a digital camera if you have access to either of those - you could always ask to borrow a friend's if possible! And I'd say make sure lighting is positioned BEHIND you as it really messes with the exposure if it's coming directly into the lens. Side on light will cast strange shadows, so lighting coming from behind is always best :) Hope that helps and good luck!! x

    Going into year 11 in 3 weeks and I really need to crack down on what I’m doing. My teacher absolutely adores my work but I’m realising now I should have bought an A3 sketchbook and not stuck with the A4 I was given because I do so much my book is too thick and I can’t bring it anywhere. I also haven’t done any of my final pieces but I’m starting tomorrow! I just wish I wasn’t such a procrastinator. I’m also realising I’ve done absolutely nothing to show how I’ve gotten to my final pieces but I will add them in the back of my book to at least show how I’ve gotten there. I’m predicted an A* but I want it to stick.

      Tip: get a folder
      You can do A3 pieces outside your book just make sure you have your name on them and make sure to keep them safe

    How much work for the themes is necessary? I am looking back at my YR10 sketchbook and I think I hardly have enough photos or pages for each section. We did three in YR10 and i have around 14, 14 and 20 faces of a page for each section with around 3 drawings on them. My first page however is bad drawings that took only a minute or so to make. I feel like I haven't got enough

    • @life_of_lou

      Hey so sorry for not seeing your comment until now! I've just gone back to my old videos to check comments - hope it's not too late for my reply, though I have a feeling GCSE art submission is around now... Thankfully I think it sounds like you've got plenty! Three projects in Year 10 alone is certainly a lot of work, and whilst my sections might have each been longer, I did 3 projects across both years 10 and 11 - so had twice the time per section! Even 'quick' or 'rushed' work is okay to include - Art GCSE examiners are far more interested in the process than what you've produced from it. As long as you can explain what you did and how/why, you'll be absolutely fine :) Good luck with any of your remaining exams! xx

    2:13 how do you get that background on the mushroom page?

    • @life_of_lou
      @life_of_lou  Год назад +1

      Hiya! So I painted the pages in a pale brown watercolour wash, and then I splattered it with grey watercolour by getting loads of the paint on the brush and then whacking the brush handle with my hand to flick the grey paint onto the paper. The mushrooms were made on a separate page which I then cut into squares and stuck over the top of the background :) Hope that helps!

    Hello lovely work. Your finale art work is done at school or you can do it at home.

    • @life_of_lou
      @life_of_lou  Год назад +2

      hiya! thank you SO much for a lovely comment :) I had to do my final big artworks (the ones on canvas) in an exam environment at school - so in silent/quiet conditions over 10 hours split into two days of 5 hours per day. But then my other artwork in the sketchbooks was all done either in lesson time within the classroom at school OR in my own time at home. We can spend as much or as little time on our sketchbooks as we like, but obviously the more time spent the more likely you are to produce better art and get a higher grade! :) Good luck!

    When writing about your art, did you talk about meaning or just about the process and the why?

    • @life_of_lou
      @life_of_lou  2 года назад +3

      Hiya! So I wrote about both - the meaning stuff was largely about what I wanted each piece to convey. So for example, with the final piece for my natural vs man-made project (the big wall with the plants bursting through) I wrote about how I wanted it to convey nature always breaking through the confinements and restrictions that man places on it, and how plants are resilient to us even in dark times. The process things were about the techniques I would use to get the messages across. If I wanted to portray the man-made elements as 'harsh' I might use darker colours in acrylic for a punchier look, vs using watercolour for the plants to give a softer feel. Hope that helps! :)
