    IMO, upgraded wheels are the best upgrade. Going with a higher quality wheelset (including hubs) with a solid warranty (i.e. NOBL, We Are One) has been amazing for me.

    Thia is such a good idea, i bought a second hand Cube HPC 160 from a dealer. This was the basic model which is a good model, over time upgraded everything Lyrick Ultimate 160, Hope 155 cranks, MT7 brakes, Hope hubs wheels, Spank Vibro bars, can go and on but over time its a more affordable way to do and now have a good spec bike.

    The smallest gear on the cassette causing the chain to jump is not always the chain or cassette itself rather than muck getting in between the gears. It happens a lot where I ride and if it skips I know it's 99/100 dirty. A quick clean and it's good to go again. If it's clean and still doing it and you know the derailleur is aligned correctly it will be the chain and or cassette. You can buy just that cog if it's Shimano. I'm not sure about Sram though.

    I’ve just finished the final part of the upgrade project on my hardtail Giant Fathom E+3 29er (installing Tannus Armour inserts onto my rear rims) . The bike originally cost me £1899 and over the two years of ownership I’ve changed everything except the battery, motor, handlebars, grips rims and crank arms. More importantly I’ve done everything on a budget, most of the components were sourced from eBay, Amazon and Facebook marketplace and I’ve learned a lot about building a better bike. It’s been a long and sometimes frustrating journey of discovery but the end result both for me and my bike have been worth it.

    I had this every same questions for a long time, since that what I did this past summer when buying my eMTB. I just wasn't sure if it was the right move, since I already did few upgrades that would have put me in higher class bike IMO. I got the Bulls Six50 E FS3 RSI, one of the first things I did was switch the pedals (to a pair I already had), then I got a new seat, shorter stem, higher rise bars, grips and tires. But the major thing I had to upgrade was the wheels, since I discovered months after purchasing it the was that wheels didn't have sealed bearings (surprised in this day and age, that any major bike comes with loose ball bearing hubs). My advice is research, research, research.

    I bought a cheaper ebike and upgraded it. As long as the frame, engine and battery are good, then you can upgrade overtime and end up with a high end bike. And not every part needs to be high spec, but then again, on high spec bikes they are saving on some parts ass well. Pay attention to the fork ass well, an aexpensive upgrade

    #AskEMBN Can you give Pro tips for upgrading your EMTB? Since summer I'm the proud owner of a 2018 NDURO 9.0. As winter season is aproaching I'm thinking of upgrading my bike considering following upgrades:
    - stiffer headset --> Intend BC Stiffmaster
    - upgrade hubs to torque cap
    - grease all bearings
    - replace bolts with titan bolts
    - replace tube tyres with tubeless
    - replace quick release seatpost clamp with a non quick release seatpost clamp (why you need quick release with a dropper post???)
    - ...
    As you earn your incomes driving (e)MTBs I consider you pro-riders. As pro-riders I would assume that you upgrade your bikes instead of driving it as out-of-the-box.
    What pro-upgrades (I'm not talking about better components like a better fork or suspension) would you do after bying a new (e)MTB

  • @melenriquez8985
    @melenriquez8985 4 года назад

    The DNA of a bike is it's frame. Pick the proper frame for your intended use. For example, the Trance and the Anthem may look the same on the surface, but the differences in the fork angle and other things, make one good at downhill while the other is faster and better all around, but weak at downhills. Of course, it goes without saying that buying a hardtail like an XTC, you can't really convert that to a full suspension. So, know if you will go full sus or not.
    Thus, your first priority is to pick the proper frame for you. Then you worry about th other parts. Fork, handlebar, saddle, etc. Some are cheaper to upgrade or change (hb, saddle, pedals), but others are more expensive (like the fork or group set). If you can live with a modest subparts, you can use it till you've saved up enough money to upgrade them. Normally, people immediately change the saddle, grip, pedals, or hb. They are cheaper to change. Other times, one can simply import them from an older bike so it won't cost one anything.
    In my case, I know I need to upgrade my fork (the most expensive one) from the Suntour XCM. But that will take a bit of time as forks usually cost more. I already have 10 speed cogs and XT shifters from older bikes, so I can get those and upgrade my existing 9 speed to 10 speed at no added cost. Maybe the only cost is a new chain as going 11-46T will require a longer chain.

    OK an old video, but I bought a basic full suss Haibike, and will upgrade components as and when I feel the need. The frame is very similar to the high ends, and for my style of riding , I may not need high end componetry.

    THESE EBIKES DO EAT THE 11 TOOTH GEARS UP VERY EASY. THERE IS SO MUCH TORQUE GOING THROUGH THE GEAR WITH ONLY 11 TEETH. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS RUN A LARGER FRONT CHAIN RING SO YOUR TOP GEAR IS MAINLY A HIGHWAY CRUISING GEAR. GOING UP TO A 36T OR 38T FRONT CHAIN RING WILL KEEP YOU IN YOUR LOWER GEARS ALOT MORE AND THERE IS MORE TEETH ON THEM SO THEY CAN HANDLE YOUR LEG TORQUE PLUS THE MOTORS TORQUE. MY FRIENDS RUN 10 SPEED 34T FRONT 11 TO 40T REAR WITH GOOD RESULTS. I RUN A 11 SPEED 38T FRONT 11-46 REAR AND I RARELY NEED MY TOP GEAR.

    I'll second the upgrade option... but beware, some upgrades can be a nightmare. I recently upgraded my Cube reaction to eShift/di2 - which involved a visit from a Bosch engineer to reprogram the drive unit, plus I had to reshape the hanger to get the derailleur properly aligned and the lower gears working.
    Well worth the upgrade tho...

    • @richardswift4196
      @richardswift4196 5 лет назад

      @@danimayb upgrading a cable actuated derailleur shouldn't be any hassle as there's no connection to the CAN bus, but integrating di2 required a bit of reprogramming to enable eShift.
      Could've done the di2 upgrade as a separate system (using a separate battery & display), but integration seemed like the better option.

I already changed the tires, brakes, fork, seat, pedals and seat post. #AskEMBN 2 questions , 1. how about a 29+ tires for ebike , that would be a definitely a hoot to ride. What are your thoughts ? Did you ever rode anything with that wheel size.
    2. What are your thoughts on conversion kits to turn your existing bike into an e-bike ?

    • @sterpumihai
      @sterpumihai 5 лет назад

      1. I had the chance to test a haibike 8.0 fullnine 2018 which had 29" wheels. Very smooth rolling, perfect for long tours. Big massive 2.6" wide tyres get you over obstacles like roots and rocks easily.
      If you don't do extremely sporty stuff with it, it's the ideal choice as maneuvering in tight spaces won't be as good as one with 27.5" wheels.
      2. Not an ideal choice as the motor needs to be situated centrally, not on the rear hub otherwise you will notice how its weight affects your climbing. Leaving aside the issues with warranty, battery etc.

    Nice vid ...:-) rather surprised no mention of motor on the upgrade section ... I mean changing a Bosch, Brose, Panasonic, Shimano or Yamaha is a bigger deal than changing the forks or modding your battery for greater range. And they are not the same in the way they support your ride ... I don't think you will be swapping them out as I am not sure it is possible. For example, my rear shock doesn't have a lock out, so could I just run more pressure in it to get rid of some of the bounce? My concern is that i started with the bosch performance cx and really notice the motor difference on some of the others I've ridden. Cannondale is an option but it looks like they're phasing out the monterra (which has the motor i like) for the neo. I'm mainly a Florida Rider (e bike are amazing here) but travel to mts quite a bit. Yamaha and shimano steps are looking like my two options if i did want to stay with the brands i promote. do you intend to install a carrier? because that is problematic on a full suspension.
      do you intend to use an additional battery? because that is also problematic for full sus'es.
      I searched a lot for a "trekking" FS but I wasn't able to find one. In the end I went with a normal FS instead of a hardtail but not for comfort. Keep in mind that hardtails on rocky terrain are difficult to drive, really bouncy whereas on full sus bikes your rear wheel stays planted and you feel a lot more stable.
      Just think of how much you will go out with camping gear, let's say in 100 tours. If more than 40-50, then go with a hardtail bike that easily allows you to carry equipment and an extra battery.
      If less, there will be solutions for carrying stuff as well but you will have a bike capable of handling rougher terrain.

    #AskEMBN I have the money ready to buy my first e-bike. I am currently looking at the new Canyon Neuron:ON 7.0. My current bike is a Trek Fuel EX8 with 26" wheels which is 10 years old. The frame size on this bike would classified as a medium and similarly on an even older Scott hardtail that I own. Using Canyon's sizing chart I would need a small frame not a medium. Is this accounted for with the fitting of larger wheel sizes or maybe it is brand specific? The other problem is that the small Neuron:ON comes with 27.5" wheels not 29" wheels. There is no option to fit 29" wheels. I was rather hoping to have the larger size wheels, even more so after some of responses you have made in this video. I could compromise on this by going for a Spectral:ON 7.0. The small frame is available with the 27.5/29 wheel mix, it is the same price as the Neuron:ON 7.0 but some of the components are downgraded to meet the price point. I like mostly trail riding with some technical elements thrown in, don't do high speed nor can I jump so the extra suspension range on the Spectral might be a waste. Which bike should I go for?

    • @sterpumihai
      @sterpumihai 5 лет назад

      My personal advice is to try to find both sizes of that bike and see how they fit you.
      I also ran into similar problems with Canyon's sizing charts and decided not to buy.
      I went for Haibike where I couldn't test the 2019 model but I did test the 2018 model which has exactly the same geometry (not even 1 mm difference on anything).
      Also, keep in mind that Canyon is great only if there is no problem with the bike. As soon as you need to return the bike for warranty repairs
      eplacements, the fun begins :) Just search for "canyon trustpilot" on google..

There is a good chance that I can get a small discount on it. Note to EMBN: no need to answer my question above as I won't be buying a Canyon eBike now. Also in My area (Kempten in Bavaria) There are some nice trails but im not riding them because im to Lazy with my normal Bike. Im riding street literally all the time because of this. I saved Up enough Money to buy a Spectral:ON 6.0.
    The Problem is im 14 Years old. Is it okay top buy one in My age? My Parents are okay with it.

    What difference is the same bike without a motor ? Is it worth thousands more for a motor ? Think these are rich man's bikes or pro use bikes only.

      Most likely he's using cheap replacements I have a 1000w ebike and have never stripped or worn out the gears 1100 happy miles later 👌👍

    I bought a cheap ebike off Amazon and upgraded everything now I have a great ebike better than a really expensive one for a fraction of the price and I didn't have to spend a ton of money I did all the work myself
