He could CLEARLY just have replaced the bricks in his hotbar to netherack. If he puts it in his hotbar, it doesn't mean hes cheating.

The reason you were not able to craft was because before it was not in your visinity, and in the nether or where ever you were after was in the visinity of you so it deleted it.
