Wow that takes me back, for some reason in Ireland in the 1980s we had LOADS of soaps from Australia, The Sullivan's, Neighbours, Home and Away, Prisoner cell block H. A little part of me will always come from a land down under!
It was the best. Which makes me wonder why a series this popular isn't available widely on DVD. Hard if not impossible to find, even more so outside of Australia.
This was shown in England for about 10 years and had a bit of a following in daytime. ACP never made it to the big time like Neighbours as it was more popular with older people and had fewer characters for teenage viewers. Still nice theme tune, which is what I remember best.
Yes perhaps because many of the over of that era 60s would have been able to connect with its rural settings because they grew up in similar settings whereas Neighbours and Home and Away would have connected better with people who are now middle aged (in their 40s and 50s the former gave us Kylie Minougue Jason Donovan and Natalie Umbrilia among others.
Used to record this for my dad to watch later when he was out now my dad's dead I miss him and it brings back memories of me my mam and dad watching it as a family I could cry when I hear this tune and see this clip itv bring it back
Quality Aussie TV, these days there'd have to be excessive violence, profanity and drug use for it to rate in a family viewing slot I mean look at Home and Away these days.
My parents quite liked this show. Was on during the daytime in. The UK for ages but different regions had it at different times and it was often divided into half hour episodes in England but hour long in Scotland.
I can still remember Esme's voice and her way of saying "Vernon." lol.... Loved the show, the whole cast....sure wish they'd release the entire series to DVD region free.....

The tranquil, comforting mood of 'A country practice' The emotional rollercoaster of 'Sons and Daughters' , The joyful fantasy journey into the past the was 'The Sullivans' .The energetic theme from 'Young Doctors ', a disco funk banger conveying a sense of urgency, 'Home and Away's love duet worthy of Neville&Ronstadt , and the poignant Dylanesque masterpiece that was the outro for 'Prisoner cell block H' ; fantastic one and all. Except Neighbours, however - That was fucking shit.
Still remember watching this with my late nana ITV Regional TV ( then Anglia TV) between the ages of 6 and 8 when it was part of what she watched in the afternoon, for me it was associated with School Holidays as it was finished by the time I got home from school as is was on after the lunchtime circa 2pm. I rotated with either The Waltons, The Sullivans or a UK soap called Take the High Road which was set in the fictional village of Glendarroch in real life village of Luss in Argyll and Bute in the Scottish Highland. . These were followed by either The Young Doctors or Sons and Daughters. After these came Children's television programmes. In between were after local news bulletins and birthday club. Before and after came National news bulletins and a Rainbow a preschool children's programmes and/or Blockbusters which was a quiz programme. In the 1980s time of the lunchtime news bulletin varied between 12:30 or 1:00 while the evening news was between 5:40 and 6:30 with the reginal bulleting either before or after. The afternoon bulletins coincided with the end of primary school and in an error where women retired at 60 an men at 65 might also have served as a time when retired folk had afternoon tea (tea and biscuits/cake). I still remember this the best part of 40 year later perhaps because I was known to sometimes get my late nan a coup of tea for when she woke up from her afternoon nap.
Feel like if this were still running today, that the opening credits would be limited to the title, And the credits would be squeezed with a promo of the next episode....

I remember my mum watching this in the afternoons in the early '90s, I was a little kid so found it boring but the theme tune is very nostalgic

this reminds me of being off school and my nan had it on all the time. the theme tune i think is one of the greatest ever written.

An Aussie soap with less thugs in it than Home and Away.
Home and Away was actually similar at the time. It was until the 2000s when they dealt with Rapists, Stalkers, etc that it changed.
