Normally, I'd agree, but we're not talking switch rings and twisting leaps. The americans literally fucked up double spins and cat leaps, which anyone on the street can do.
……and let’s not forget, this is exactly what they train for from the age of about 6, and before school, after school, and at the weekends! That’s the same as saying not to have a go at a professional footballer who can’t do a decent pass to another player - they are trained, and are paid a hell of a lot of money, to be able to do such things! The USA always think they’re the best at gymnastics and are the team to beat! (As I once heard Terin Humphrey say in an interview). Well, if that’s the case, they wouldn’t have been beaten! They need to get over themselves a bit! I’m not saying they aren’t great - they are! But so are other teams - Romania, China, Russia…… The reality here is that Carly Patterson wasn’t up to scratch on most of her routines, and the other team mates could have done better too!
Carly was glamourised and said to be the star of this games but she couldn’t have been any less boring and cookie cutter if she tried. She had a double Arabian dismount on beam and that’s it. The floor routine is what you’d expect to see from the GBR team around this time.
Even if you find her to be "boring", she was extremely consistent in almost every competition up to the games and trials. That really the only time she started to slip. I'm not a fan of her dancing, but she had the difficulty and could definitely tumble plus she was the only one doing a double Arabian off beam AND she stuck it. Khorkina was considered to be the star of these games too and any athlete that performs well is gonna have the spotlight
No offense to Carly, but that music and her dancing...ugh. Tbf, this was a bit of a dry Olympics in terms of artistic floor routines. Her execution and tumbling was strong though!
@Hoolygan4ever Yeah I figured out after while that this was very soon before the new scoring system. A 9.8 routine would be something like a 5 D.o.D routine vs a (10) 6.5 today. Thanks for the reply!
@MeghanmanX4 Well she did have that Achilies, maybe her leg was hurting her enough they didn't wanna chance her getting hurt on beam and while relaxing it it felt good enough to do floor without her getting injured.
@MeghanmanX4 : good hypothesis but to replace her with a 9.8 routine? I don't understand why all the routines aren't of 10 start value. It seems unlogical to me.
It was really hard during this code of points to start from a 10 on floor. Sofronie won the silver on floor in Athens with a 9.9 SV.... there were not a lot of opportunities for connection bonus.... look at some of the passes that had to be done for connection value - 2.5 to front layout, double layout punch front, whip triple twist...and the judges were really strict on the jump and leap combinations.... I really, really dislike this code of points for a lot of reasons, not the least of which being floor exercise..
I 100% agree, vise should've been on the team as well, the team didn't need both mo, and Anna the team didn't need both McCool and terin I am sorry Tasia should have been on the team and so should have Hollie
+MaKayla Clark-Sol And Tasha was on the 2000 olympic team and the only medal they brought home was the Bronze in the team final which they got only because the Chinese had someone on their team who wasn't the appropriate age to compete at an olympic games
If things had gone more according to plan, Schwikert, Memmel/Vice, Sacramone and others all could have been on the team. The problem was, due to various reasons, the numbers simply didnt support it. Tasha underperformed st nats and trials, way too inconsistent... We will never know what Chellsie was capable of because of her injuries.. Vise didnt have the scores at trials to justify putting her on... if this team had performed to their capability that night, they could have beaten Romania.
I honestly feel Kourtney hurt her ankle a little in that spin. Otherwise, there’s no fucking excuse to do a simple double turn and not be able to connect it. And before you ask, yes, I could do it.
@supergiRafe It's simple actually. Who do you admire most, a guy who carries a 50 pound weight for 10 miles or a guy that carries a 500 pounds weight for 10 miles, even if he drops it a few times? It's all about the risks they are taking, if every exercise had a 10 start value then all you would see would be some girls rolling over and that would be all
I'm wondering if the reason why we haven't won gold the past 2 Olympics, is that we just haven't found that right mix match of girls. We have good teams and talented woman, but perhaps not the right mix to win gold.
That guy is so rude! Those turns are hard to do especially on a tumble floor like to see him get out out there or up on the beam and do it! Now I think they give the girls more ballet training than they used to. And dude beam is harder if you're hurt obviously cuz even one tenth of a centimeter and boom the floor is much bigger Dumbo, oops insult to cute elephant.
I wish they knew how difficult those 'easy dance moves' really were. I'd love to see Tim do a leap series.
Normally, I'd agree, but we're not talking switch rings and twisting leaps. The americans literally fucked up double spins and cat leaps, which anyone on the street can do.
@@jorgebonilla2234 absolutely agreed.

Even though Courtney Kupets dance is not the best. I still like the way she tumbles and performs.
I'm sorry, but Courtney's Floor choreography scares the crap outta me :( . Especially the crab walk thing *shivers* . All tho I do still love her.
omg... i just can't get over kupet's choreography. lol.
Hey I thought NO ONE kisses Khorkina right judges?
Courtney just puts the pain away and does her job
Team More Love for Mohini Bhardwaj.
please tell me she didn't just crab walk at the olympics. 😬
LOL at the noise from Zamo (or Khorkina) when they hug after Khorkina gets off the podium after her routine!!!
Carly Patterson was a hideous dancer but, she sure could tumble.
Aww seeing Russia so happy for the bronze when 4 yrs. before that, were dissapointed with the silver.
@sboudreaux27 Yeah, that's true 🤣
They're actually happy Romania beating the USA lol
Part 6 is banned by IOC but not part 1-5 & 7-8?
Why is it banned?
For everyone complaining about the commentary, allow me to introduce my dear friend, Mute Button.
Really didn't make sense to keep Courtney out of beam and then put her in for floor with a leg injury. They should've put in Terin..
It was a hip injury and if she'd done her tour jete full on beam she would have damaged it to the point she couldn't do floor.
Exactly.
Carly was glamourised and said to be the star of this games but she couldn’t have been any less boring and cookie cutter if she tried. She had a double Arabian dismount on beam and that’s it. The floor routine is what you’d expect to see from the GBR team around this time.

wholly agree. like props to her hard work but she's the most forgettable Olympic all-around champion.
I think Kupets was taken off beam because maybe she was having trouble hitting a skill and so they didn't want to chance it.
No offense to Carly, but that music and her dancing...ugh. Tbf, this was a bit of a dry Olympics in terms of artistic floor routines. Her execution and tumbling was strong though!
+withlove312 agree, and about Courtney she never dance. Love romanians routines.
Yeah Carly just didn't shine (choreography wise) at these Olympics. Very cheap moves and music.
@Hoolygan4ever Yeah I figured out after while that this was very soon before the new scoring system. A 9.8 routine would be something like a 5 D.o.D routine vs a (10) 6.5 today. Thanks for the reply!

why didnt courtney mcool compete shes my favorite
They pulled her after prelims when she made a few mistakes, she never competed in the team final at all.
Her scores were the lowest on every event so no need for her!
@MeghanmanX4 : good hypothesis but to replace her with a 9.8 routine? I don't understand why all the routines aren't of 10 start value. It seems unlogical to me.

@MeghanmanX4 No she got injured in the training gym moments before :/
Martial decided to send the B team to the Olympics that year. Leaving Swickert Memmel and a few others home
I 100% agree, vise should've been on the team as well, the team didn't need both mo, and Anna the team didn't need both McCool and terin I am sorry Tasia should have been on the team and so should have Hollie
I wouldn't exactly call Terin, Courtney Coupets, Anna, and Carly the B team seeing that each of them brought home individual medals.
+MaKayla Clark-Sol And Tasha was on the 2000 olympic team and the only medal they brought home was the Bronze in the team final which they got only because the Chinese had someone on their team who wasn't the

Vise had back problems and crash at trials. Memmel was off an injury and Schwikert wasn’t focused enough! Mohini and Annia deserved that spot
If things had gone more according to plan, Schwikert, Memmel/Vice, Sacramone and others all could have been on the team. The problem was, due to various reasons, the numbers simply didnt support it. Tasha underperformed st nats and trials, way too inconsistent... We will never know what Chellsie was capable of because of her injuries.. why is part 6 missing
Now for the dramatic portion of the routine: crabwalk!!!!
I honestly feel Kourtney hurt her ankle a little in that spin. Otherwise, there’s no fucking excuse to do a simple double turn and not be able to connect it. And before you ask, yes, I could do it.

Really think both Khorkina and Patterson were very overrated on floor
Patterson was quite great at her landings and landing posture. Khorkina was definitely overrated with her sketchy landings
An interesting cultural moment, the mid 2000s.
I'm wondering if the reason why we haven't won gold the past 2 Olympics, is that we just haven't found that right mix match of girls. We have good teams and talented woman, but perhaps not the right mix to win gold.
This Olympics is kind of dull - the arena and vibe compared with Beijing and London
Kupets' routine is much worse (in choreo) than Patterson's imo
Wish No would've came back in 2000 when the team needed a vaulter and a tumbler
Is anyone else annoyed that they cut it in the middle of a routine?
👏🏻
Ah Courtney horrifying floor routine. Too funny!
Maybe the worst choreography ever, Courtney Kupets.
Omg Americans routines were horrible!
Courtney Kupets floor is amazing, one of my favorite ever, Carly’s choreo was awful, very juvenile, I guess her tumbling and landings made up for it
As she should have. Had no business on that team
erm did you see the Romanians at the Sydney olympics or the atlanta? yikes
I was so happy when Khorkina retired! I was so tired of watching her try to do gymnastics.
Was this one of the worst codes ever, or is it just me
As usual Americans want to win by other mistakes, like Riseman did in 2012
maybe they shouldn't have made mistakes if they wanted to beat Ali 🥴
