I know the trumpet was the main star but can we talk about how amazing this whole band was especially the bass and pianist. This video made me rethink my musical tastes
@@brians9508what do you suggest then? Can we sing about? Or Can we blow our own trumpet about… hmm 🤔 or how about Can we Wonka about… yeah that’s a good one.
I've been a jazz fan for some 60 years. This ranks right up there with the great masters. When I see the musicians at one with their music, I conclude God sends us gifts to savor.
That was exact thought after hearing his first notes. Sounds so rich and mellow. He's exactly what sound I'm aiming to achieve on a cornet when it comes to jazz
The origin Wonka film is my loving husband's favourite movie. Today we went to the see the new Wonka film with our 7 year-old daughter. Found your work here, it is beautifully played. I am a jazz fun, I absolutely love it!
Jonathan, thank you for this beautiful performance. I see so many comparing you with Chris Botti, but as someone from the UK, I would say Till Bronner. Phil in Scotland
This is plain and simple the best jazz I've ever heard. Jonathan Dely you have my full attention...what a tone!!! Wishing you success on your journey. Mr. Botti has a successor!
Dude your tone quality is like super amazing and serenading your one is so full that if I wasn’t to look at the video I would think it’s a flugelhorn 🙌🏾
Listen guys, life is hard, life hurts, but isn't it so beautiful? Even in the darkest hours of our lives? For some weird and mystical reason, I feel like this thing we call souls, are the exact same things we call music. For me atleast, If my soul had a song, I would want this to be it with every ounce in my body!
It doesn’t make sense that I like this song so much. Had no idea that I would love this so much. Wow Jonathan, keep creating. The world needs more beautiful music. Bring us into your world bro!
This is how I aspire to play when I'm older, I'm 15 and have 2 solos for marching band this year, had one last year ad the year before (my first year in high school band), and played taps for my school's Veterans Day and have played multiple solos for districts, and I wasn't to be able to play like this for those. Absolutely beautiful
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable phat mellow tone like Flugelhorn as others have said - but my oh my --- those fluid runs! and then those acidic runs --- how he riffs with the guitar player - absolute sizzle. And I was wondering if there was any firepower to you Jon -- you did not disappoint -- you're like the best of all worlds on that instrument. Yes, I will listen to it again right now! lol
Yvo Herrera probably a super deep mouthpiece like a V cup or something. I play on a 3C for my everything mouthpiece but when I want to play fluffy I’ll use my Schilke 17. Wider and deeper than most mouthpieces
I'm a little late, but there's a whole style of playing called microphone playing, where you play directly into that attached mic you see. Since it's so close there's no need to project and you can get that warm tone while still sounding loud
My autoplay was on and I stumbled into this song while doing something else, and only 7 mins in did I realize that. But at the same time, I felt the music all the way through, without knowing? I don't know, all I know is that this performance is magical.
You know, the orchestral version is quite beautiful, but given a preference, this jazzier, live performance version just feeds my soul. I can listen to this over and over...and over. 🔊🎵❤️
The piano was the most annoying element; partly due to tuning but also just the tinny timbre of that brand. I guess they had to go with who the sponsor was at that showcase.
Jon you ought to put that flick straight on youtube --- it was a phenomenal short! Submit it to Omeleto! Now I'm really rooting for you. For all of us mediocre horn players/musicians that had no choice but to leave the profession to die the slow NYC death spiral to make a living, that film resonates - I'm so happy you did that about-face and returned to your music. So much noise on youtube, no small wonder I can't believe I never heard of you before. Glad you're on my radar now. Congrats on the great career move!
thank you so much for these kind words! Goodbye Jonathan's Soul is currently screening at film festivals nationwide, which means for the time being it must remain "private." very soon, though, the film will become public and live online, which we are very eager for. make sure you subscribe with your email address to jonathandely.com to receive all the latest updates

I agree the band is spectacular! Hope they are on Apple Music.
Straight up, the trumpet is not my favorite part… it’s not even close
@@patrickbyrne9076wow how nice
"can we talk about" ??? who says that?

Goosebumps. I swear it sounds like a flugelhorn. So rich and buttery. You got yourself a new fan!
thank you John

Damn godlike performance from trumpet. I listen to this every time i eat breakfast no lie
Love how Jonathan gets the bass player to relax and settle with his smile and banter. Dresses like pro, is a pro.

I keep coming back to watch this, I've never heard a trumpet sound so much like a Flugel!
It does sound alot like a flugel, sounds very similar to Chris Botti playing, there has to be some well guarded secret to that sound.
@@edstud1 very deep cup mouthpiece? IDK

The Mic position and effects I imagine.

This is gonna sound so weird, but the sound of the trumpet on my ears feels so soft like a makeup brush
im ... blush-ing
Lol
I love that description haha
Nothing like 'feeling' a song ... those guys were feeling it
This is very underrated
Indeed
Props, too, to the editor -- and cameraperson(s)v-- giving props to each musician.
When I hear this it just feels like everything is going to be alright 👍

Jonathan, thank you for this beautiful performance. I see so many comparing you with Chris Botti, but as someone from the UK, I would say Till Bronner. Phil in Scotland
Dear Phil - your comparison to Til means a lot to me as I'm a big fan of his. Best wishes across the pond in the UK! - Jonathan

Jonathan Dely is a musical virtuoso what a beautiful piece! I Love it!
The drummer knows his dynamics and has a great "low volume cook"!!!!!
Almost too smooth!!!!!
Never heard Pure Imagination played like this, it's great!
This is beautiful music, crafted by ALL the musicians. As a drummer, playing kit since 1962, I have to say, that bass player has some sweet chops!!!!!
thank you Gene!
every single person involved in this SNAPPED
This song gives me chills no matter how it’s played or sung, damn!

That’s a good sounding trumpet! Really like the sound of it! Is it a Bach of something else? Great performance brother !! Regards

Ouvindo uma hora dessa Belo Horizonte Brasil😮❤
I played trumpet in middle school, this makes me want to trade my guitars in for one and grow all over again!

That sound was extraordinary…..well done ….but that suit KILLED it.
Quel son ! Magic ….very beautiful sound of trumpet. Bravo 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
What energy this song has, such a forward drive, fantastic. To you all much respect.
that lick at 2:55 is so good. I keep coming to listen to it :)
Bro has some Arturo Sandoval licks. Damn good player.

Drummer, pianist and guitarist👍
Wow! Amazing. I played trumpet through school and the control he had over that powerful instrument is incredible. To make it sound so soft.
Trumpet player here. May be out of the loop but never heard of this star trumpeter, what a tone! And the tastefulness. Flugelhorn sound on a Bb….yea

Never heard anyone playing so smoothly and soft on a regular trumpet…since Chuck Mangionne even playing a Fluegelhorn.

The presence of Chris Botti and the tone of Chuck Mangione
I heard some Arturo in there too. 😳
And Roy Hargrove. The more I listen, the more influences.
This is simply beautiful!! I can listen for hours
Why didn't someone tune the piano before this wonderful gig at NAMM?? Great song by the way. This guy loves playing trumpet!!
First thing I noticed. That Bb is like nails on a chalkboard.
No kidding. It sounds very "tinny"
The piano was the most annoying element; partly due to tuning but also just the tinny timbre of that brand. I guess they had to go with who the sponsor was at that showcase.
Best 7 minutes and 17 seconds of my life spent listening to this beautiful masterpiece of art 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That’s really sweet sound of the trumpet I ever heard❤
Would love to have the trumpet sheet music for this. Totally awesome!!
Just saw his showcase in NYC. He is very special and what a great band! Remember this young man!
