- Mattel had the chance to tell kids you can have a facial difference and be a role model, but instead they erased a big part of Helen Keller’s life. I wish toy companies created affirming dolls for disabled kids.

These are all valid points, but I still support the idea of the Inspiring Women line of dolls. They are a vast improvement over the dolls that were available when I was a kid, many, many years ago.
And I hope they continue improving!
I’m glad that you’re speaking about this. The thing is that at least national Federation for the blind was able to get involved with this project. Yes I agree with you they should’ve not made her eyes not look so perfect. They should at least put braille under the printed word eyebrow. As a blind woman I am glad that The blind community is getting a little bit of attention.
I love your comment. I would only substitute the word “perfect” with “symmetrical” otherwise it sounds as if having asymmetrical eyes is lesser than having symmetrical eyes. 🙂

You’re very kind to say that! I’ll keep advocating for underrepresented voices. Disabled people have a voice (in many ways) and it’s a matter of getting the world to listen.

Helen Keller would of probably looked nothing like the doll. She would have the distorted face that comes with birth defects. The doll is built to be beautiful because that is what sells and that is all Barbie inc. cares about.
I would think Barbie inc would spend a little to spell ‘brail’ in brail with the patterned beads on the book, no?

Hi Haben Girma! It’s Imagination Is Magic and I just wanted to say I think you’re beautiful, amazing , gorgeous woman as you are in your own way! I can see the beauty in your eyes, your heart and soul! I think you’re perfect and special in your own way the way you are! and I’m sorry about those kids at school when you’re younger, they were so mean to you and now these Adults telling you should wear dark glasses to cover your eyes?! I bet it really hurtful and it can be frustrating for you and I’m sorry that happened, I can see that your eyes are so beautiful and gorgeous! Don’t let them get to you, and sometimes It can be difficult and tough for other people! Also, I have a disability too and I know what it like to feel left out and I used a wheelchair and it can be hard to feel left out and not seen by other people, but I always knew that having a disability doesn’t define as who you are! You are a human being just like everyone else! I don’t care what people says about you or whoever! I love helping people with disabilities and I’m an advocate for people in Disabilities, They are very beautiful people on earth! I knew they are 100% perfect and beautiful in their own way! There’s nothing wrong with having a disability! You can’t control it, that’s part of who you are! There’s nothing wrong with you being different from others and that’s okay! Everybody is different in their own way! I really like Helen Keller too because I think she’s really inspiring and amazing person she was! I admire her for advocating for people in Disabilities and for blind and deaf people, personally I think that’s really smart of her because I know a lot of people need to know this and hear this out loud and sometimes people don’t understand it and sometimes people do! But it’s none of their business to know and nobody needs to know everything! and I think you’re amazing, beautiful, gorgeous and so kind woman in that face of the planet! I think you’re amazing and you are a miracle! don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not and yes you truly are, and you truly are beautiful, amazing person! I think you’re beautiful inside and out! I agree with you Haben. In this book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill which was written in the early 19 centuries, but was revised for 21 Century. Mr Hill says Helen Keller is dumb, but the author who revised the book does not provide a note that is not true. The people who print this book should correct that.
Authors should add clarifying language that terms like "deaf and dumb" are offensive to many people.
