I've been watching Jake for years. What I love most about his content is that he is one of the few Goth RUclipsrs who actually make you think. Most Goth RUclipsrs now just make videos like, "Look at my new shopping haul!" or "Look at the holiday I went to with YOUR money!" There's nothing wrong with doing that every now and again, but it just becomes mind-numbing for me and just not fun if they do that for every video.

I'm 35 and so I COMPLETELY agree with everything you said. I too have been a teenager before the internet, and after. Society peaked in the late 90's, and simmered towards the mid 2000's. After 2008 it was all down hill. Human beings did not evolve to live terminally online like this.
Can we just go back to the late '90s and early 2000s when social media wasnt really around, phones were just to make calls and texts, & kids actually listened to their parents, and RUclips was just getting started
The Incredibles analogy was the best way to put it when it comes to content creating. Thousands and thousands of copy paste "influencers" and "creators", there's no creativity anymore. RUclips in general used to be about people who genuinely loved creating videos, it was for fun, but it's completely rotten now.

I couldn't love this video anymore. I had these same talks at work over and over with some customers and staff. It was nice seeing someone else say exactly what I've said about the platform. And music, holy hell. The business side of the industry was already the worst, then tiktok took the biggest shit on it.

Im 40 and I regret not having kids. The kids I would have had would have been bad a$$. I grew up strong. I grew up without media and with it. I've never followed trends I just knew who I wanted to be in life. I just dislike this generation of losers who complain too much.

I heard a guy say that the signal to noise ratio was real bad in modern videos and I think that's the best way I can think of to describe most of this stuff. A whole lot of meaningless nonsense and nothing or very very little of value to be had. And that extends to pretty much everything in life right now.
I’m GenZ and really don’t like my generation and regret getting a phone so young, literally live is dead for most of my generation and they don’t know how to be bored so I’m really happy that I would get breaks for weeks to months from devices that helped me know how to be bored and just enjoy life

I downloaded the app once, 6 years ago, made a few horrible videos with the motionless in white songs i liked at the time, then got bored & deleted it the same night, lol. I feel like i *just* missed the stupidity wave, and I'm very glad for it
I don't have Tik Tok but from the clips I've seen here and there, I'm quite fine not having it. And I completely agree about the social media radicalization of everything, especially politics. It's frightening how little platform the center of the aisle people, like myself, have. I mean we've never had much but it's basically non existent at this point. I made a simple comment on a post just last week that people shouldn't believe everything they see and read on social media and next thing I'm getting called mad, angry, and all kinds of shit for simply saying it's ok to question. Hell that's what my generation did. That's how we rebelled, we questioned. We questioned religion, we questioned social standards and norms, we questioned the authority, and even when we were given answers, we still scrutinized those answers. Now, no one wants you to question anything and if you do you're either a woke, liberal snowflake or evil, Nazi bigot. It's disgusting and sad that people can't even have simple debates anymore. They can't agree to disagree.
The way that 'allies' silence people from the same communities they're supposed to be uplifting, because there's people who say "Hey, I don't think that way, i see a problem". People think you can't disagree without feeling hate!! 🤦🏻♀️🙄
Politicizing and romanticizing everything that has to do with mental health, conditions and medicine are camps now because having a diagnosis is a personality now?!🤨🤔 And that's as somebody who has a couple diagnosis and see the way theyre put on some weird pedestal; used as excuses and watered down to pinterest board aesthetics and "quirks" by them.
And it's all convincing older generations, like Gen X and millennials, who grew up without that, and you'd think they'd question it.

She says to me “what’s that?” So I explained what it was and how it was destroyed. I get done explaining the history and she goes “who’s Julius Caesar?” I just walked back into my office saying nothing further.
Bro, you can say literally any name from the ancient world and 99.999999999999% of people will not have heard of them. There are major celebrities and people running everything major in my own city that I have no clue who they are. Up until YT started to feed it into my algorithm, I had no clue who Marcus Aerulius was. Literally heard about that man maybe a year ago.

I feel ya man. I'm an elder millennial myself so I can relate. Dating is horrible for everyone it's been so bad that I just gave up on relationships. Our kids are purposely putting themselves in danger bc of social media and their parents know better. We stopped teaching our girls how to protect themselves while also teaching boys how to be predators. In our youth it was hard to find the lunatic conspiracy theorist now they're everywhere. And take sound cloud artists. They are terrible. So many people think they're models or rappers or singers and they all suck. Or think they are a brilliant comedian when they are trash. Or ripping off the dance moves from others.

As an American, it’s incredibly important as it’s one of the few places of communication we have that isn’t monitored or controlled by the us government. Facebook, news companies and other social media platforms fund government campaigns and as a direct result it suppresses vital information about our own country and the world.

I was internally screaming and cringing all at the same time during The Crow video the other day,but I digress 😅 I enjoy a good conspiracy theory every now and then but am not one to truly entertain much. However,I have a bit of a theory about TikTok. I don't think the government hype to shut it down was ever about security,I think it was about ease of info and news sharing and our governments not being in control of it. I think they realized how it can be used to their advantage,just how zombified and apathetic nearly two generations of our population are,particularly in the US. As you stated,we have never been more divided.

Tik tok has me on overload sometimes. We aren't meant to take on the weight of the entire world and we need to look to our communities first. Our communities are crumbling right now and I have never been more worried at the direction our country is heading. Also the mental health strain this is having on teens, kids is showing. I don't think it would fully be a bad thing if it was gone.
When you grow up in a world that makes being an influencer the biggest want ever it's hard not to want to be that but not every one from gen z wants that life some actually wanna work and be like the other gens with a 9-5 job, besides that every gen is cringe in their own way it just depends of what kinda cringe it is, just cause one app is doing better than another doesn't mean it's bad it just means that they're doing something right that other apps aren't and as something who actually has ADHD it's hard for me to focus on long form content/media so having short form content helps people who actually have ADHD get the content/media they like in.

You're bang on about the loss of nuance these days, but it isn't exactly new, just dialled up to eleven. I enjoy being the middle finger in most discussions though and nuance is what allows it, doesn't matter the topic, I'll find a spanner to throw in the machinations of someones logic, and observe how regardless of their leaning, instead of challenging their own ideals, they often double down on them. People cling to their ideals for fear of having no home, and the rhetoric I see about centrists and moderates, it's depressing.
A great example, look at the latest video by Leo Kearse and his thumbnail "Man arrested over a poster!", and on that poster are words about it not being wrong to be white. Like okay, not exactly worth arrest nor a terrible statement on the face of it, but what is being purposefully ignored?
Had the poster suggested that certain interaction with children wasn't wrong, would it still merely be a poster, and would the people currently up in arms be so if that guy was arrested?
There's more to the story, the words themselves aren't the issue but the possible ideology behind them. But arresting people for ideology, that is arguably the realm of thought crime. A thought shouldn't be a crime nor worthy of arrest, real life shouldn't seek to emulate minority report, but at the same time I'm certain we all understand that there are thoughts we hear that kinda get the bumhole twitching such that it's possibly better to not risk the thought being acted upon. And so we hit the grey area, the zone of discomfort for those seemingly capable of only linear thinking.
You gotta take the side roads, gotta question yourself, gotta find a new observation point, change of perspective. All ideas must be held up to the light and observed, manipulated, poked at and challenged. Failing to do so leads to being an ideologue. Instead of knowing, you take it on faith, and what has faith ever brought us but divison.

Probably one of the few videos I’ve seen in awhile where I found myself reflecting and agreeing with all the points being presented. I like who I am in my 30’s, but boy do I miss the times before the wave of trash flooded the internet. The idea that albums are being considered unappealing to the industry is making me have a conniption.
I was born in 1985 and my parents are from the 50s and early 60s. I was raised more like a Gen X than a millennial even though that 's technically what I am. The 90s were the fucking best. Turtle Mania was at it's peak to start the decade and the Sega Dreamcast at the end. What a time to be a kid. Not to mention the decade was basically the Nintendo Decade. Snes and N64 and then the Gamecube...Jurassic Park ushered in a new era of film making. OJ got away with murder. A princess was killed fleeing paparazzi. Fuck the USSR fell. We were all high on the hog.
Being born in the 70s not having any technology I totally get it. Our generation would play outside all day. We weren't strapped to the TV or playing video games. It was great. I miss those days. Kids were kids. I wish i was able to have children. But I couldn't.
The whole reason they're making it okay for children to have sex changes and saying they can consent to this is because if they can consent to that they can absolutely consent to other things in theory so it's the PDF files didn't want to be able to say the kids can consent to most things

On the work part. I would love to work more hours and I don't mind working 8h a day. (sadly I also do college so i can only do 2 a 3 days max) before my second college I was used to beign a shift leader and somtimes doing 11 h a day to keep to place running. but I will say having a good possitive work enviroment does better the work result. I've opened up to a lot of colleages and communicate with them often resulted in more people willing to help you. Take tasks from you or switch days with you when you can't. it made a better team bond I'm all up for. I have had shitty jobs. look no further than mcdonalds (that place dehumanized EVERYONE). but I also will say that if you as a gen z or gen alpha am not willing to put effort into your work you also will not achieve the work enviorment you want. your work can be ASS CRACK. but if you keep your colleages on a friendly side and idfk become more social. then you will see that the 8 hours can feel like only 6 and you can get yur good ass pay check and still buy an appartment. (cuz that's what I did!!!) ((no houses are too exspensive tho) ) it's not bad wanting to change the work enviorment...but then actually start yourself! otherwise yur just a selfish hypocrite that wants stuff to happen but not put the work into it. AND I KNOW not every gen z is like this. it's mainly those on social media still in their room at 24 crying about work. ot the new kids from late gen z that haven't seen outside yet and echoing what they see on tiktok.
AND don't get me started on the self diagnosis or excuuses they have for not "working properly" I have ADD (been diagnose by professionals back in 2010) didn't know what it meant back then had no help or medication for it either not even now, Intorvert, am trans man, tore a muscle in my right upper leg, i'm finace wise i'm not rich...far from it even, I am doing a second college and have no CAR or drivings license. I still work. I still function well enough to do my tasks. I still cycle many killometers to my places, I still do my work as good as possible. i still help out when needed. I still do side work once at home. I had a burn out and still couldn't sit down and wait. cuz life won't wait! just cuz you have something of a adhd, autism or a busy life doesn't mean that you can't do your work. we still can. you still can. you just gotta commit to it and probably manage your priorities. then don't party 24/7 or drink or buy new items and ask mom and dad for stuff. go out start managing your own thing. it sure is scary but at some point you will lose what you have and when your support is gone....how will you support yourself? maybe it's cuz i have been nearly broke several times or lived poor at my parent place. maybe I have seen the worse too mucha nd there for am willing to work to the better. either way. wake up gen z. stopp this fighting over who's gender is what and start changign REAL world for the better. cuz the only ones doing that are those not tied to media.

You're not wrong, I did have the best time in the 90s. Except the dial-up. Malls, arcades, all that shit they pretend is how it used to be on Stranger Things or Wonder Woman 84 or whatever that trash was. Build quality for furniture, clothing quality, less packaging, people had real skills and you could hire them to do things. It's all gone. You can go to wallmart (itself a nightmare which single-handedly destroyed said malls, before Amazon drove in the last spike to the heart) and buy a bookshelf and it's pretty trash and falls apart, AND you can go back a literal week later and get the same shelf AND SOMEHOW IT'S EVEN WORSE ALREADY BUT COSTS MORE. *cough* Anyway I guess enjoy the stinking hellhole the boomers and china made for you younglings. Speaking of younglings, even the first couple starwars episodes seem good in comparison to what they put out now. The only thing that's fully better now than then is Anime. Every year in Italy there's a music festival called Sanremo, which a bunch of times has the contenders throwing some political or societal commentary here and there and I was talking to my group of friends about how I don't like the display of politics during singing competitions. After the discussion of me and another friend agreeing, the other friend felt the need to apologize saying "I'm sorry guys I hope I didn't upset you".
And we were like "for what?"...it was just a simple conversation and she felt the need to apologize because nowadays people feel like they're in the wrong for everything they say out loud, that doesn't match with the majority of opinions (which is the loud majority, not even the actual majority most of the times).
Same with Right and Left wing. You can't say anything, without being labeled as something specific and radical, just because the person disagrees with ONE SINGLE POINT that you made.
