@Lukas Bergqvist 2016 was slightly better if you count the olympics doubles gold but a nightmare at most of the GS AO - R1 lost to Verdasco in tight 5 sets FO - wrist injury withdrawal WB - didn’t play US - R16 lost to Pouille in tight 5 sets
Injured for 3 years from mid 2014, has an appendicitis operation at the end of 2014 then finally took the second half of 2016 off to have more surgeries and rest
It was because the speed of the game has gotten faster. You’ll notice that Nadal before 2017 played much more spiny and loopy and that wasn’t cutting it anymore. So he started tinkering with different strings in early 2015 and was changing it back and forth throughout 2015-2016. His confidence didn’t just suddenly “drop” for no reason.
Athletes go through a period where their bodies don’t allow them to play like they use to. Nadal here was trying to play with the spin and defensive like he did early during his prime years but he slowed down and had to get Carlos moya to help him train and adapt to be more offensive. Noticed his serve improved, he started playing more offensively with serve and volleys and finished points off quicker. He also stepped up closer to the baseline instead of standing back 2 meters behind the line.
Nadal forgot how to grunt in this match clearly
ㅋㅋㅋ
He didn't need to lol
That's a great thing
2015 Rafa was the worst Rafa of all time
His confidence, positioning and shotmaking were all over the place. It just got worse as the season went on.
Where is the Nadal grunt???
No need he was only playing with spin.
@@15Stratos it's so weird though
It's so interesting to see that with very few different shots he could've possibly had the third set.
I wonder why rafas form dropped as much as it did in 2015. I mean he was awful
