Reason: it lasts in the paint for decades, causes fisheyes, makes repainting the car in whole or part extraordinarily difficult. Body shops don't allow it anywhere near their businesses.
Thanks for showing this. Brings back memories- yearly “cleaner “-polish/ wax to remove the oxidation and restore a nice shine.. Also clean / polish chrome bumpers and trim. Scrub the whitewall tires with Brillo steel wool pads. Today - not so much - clear coat paints and lots of plastic , not much shiny trim, black wall tires. And about everything an SUV looking like appliances in some shade of gray , it doesn’t matter.
