      quando ero giovane come te i contralti cantavano Carmen e i baritoni e i tenori drammatici interpretavano Don José ....

      bodiloto concordo che la voce non sia adatta a don josé, però ha un bellissimo timbro, bel fraseggio e colori... molto musicale, inoltre...no?

      Then they were wrong, because these Opéra Comique roles are clearly NOT written for a contralto and for a dramatic tenor, much less a baritone, even though they can pull them off and excel.

      "TOUT est fini" sarebbe meglio... Il loro francese è perfetto, e non posso dire lo stesso del suo ! Preferisco mille volte un José che ha una voce leggera ma canta la lingua del ruolo con gusto a un Corelli che amazza il francese, sempre urlando.

    beautifully sung but the sense of utter desperation was utterly lacking on both parts. And without that the scene makes no sense.

      @photo161 :: At first, this doesn't seem to be a good idea (of all scenes in opera, they picked this one ; the piano doesn't have the power to convey the magnititude of Bizet's masterful imagination) ; at least they tried something different and they sound fairly good, under the circumstances [the tenor is commendable and the mezzo-soprano holds herself well ...]
