    When you can get a 4080 G14 in the US and still have a few hundred bucks leftover versus a 4070 Blade, the decision becomes a bit more obvious. You have to REALLY want that Razer MacBook-esque aesthetic, otherwise the Razer just does not offer any good value. It’s a great laptop still, but just not justified. They should’ve done more with it. A 4080 G14 has more vram and way more performance, and then of course if you spend a little more in the US you get the 4090/Mini-LED model. I’d argue at that point there is no comparison. The display quality is so much better, it’s still a great chassis, it runs fairly cool and quiet for the power it holds, and not to mention the G14 in SILENT MODE performs way better than the Blade 14 in its performance mode at that point.

    • @tinybit780
      @tinybit780 Год назад

      Hey Josh, what's your Silent score on Time Spy (Stock, no OV) ?
      With .10 BIOS it's like really bad, way, way behind Blade 14 Balanced. Even worse than Blade 14 Silent.

      I.think its.hard to justify razer in the USA however they are similar prices in Europe so razer is a viable option g14 4080 is more expensive than.4070 blade in Europe and that's without miniLED also

      @@tinybit780 yeah I made a post about this on the G14 subreddit. Just stay on or go back to bios 306 and enjoy insane performance in silent mode. Asus will likely fix it permanently in a later bios update, as it’s bugged on the Zephyrus M16 as well.

    • @tinybit780
      @tinybit780 Год назад

      @@JoshCravesTech I'll try, Thank you.
      By the way: Comparing the two displays side by side, I have to say that the G14 Mini LED is not MUCH better (at least for me). The difference with the Blade 16 Mini LED was greater when I had it here, as it has twice as many dimming zones and up to 1100 nits.
      The brightness levels between the Blade 14 and the G14 are relatively similar. The Razer has a native contrast of 1300, which is better than the usual IPS panel. When it comes to OLED HDR content on YT, the G14 is only moderately better in my eyes, as it would have needed more brightness to make use of its dimming zones, thus allowing colors to pop out more compared to black. It's still great and is better, it just feels a little smaller than I expected.
      The Asus Nebula's IPS display is definitely worse because of the contrast being 950~. I remember comparing the Blade 16 (MIni-LED), G14 2023 (Mini-LED) and G14 2022 (IPS) at work with a colleague and the difference was very obvious & much better as you'd say.
      Of course, if you want to watch lots of HDR movies, I'd definetely advise to go with the G14 Mini-LED!
      To be honest, even if you have to pay 200 bucks more.

    • @JoshCravesTech
      @JoshCravesTech Год назад +4

      @@tinybit780 yeah in SDR with the Blade 16 and G14 right next to each other on my desk right now, they look about the same brightness. I think both are around 600 nits in SDR, or at least close to that. The dimming algorithm is pretty good on both. I actually see the dimming zones more on the Blade despite it having double. It’s a little more obvious or slower to dim I guess on the Blade. In HDR though the Blade definitely gets a bit brighter but the smaller screen on the G14 makes it appear a little brighter than what 600 nits normally looks like. It looks closer to like 800. The Blade definitely hits 1,100 and it’s blinding. However in content the deep blacks look great on both. Now throwing the Legion Pro 7i in there, which has about the same specs as the Blade 14 (100% sRGB, 500-600 nits), the difference is much more noticeable to me. The Legion’s colors are not nearly as vibrant and in HDR it’s not even close. The Legion and Blade 14 don’t have a wide enough color gamut for true HDR so it looks pretty washed out and dim in comparison. Also the G14 has the option of turning single-zone mode on for more accurate color reproduction and uniform brightness. I still don’t get why no one else has implemented this in their mini-LED displays. It’s a huge advantage for creators on the go or just casual web browsing.

    the real difference is in raw power the G14 has 4080 or 4090 options but if you are comparing the G14 4070 or 4060 then the Razer wins on heat and fan noise emissions are better, also in Europe the G14 4060 is much cheaper than the Razer however the 4070 G14 is only slightly cheaper than the Razer not sure why

    I should have watched your video before buying the G14. In the US all Models besides the one with RTX 4090 got a IPS Display instead of Mini-LED. Because I am very sensitive to PWM I really hoped, that the Zephyrus would be the perfect laptop for me. Sadly all versions in Germany have Mini-LED.
    (does anybody knows, if the smallest one with the 7735H maybe has IPS instead of Mini-LED?)
    I really would have preferred it over the Blade. But now the Blade will arrive soon and hopefully will be good!

    My only problems with the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 are : 1/ it is not some "universal" looking laptop, you cannot take it to a business meeting, etc. it is meant for gamers. The design is ... simply for gamers. Period. 2/ when you open the lid, the entire laptop gets "picked-up" which is something I really don't like (the reason is obvious, it allows more airflow from under the device to enhance cooling) but imagine you have many different things connected to the laptop body by different cables, like the power cable, USB-hub, HDMI to external monitor ... and all these are being picked-up everytime you open the lid (this routine will most definitely damage the ports very soon), besides, when opened, the laptop is quite unstable on the table and is moving all the time ...
    The pluses (compared to the Razer) are : you can choose better GPU, so for gamers, it will be better.
    But as for the rest, the Razer 14 (2023) is the absolute winner here. 1/ universal "apple-quality" look; 2/ great upgradeability; 3/ very stable on the table (compared to Asus); the minus (compared to Asus) is the price, but who cares? If you decide to buy a Macbook you also don't complain about the price, right? You want a Macbook, so you know it is going to be costly. It is the exclusivity and the quality without compromises you are getting. Razer is NOT exactly for "all gamers" or "just for gamers", it is for anyone who wants very powerful yet compact device, with excellent build quality and design, where the price is not the main turning point.
    You either want it and you are ready to pay the price, or you go and get Asus ROG.

    - If you find the razer at the same price or AT MAXIMUM 100 dollars more of the Rog, pick the Razer
    - Otherwise, pick the Rog
    In both cases, i swear you won't be disappointed. And always look for deals in the used market, believe me, Gaming Notebook are insane in the used market.

    Over the last 3-4 cycles these models were CLOSE but often there was a HUGE trade off. IE: one would only have a xx60 and 1080P screen options.
    While I find it comical at best that nobody is complaining about the mere 8GB of video RAM some of these models have the 14" form factor is my favorite - small enough to be truly portable but stuffed with enough CPU/GPU/Screen resolution that with the addition of a external power source you can do some serious gaming on one.
    While the pricing is surely UP on the 2023 models the still VERY effective 2022 models are still in stock and getting less expensive. :)

    Hey Notebookcheck, you say there's no custom calibrated profile. However, many reviews say otherwise and I can confirm this. I have a calibrated Blade profile and my screen is quite accurate already. Razer also promises a factory calibrated profile on their official sources. A few quotes from other reviewers:
    "The superlatives didn’t end there, though; the Blade 14 covered 114.3 percent of the DCI-P3 color space and 161 percent of sRGB. The Blade 16 was the next-closest competitor, but its colorimeter results fell well short of its smaller sibling at 93.7 and 132 percent, respectively" Toms Hardware
    " It also has an anti-glare treatment, and the panel’s color is factory-calibrated. Our tests using DisplayCal revealed that Razer has delivered on its promises. The panel features a strong maximum brightness of 542 cd/m² and a DCI P3 color space coverage of 103.9%, with 146.6% sRGB space coverage. The average Delta E00 is 1.87"

    I have both and will probably keep the Blade :)
    The G14 unfortunately has a much hotter surface, even on lighter tasks. That's annoying, especially in the summer.
    The chassis is clearly better on the Blade 14 to me, high quality material and I love the unibody. G14 on the keyboard deck sometimes feels a bit like touching a sandpaper, not so smooth if you know what I mean; otherwise it’s very soIid and in the upper league of gaming laptops, just not as good Razer. i really used them a lot and this aspect is quite important to me, so I’m not missing the MacBook too much 😀
    The G14 4080 is going to my girlfriend or I'll sell it.
    Display and performance are of course better on the G14 BUT Asus keeps the G14 around 70-85W (GPU) on performance while the Blade pulls 90-100W on the GPU even on silent and balanced. This is the sweet spot for 4070. So the gap in some situations is smaller than you might think.
    Turbo on the G14 is simply too hot and noisy.

    In Europe you can NOT get the G14 4080 for the same price as the 4070 Razer its about 300 Euro more for the G14 4080 WITHOUT the MiniLED screen option, in USA the G14 is much better value and cheaper than the Razer with the minLED as options for the 4080 also so they gets get much better options, no idea why..

      Sorry if I'm confused by your comment, but in the U.S. the only model with a mini-LED screen is the 4090 configuration, which costs around $400 more than the Razer with a 4070.

    Asus all the way. Razer is way too expensive. g14 with rtx 4060 can be had for 2100 euros while razer is 2800. and I think the g14 is already too much, but the price of the razer is just shameless. physically seems to be a bit more premium but that's the only attraction. A legion 7 with 4080 can be had for the price of a 4060 razer which is just ridiculous.

      Haha the main problem of RB14 this year is that the $2800 is already M2 Max level price, while the 4070 didn't beat the hardware performance (3D Wildlife) of M2 Max. It should at least bring Mercury version down to 4060+16GB RAM.

I attempted to watch this with the volume turned ALL THE WAY UP and still could barely understand what he was saying MOST of the time. I finally gave up. Much easier/quicker to have a WRITTEN review so folks can simply READ (or skim over) what you are trying to say.
