With only Mark left as a guitarist after his brother David left Dire Straits, Knopfler was able to show why he is considered one of the best guitar players of all time, recording both rythmn (with a pick) and lead guitar (with fingers as usual).

Either Hal played rhythm with a pick or Mark played with fingers (nails) or pick.

It’s all Knopfler. You can also hear a bit of tremolo action or vibrato in the rhythm chords. Very crucial

All Mark... at this time the band was composed only by Mark, John Ilsley (Bass) and Pick Withers (Drums).

It’s all Mark Knopfler. Remember during the Making Movies sessions was when David Knopfler left so Mark recorded his parts by himself. Both Alan and Hal only joined on the On Location Tour and then after that they were obviously present in the studio albums as well
