A Whistle Stop tour of Hexham!
We stopped for lunch in Hexham during the IFA Club Northumberland Road Run. We have a quite look around the lovely town.
Starting in Tesco car park, we visit one of the most Northerly Waitrose in England before a look at the attractive railway station. We then walk up to the historic town centre where we have a look at the beautiful abbey which is now the parish church.

You missed the Abbey's saxon crypt (entered from the central aisle of the nave) built in 674 AD of recycled roman stones, some carved, from nearby Corbridge! Was it not open when you were there? It is very similar to the one in Ripon Cathedral in Yorkshire, not least because St Wilfred built both churches.
