Considering literally everyone is saying that the 'dark horses' will be Uruguay, does that not mean that they are not really dark horses, as they are seemingly thought to be extremely good by everyone, with an amazing group of centre forwards and possibly the two most in form midfielders in the world?
Everyone said Turkey were dark horses at the Euros too (iirc correctly it was like 7/8 BBC presenters), consensus dark horses are weirdly a thing now

You would wonder because of the conditions whether African and Asian countries will perform better than expected while European countries will underperform so there may well be lots of unexpected results because the climate is not what European players are used to playing in so it might cause increasing fatigue among the squad members

Australia has played most of their qualifiers in Qatar, UAE etc. Don't be surprised for a shock win over Denmark. Beat Tunisia and they are through.

cameroon, ghana and senegal are not from a desert climate, tunisia just isn't good enough to get out of their group in any climate. so that leaves morocco to overperform on account of the climate, but they have croatia and belgium in their group, so i don't see that either

Hey Alfie, I have been watching your videos since the beginning of the pandemic and I have to say, I love the fact you never shy away from mentioning the worst parts of football along with the best. I agree that this world cup is the dirtiest sporting event since the Beijing olympics in terms of human rights abuse (with Russia not far behind), but I love the world cup... i am conflicted and I love that you shine a light on that conflict

I had a feeling about Argentina winning as part of the Messi legacy and also Brazil, Spain, England, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands while good teams all look beatable and aren't dripping in the usual world class players bar a few names each...

For group F, I'd probably swap Belgium and Croatia, (seriously, I think Belgium are a bit creaky, especially at the back, and it could cause them problems, I'd put them third in the group myself, but I don't think they'll get out of the group) but I 100% agree that people are underestimating Canada, who are a very good team going into the World Cup. I genuinely believe that they'll be to this World Cup what Japan were to the 2018 World Cup, a team that few would really fancy going into it, but would surprise everyone by getting out the group. Like with Japan, I think that they'll give a good account of themselves in the Round Of 16, having a close match with Germany or Spain, but wouldn't be able to get themselves past them in the end.
Seriously, too many people are sleeping on Canada.
I've watched Belgium yesterday against Egypt and although it was a friendly, they played so depressing, they're one of my favorite national teams but yesterday I couldn't watch them, they all seemed washed up and without Lukaku there was no threat in the attack, no energy compared to their last World Cup, Hazard was so bad, Carrasco tried but did nothing, defence was nowhere to be seen, if it wasn't for Courtois they would have lost 5-1 against Epgyt

As a Croatian I don't mind because our boys always do the best when no one expects a thing from us. Plenty of people predicted us to be grouped in the last world cup as well and see how that turned out! And of course afterwards the same people acted that it was obvious that we were dark horses and that was our golden generation.

I don't think there's ever been a host of a WC that i can remember where i didn't know any of the host nation's players as Qatar who even plays for them
Brazil' Argentina or France to be among the main contenders although with their injuries perhaps France have dropped back a bit
the dark horses if you can call them back are Spain who aren't among the outright favourites so I pick them and possibly Portugal as well
Brazil and Argentina are always considered the top contenders.Personally I would like to see other big football nations to win the cup, e.g. Portugal or the Netherlands. The latter seeing the legendary players they produced over the years and being 3 times runners up and 2 times semi finalists are my personal favourites. Is it likely? who knows..

There have been influencers that I noticed have been involved with this WC since it was announced that it was going to Qatar. A female influencer from mexico was apparently chosen to do a challenge in which they watch every single game. She was also in Qatar doing blogs years before about the WC and their hospitality towards her. I legit cannot believe these influencers, you could give them millions and they'd probably off their children with their own hands.
My bold predictions:
Qatar will advance out of the group stage.
Denmark will make the semis.
Iran will make the quarterfinals.
One of either Belgium and/or Croatia will bomb out of group F.
Unlike the 1986 WC, which I remember well, Canada will score a goal in this WC :-)
Had to leave this comment before watching the entire video; I am so curious about your predictions and how they compare to mine, if you have drawn the same conclusions from the games played of the participants in recent history and their squads. I have a predictions game going with some friends (no money, just for fun) and maybe your predictions give me some good ideas :D.
14:27 not naming Filip Kostic here is a crime, that guy won the EL with Frankfurt while being the best player there and transferred to Juventus in the Summer to play with Vlahovic. Jovic, on the other hand, has not shown how good he can be for years now.
My group predictions are:
Group A: I agree, I had Senegal as 2nd but without Mané it will be tough.
Group B: I agree, but it's very difficult. Iran is actually quite good and I don't think that there will be many goals scored in this group compared to some others.
Group C: looks the same in my predictions - I also have Mexico and Poland draw their first game 2:2, so the goal difference in the other matches might be the decider :D
Group D: I have been watching the Nations League very closely and Denmark defeated France both times in their group. I have Denmark as the group winners and France on 2nd place. Denmark is actually my Dark Horse. I don't think they will win the whole thing, but I have them in the semi finals (together with Argentina, Brazil, and Portugal).
Group E: This is a tough one. Japan is quite good, Costa Rica is not that bad either, and neither Germany nor Spain looked too convincing in recent history. Honestly, anything can happen in this group. Germany especially have games where they look like they are the best team in the world and then they have games where nothing is working at all.
Group F: That one shocked me :D. I have Croatia in 1st, Belgium in 2nd, Canada (who is quite good, just not as good as Croatia and Belgium) in 3rd. I don't see the African teams strong at all in this World Cup, the best one of them is Senegal and even they might not get out of their group without Mané.
Group G: Switzerland is the team that is the most unpredictable for me at this World Cup. They can beat every nation on this planet, but they can also lose to every nation on this planet. However, when it comes to events they usually show up, so no matter who gets through, it's heartbreaking for that third team, because both Switzerland and Serbia are very good teams.
Group H: I agree, but I don't know if Ghana or South Korea (who did not have any convincing results at all and look weaker than usual) will be 3rd and last.
My playoff matches naturally look a bit different, but my winner is the same =).
Group F aged well
@@M__FO Yeah as did a few others :D (like Denmark for example, probably the biggest disappointment at the World Cup). I simply based my predictions on how the teams did in the last ~10 games before the World Cup and nothing hinted at Morocco performing like this (mostly their strong defense though, if we are honest).
Canada did actually play well, they should have won against Belgium, but they had a hard time getting the ball into the goal. Belgium was a huge disappointment, but I don't think anyone would have predicted that they would fail like this.
But in the end I had some good predictions and Argentina as WC winners and that came true, so I am not unhappy with my predictions :D.
I agree with Serbia, i think they will do great. I disagree with the Gavi take tho, i think he is a little overrated. Neymar will be topscorer, i also have Canada finishing 2nd

I see a huge scandal with Qatar and I believe they’ll make it to the Quarter finals and probably lose to Argentina or someone else, I just feel like that matchup in the Quarters if Qatar cheats will come down to pens but I don’t see them getting any further even while cheating (kinda like Korea in 2002)
I feel like teams can't do nearly as much in the age of VAR in terms of getting "help" from the referees. Before, there was so many questionable decisions you didn't even keep track of them, in the past world cup, i feel like there was no more than 5. I'd back Qatar to get out of their group purely because hosts and they're not that terrible, nor are the teams in their group particularly amazing, maybe except NL, but that's it, round of 16 exit, and they should be happy with that honestly

Also, I'm pointing out that the Women's World Cup group stage in 2003 until 2019 had always produced a classic match between USA and Sweden in the same group.

I was wondering why all of a sudden I started getting all these World Cup videos in my recommendations, and it has finally hit me that they are actually playing the World Cup-right now. LOL. I knew nothing about it. I thought they played it in June. The last 3 or 4 days all these videos began to show up in my recs. My World Cup watching history goes back to 1982 when I was in college, and since it actually WAS in June, which was between terms, I had no classes and watched almost every game, most on Spanish language TV here in the US. I don't know any Spanish, but it was still a lot of fun. This one doesn't sound like any fun at all, but at least the US is in it. We weren't in 1982. It doesn't bother me that the games are in Qatar. I find it amusing. Anyway, who cares if you're not going there and only watching on TV? They might as well be playing on the moon of you're just sitting on your couch at home.
The reason it’s such a huge deal it’s in Qatar is the extremely dubious way they won it.
Qatar is a tiny nation, utterly in equipped to hold a WC when they won the bidding 8 years ago. The infrastructure needed was immense.
And to build and finish such an insane project Qatar used boarderline slave labour, killing ~6000 migrant workers in the process. They moved the World Cup start date to November rather than June due to the temperatures being so hot it made playing nearly impossible. The World Cup is ALWAYS in the summer, this has never happened before and it had several knock-on effects. Thousands of club fixtures had to be moved around and re-scheduled. Lmfao either way, the World Cup being in Qatar is not ‘amusing’ it sets a rly shitty precedent that money and corruption will continue to reign supreme in football
@@silvesta5027 Yeah, but that seems to be the standard operating procedure in International sports nowadays. You have to laugh because it's so ridiculous. The clubs and individual nations could have put a stop to this by simply refusing to change the date of fixtures, and then refusing to release players to play in the World Cup. Then the national committees could have backed the clubs, and there'd be no one to play in the World Cup. Instead, because (I guess) they all get a piece of the pie after FIFA takes their cut, they all go along with it. FIFA gets all the blame, but it takes everyone else cooperating to make the whole scheme work.

Hey man! I would like to give you ONE bold prediction.
I think that Mexico has a better chance of qualifiying instead of Poland.
By looking at the squad depth seems fair and balance for both of them.

Now if I substitute France with Denmark at the top of group, I think Mexico may go all the way to the FINAL and beat maybe Spain or Croatia even in the semi finals. Mexico also has the experience with Croatia as they beat them 1-0 before in 2002 and 2014 world cup.

I reckon Iran can be a dark horse and make the quarter finals if they can top their group. Usually during a world cup either the host or a team near the host does well. Out of all the teams from the middle east Iran are easily the best.
