One summer night a group of us carried our telescopes, boom box, and beer cooler up to the top of a hill behind my friend's house. We were way the fuck out in the boonies in central Vermont. When the scopes were set up, we all sat down and started pounding down the beer and firing up reefers. The first tape we put in was Nilsson/Shmilsson. Every time i hear this song, it reminds me of that wild outing. One of our group, who was crazy as hyena, peered through his chincey 90mm scope and cried out, "I can see a Moon Rover!" What a night.
Used to listen to this cruising’ in my Chevelle, but must say, for greatest psychedelia, Hendrix’ studio version of Voodoo Child (Slight Return) or possibly “In A Gadda Da Vida” hold that distinction.
Nilsson was supposedly not satisfied with the "scary movie" attempt. But seeing Keith Moon tearing up his drums - the project balanced out (in my opinion.)
I lov the all around beat down on this track & Harry’s vocal cord must’ve been shot after this take. I knew it was an Amazon tune but didn’t know this was such an all star cast of musicians. No fn wonder…helllooo, Thx
Oh my gosh. I just first heard this when I was watching “Goodfellas”. What an awesome song! Especially to find out that it was Harry Nilsson and Keith Moon - and Peter Frampton-good God!
Greatest rock song ever. Has it all. Amazing vocals. Amazing guitar. Amazing Bass. Amazing keyboards. And, Amazing drums. The only thing missing is the amazing drum solo by Jim Gordon who now, sadly, sits in a penitentiary in CA for murdering his mother in a schizophrenic rage. RIP Harry.
I'd forgotten how great a song this is until it was demonstrated on Rock Hard Riffs, one of the best sites on RUclips and the best to learn how to play guitar.
The skull/bony structure with the baby snakes peering out is all encompassing: amazing. You can see Harry looking down on them to see if they're ok and/or doing their thing. I'm enthralled as to how this came about - to be in this video. The little snakes look like they're curious to come out, but also aware of the loud music which doesn't entirely deter them. Awesome account all around!
I remember one night, Me, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon, and Ringo took out picnic baskets and ate cucumber sandwiches under a full moon in Malibu Canyon... Actually NO - I can't remember a Goddamn thing about that night, other than growing handcuffs suddenly........
Paul McCartney should have done concerts just using Harry's stuff...... can you imagine McCartney on this song?? PS....I saw this movie at the Seekonk Twin Drive-In a million years ago. That's in Seekonk, Massachusetts.

Gotta be the most under-appreciated song in rock history 😢😢😢😢
"I had to pick up my brother Mikey from the hospital, drop off the guns at Jimmy's..."
😂😂😂
Friggin’ fantastic song. I played this incessantly back in the day, dancing like crazy and screaming the lyrics.
Its funk - blues at its very best

WoW, what an experience and story to boot 🥾
(sings) "Mooon rover.."
This song, so far ahead of its time and also timeless.
Absolutely.
this song blows the wigs off people when you play it on the jukebox
Love that down tune bass then tunes up.gold
This is the Son of Dracula movie produced by Ringo. It’s why you see all the musicians. Friends of Ringo not the actual band of this recording.
Right on again!
So many folks dont know this song even exists. In the panteon of Rock mega songs...this one should be mentioned
I have never once heard this song on the radio. I agree with you
@@emwilson3764 However, it's not good advice
I remember hearing this on the cool FM station in Orlando. Frequently. The long version is definitely the best
Greatest psychedelic rock song ever !!!!
How about, Time has come today by the Chambers Brothers? or nah.
Truth song.
@@brian70Cuda it's okay
Not sure. Planet Caravan is pretty damn good.
Used to listen to this cruising’ in my Chevelle, but must say, for greatest psychedelia, Hendrix’ studio version of Voodoo Child (Slight Return) or possibly “In A Gadda Da Vida” hold that distinction.
To say this is intense would be a great understatement. It's what ever comes after INTENSE.
He gets right down to the gut of you!
Incredible or extraordinary?
Nilsson was supposedly not satisfied with the "scary movie" attempt. But seeing Keith Moon tearing up his drums - the project balanced out (in my opinion.)
Moonie!
Harry Nilsson, John Bonham, Peter Frampton, Ricki Farr, Bobby Key, Keith Moon, Jim Price, and Klaus Voormann.
Most of whom were not on the recording.
@@tcschenks But who were at the bar.

Keith Moon on drums , baby !!!!
I remember this sing from back in the day. I was a bit too young to fully appreciate how great this song truly is. AND THAT BASS THOUGH!!😱😱😎
That badass base groove!!!!
I didn’t know Keith Moon was in the video, Jim Gordon plays on the song. Both ended their careers way to soon
Oh my gosh. I just first heard this when I was watching “Goodfellas”. What an awesome song! Especially to find out that it was Harry Nilsson and Keith Moon - and Peter Frampton-good God!
Frampton and Moon were in the lip synch video, not the original recording.
Jim Gordon is on the drums.
@@BarstoolBlues33 That's correct - Jim Gordon plays drums on the studio track, and does a fantastic solo.
might as well mention Leon Russell.
Bought the single in 1973. What a band. Awesome !
Never knew keith moon was on this, wow even better. Great "im fkn wasted and having a great time
" tune
He’s in the video, but Jim Gordon is on the recording. I would love to hear Keith’s take on it though
I hate logging in,..but thank God someone saved this !!,..very good stuff !!

That's a damn shame!!!
No need to bring up that sad story. Not necessary. 😡
So true
I'd forgotten how great a song this is until it was demonstrated on Rock Hard Riffs, one of the best sites on RUclips and the best to learn how to play guitar.
Watch Goodfellas.
The sneeze cheese was definitely flowin the night of this shoot boy...

Excellent drum beat.
Wasn’t that Keith Moon -laying drums?
Miming to Jim Gordon

Just awesome!!
High school daze gone by ...so cool !!!❤❤❤❤❤
That groove
HEARD FOR THE FIRST TIME AROUND 1975 ON WAKY RADIO IN LOUISVILLE KY AND THOUGHT IT WAS THE COOLEST SOUNDING SONG EVER.
Perhaps the greatest psychedelic song ever conceived 😅😅😅😅
It took me a LONG time to find this, and I'm glad I did.
Drummer is Awesome!
What a great song! Thx for the the clear audio/visual video
The first time I heard this, I thought it was the Devil himself singing.... outstanding madness

For anyone paying attention... that’s Keith Moon of the Who playing the drums.
This is just a video. Jim Gordon was the drummer.

Imagine this but in a muppet parody
Whoah, Keith Moon on drums . . . who knew.
That's Keith in the vid but, Jim Gordon on the track. Still in prison for matricide.
What a shame time eleventeen. Crazy amazing musician. Keith too for that matter!
John Long yeah, that blows my mind, with a song that already blows my mind.
Of course. Keith looks like he might have knocked a tooth out. Probs fighting a John Bonham over a bottle of Wild Turkey.
I think Gordon had schizophrenia.
bass solo is pure sex with my speakers.
This is a unique song. I really don't recall anything else quite like it, ever. It can get a bit wearing to listen to it loud more than 2 or 3 times.
..What No John Entwhistle on Bass.??..Herbie Flowers was the Guy that Awesome BASS Playing.!
Thanks for personnel bass player
I keep telling Boots Electric (Jesse) EODM that they should do this song. They would nail this song
Keith Moon on drums
isnt that Keith Moon on drums?
You wanna see helicopters I'll show you helicopters!
Bravo
Nice.
My comment is, wow. Very fn cool
What’s the John Lennon connection?
I always thought this was the clash.
Both Moon and Bonham on drums.
Jam myrick
Neither Moon nor Bonham (nor Ringo) on drums. It's Jim Gordon drumming on this track.
Moon and bonham in the video, not on original audio recording.
Jim Gordon
Jim Gordon. The greatest ever.
@@marywealth6475 correct, and Gordon does a helluva solo as well.
What happened to the rest of the song?
Single edit of the song, I'm guessing? Yeah, they cut off the best part...

With Lennon backing it up? That's a spicy gumbo
Looks like Jim Price, maybe, on second keyboards.
looks more exactly like Leon Russell

Keith Moon NEVER played without this kind of intensity.
Keith Moon didn’t play on the recording,
Aish Ha Torah, Peasach 5781

This song (in part) is on the international trailer, for the movie “Front Runner,” and I was trying to find the complete song.
