  • A wet wild camp in the iconic Glen Etive, off the beaten track amongst mountains. The weather forecast was rain and strong winds that ‪@murchiesmountains2820‬ and I decided to go for a low level wild camp deep in Glen Etive. Most people just camp off the street, but we decided to explore the real Glen Etive...
    Hope you enjoy the video,

    Been looking at the map as the spot was magic,
    Will have to try a camp down by the river, it’s always put me off as the valley is so busy, and never fancied leaving the car, but you two did it, a bit off season but I bet the roadside was still busy ? In the valley.

    That 'No Camping' sign is illegal under the Land Reform Act (Scotland) 2003. There are always some people that try to enforce English laws up here, but as much as they might want them to be, they are not valid in Scotland. If it was me i would have taken it down and brought it home with me.

    Good stuff Stripey.
    It is legal to camp in most remote locations in Scotland under the Land Reform Act so you'd have been within your rights to camp there.
    The No Camping sign may be a response to previous campers who have left litter etc rather than following the "Leave no trace" ethic.

      @@StripeyHatGuy How are you finding condensation when using the single skin shelter compared to a tent?

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  Год назад

      It is not as bad as people talk it. I used in the Alps like 90 percent of the time single wall tents (self-built) and now in Scotland for some time the duomid. Yes it gets wet inside but so far I had it not 'raining' on me when it is windy 😉. I think it is more important that you pick a descent camp spot than it would be with a double wall tent - the only hindrance in Scotland are the wee beast's for me 😎

      Thanks a lot Merky! Aye Robert has as well a channel - link in description 👍. No I haven't considered completing the Munro's, I had an Excel sheet for my peaks in the Alps for memories. For me it is really not about a number, rather for the experience I have...when I 'bag' some it is ok but I would never sit in the clag on top of a mountain just to get it 'bagged', for me it is about the views. Of course it can always happen that weather changes but heading knowingly on top of a mountain in bad weather is for me just pointless and even potentially dangerous 🤔.

    A fantastic glen, I camped overnight there beside the road and got my kids to collect bog myrtle to keep the midges away from the air vents, although I hate camping in the rain .... far too many soggy mornings carrying a heavy damp tent.
    Personally that sign would have ended up in the river, whether I intended to camp there or not. Probably some gillie from a local estate trying to mark out a fishing spot for paying customers. If in doubt regarding a dispute with landowners or their employees always suggest calling a policeman and of course video the incident. I bet they give up before the rambler does. As long as you're not invading someone's privacy (if they don't mow the lawn there it isn't a private garden) or damaging their livelihood you should be on the right side of the law.

      Thanks a lot for the advice, good to know if I would ever run into a problem like that. This is actually how I understood the regulations: Not camping and or crossing gardens, out of sight and leaving no trace. The sign was for me on a kind of a random place tbh. might be a left over from the end of 'lockdown rush' where a lot of camper behaved like .... for the defence of the sign 🤔

Still loving the Scarp 1...said this the one thing which is a kind of annoying with the Scarp 1 is the pack size in comparison with the duomid - when you don't want to have it inside of your pack you need to put it in at the beginning in which is not necessarily my preferred way of putting things away, particular in rain.
      On the other hand the duomid has only one door and when it rains it rains onto the groundsheet (damn pyramid shape 😂😂😂). I guess every tent has its pros and cons but at the moment I enjoy the pros of the duomid 😎
