  • The basic concept of this new dog sport is people can train their household pet to be detector dogs that indicate on legal odors. What's cool about this dog sport is that dogs of any breed, size and temperament can easily be trained to compete in nosework competitions.

@leerburg Of course, lol. It looks like a great set up, and I hope that is covered in the DVD as well.

Why are the dogs being pulled on the leash instead of letting them find the scent at their own pace?

I think it's to speed the process along. If I'm not mistaken I think there is a time aspect of it too.

Really have a question. You say Nosework will not interfer with agility, obedience, rally, etc. What about tracking?

Old news, but for pet owners, you can encapsulate this game entirely outside of other training.. the dog learns it as a game. they Fing love it. their nose, your attention.

Tracking and detection are two different things and shouldn't make a difference. I would have different words and different equipment for each activity, so the dog knows the different between the two. For example, dog who track can also do detection work in professional environments. Police dogs are trained in both. My tracking dog knows both tracking and detection.
