      You're allowing your human emotions to interfere with whats in the best interest for Spruce, which, doesn't make you a bad person, it actually shows what a big heart you have. Unfortunately, Spruce isn't a human baby & he needs to learn to fall in line with the herd so he can do what's natural for him. 🕊

      And more realistically, since that's your intent: It's nature's practice game in preparation for adult herd, pack, pride, etc. dominance. All animals that must live within groups, even indoor pets, go through to establish pack order. Whenever member(s) change, or young ones are growing up, the pack order is disrupted & challenged for awhile.

      I have to agree. Don't rush the weaning, he will do it on his own. You have pallets so build him a crib feeder. Put his food in there and the big goats can't eat Spruce 's food. You can monitor what he is eating and cut back on one bottle at a time accordingly. I would always feed a bottle the first thing in the morning.

      Normally when a mother weans her babies, it is done over a period of time. Spruce does not have a natural mother so Kyle&Shannon have to perform this substitution of nature for him. If left up to Spruce, he would take a bottle for many months and never learn to drink from a bowl or container. Ask any one who is experienced with animal husbandry, babies in most cases do not wean themselves.

  • @Lwah0812
    @Lwah0812 Год назад +2

    Have you thought about possibly installing a bottle holder and just putting his bottle in it at feeding time? I think that doing that will be very helpful. First you are creating a little distance between you and Spruce and start weaning him from you, he will gradually not see you as the food source. You can start out being right next to it the increase the distance. Also put a bowl with a bit of milk in one side and water in the other, right next to the bottle feeder. Secondly you will be able to get other things done while he is eating. Right now the world revolves around him and this will teach him to be more independent. Set it up in the pen you have for him and just leave him for a while. Of course he will throw a tantrum but all kids do at weaning time.
    You are great goat parents, just land the helicopter, he is growing up and doesn’t need quite as much attention, just give him space.
    Another idea is to maybe get some more electric fencing and put the animals and Herc in it and move it every day or two…I have no idea how expensive it is. The Eddy Family used to do that, it’s a lot of work but it’s easier to clear the land and you don’t have to stand guard. You also ought to get a donkey, goose or llama to help Herc. My favorite of the three would be a donkey…hit up Daniel Arms.
    I absolutely love your channel, it’s one of my favorites. I’ve subscribed to a lot of homesteading channels and don’t watch some of them often because they grow a little “arrogant” and are always promoting whatever product that hits them up which is ok but some are just not affordable for the everyday person.
    You guys are so down to earth and funny without having to try to be, you’re an absolute joy to watch. I am so glad that Chad gave you Spruce so I’ve been watching every video now. 💕

    I don't know about goats, but human babies will slow down on the bottle when they start getting solid food & you introduce a sippy cup. It might be easier if he gets grain along with his milk. And there are some babies that need that bottle for security. You hold him whe you give him a bottle, so you might try holding him & putting a little milk in a smaller bowl. Spruce's little horns are so cute. I just love how he lays his head on Kyle's shoulder..You are his security & where he feels safe & comfortable.

    We used to teach baby calves to drink from a bucket by letting them suck on our fingers and then slowly guiding them into the bucket by putting our hand down into the milk while they were sucking on our fingers.

    The older goats try to gently teach Spruce how to head-butt... goats have great fun with one another acting out the head-butt game, and raring up at one another. :)

    Watching other videos I see their LGD ‘s taking care of ALL the goats. That’s his job. Especially at night. Mojo, Leeske and Kora from Hidden Heights farm sleep almost all day cause they’re monitoring 40 or more goats all night. The dogs dont single out just one goat to watch. They don’t push out any other goat either. I think it’s wise to let the goats determine their own pecking order and eating habits. Herc will then learn to just let them all be and watch them. It’s all interesting and just nature. ❤

    It looks like weegie and spruce have a little bit fish tail going on which grandpa was talking about with his goats too. All it means is they need copper in their diet.

    Spruce is the sweetest, yes definitely getting bigger! I thought it was Mario that was better with Spruce not Louigi? Herc is such a good LGD and so smart too! One of the best things for a stressful tummy or upset tummy is Pumpkin Puree! Best kind of morning! Both Shanon and Spruce will get there! God Bless ❤
