If you are flying around Michigan, come stop into KONZ (grosse ile). It's an old navy base that is right on the Detroit river. A lot of history came out of there and it's a beautiful airport/ spot to fly into. Also could show you around if you would like!

Hi Matt, you did it again, my friend! A great flying day, lots of fun, a visit to the airplane graveyard and by the end of the day, lo and behold, the TBM flight! What a luxury of a day you all had. Thanks to private aviation (and you!). By the way, I loved the change in music style at the beginning of the TBM takes. So elegant, serene and laid-back! I really enjoy your videos. Take care (and get in touch!) . Regards, Eduardo.😉

Great vid Matt! The arpt in Oscoda used to be Wurtsmith AFB. A SAC unit that had B-52s and KC-135s. I used to be there a lot as a CAP cadet in the 70s. Even got to fly in the 135s to Florida twice. McDill and McCoy AFBs. Heady stuff for a young teen! Ain't Lake Huron awesome? edit: Mythbusters did an episode in Oscoda where they used a Kalitta 747 to blow cars and buses around.

That used to be Wurtsmith Airforce base in Oscoda. At 12:16 in your video you fly past a white building out in lake Huron that is in Alabaster, its a old loading dock for freighters it used to have a tram rail system with buckets that loaded the freighters with gypsum. I spent many summers boating the whole area as a kid it was nice seeing it from the air.. keep up the nice videos.

I live only a few miles away from the Goodyear Airport just outside of Phoenix, AZ; it is always fun to drive by and look at the airplanes awaiting their final demise, many which I've done engine changes on for American Airlines. How many of us were turning green with envy over the TBM ? ;)

I used to fly from Indy (KIND) to Detroit City (KDET) via Southwest. If I booked far enough in advance, I could get them for $39 round trip. I would buy like 10 of them and then just change the dates when I need them. Then they stopped flying to CIty and this start up airlines that I can't remember the name of had A320 service from Indy and they went belly up in a year. City is a strange airport. It's just over 5000 feet so it's just long enough for a 737/A320 type plane. But the take off is damn near vertical and the landing will test the best braking systems ever designed. But now it's like landing in a war zone. That area of Detroit has become a sewer. Metro is now the only place I will fly to.

By the way, Livingston County Airport was the home base of Henry Haigh, who was a World and U.S. Aerobatic Champion back in the 70s and 80s. He was a good friend of my dad (and also of Kermit Weeks) and took me flying in his Breezy a couple of times. Finally, the airport's terminal is named for Spence Hardy, who was the long-time airport manager, another of my dad's friends, and my first flight instructor.

You should consider flying into Tight Squeeze Field in rural Missouri - a grass strip owned by Don Tate, who's been into GA forever, and flew for Ozark, and TWA for a good long time. His hanger is full of history, aircraft models, magazines, and a napalm tank. He's got a ton of knowledge about everything aviation and would make for a very interesting interview. I can get you in contact if it's something that interests you.
