I’ll say it again until I’m blue in the face - Timothy Dalton is the most underrated James Bond ever. He singlehandedly brought the character of Bond back to reality after the camp excesses and slapstick of the Roger Moore era, and gave us a dark, brooding interpretation in the process. The fact that he read the Fleming novels to get into character shows how committed he was to the role. Sadly, late 80’s audiences just weren’t ready for a realistic Bond and still favoured the clownish tropes of the Moore era. Were it not for the legal issues and lawsuit between the studios in the early 90’s, he could of done at least two more Bond movies.
Completely agree. The comments attached to this link: www.telegraph.co.uk/films/0/underrated-007-timothy-daltons-living-daylights-still-nastiest/ include an excellent one by Adam Bateman explaining exactly why it was that only TD brought Fleming's Bond to the screen.

Yeah Moore was a geriatric when that film came out and his glory days as Bond, which was the 70s, was over. Dalton should have taken over earlier, shame we only got him for two movies
Dalton was offered the role of bond in 1969's on her majesty's secret service but turned it down. He respected the character too much and when he took on the role of OO7, he came prepared out of all the actors. He's my favorite actor to play James Bond.
Connery IS Bond. But Dalton is very credible. Way better than cheesy Roger Moore or snarky Brosnan, who I never bought. I like Daniel Craig's version of Bond as a more serious spy but exuding legitamite toughness. Dalton had that as well. I would put Licence to Kill in my top 5 Bond films with Goldfinger, From Russia. With Love, Thunderball and Craig's debut in Casino Royale. You can flush the Brosnan and Moore pictures down the loo. They can and are entertaining but neither of those guys struck me as a convincing Bond. Lazenby was not really an actor but his one outing was actually pretty good. Telly as the villain and Diana Rigg as his lady helped a lot.
Timothy Dalton is the most serious Bond from all of them, and he definetely deserved to be in A view to a kill. This picture will get a strong upgrade with him
This was Ian Flemings version, bond was meant to be how Timothy played him, imagine goldeneye it would end up different, Timothy Dalton version would not let 006 die at any cost
Too much of that campy crap from the Moore days....the crowd wasn't ready. But at least now many are realizing what Dalton did...he saved the series. Craig got it to live again in Royale after Brosnan went surfing in north korea...just...dear God

Sort of did. Listen, two months ago during night rest sleep, I dreamt about watching 1984 Dalton Goldeneye. He had a moustache during the entire movie.
Timothy Dalton is my favourite bond, if he went on too do 5 movies or so, he would have been the best, the best actor to take on the role, looks the part both of his bond movies are among the best of all the bonds, his first bond should have been avtak, that movie was made for him, oh well at least he made two very good bond movies , good on ya Tim.
Rewrite AVTAK and it would of been perfect for Dalton. The exchanges between he and Walken would of been something to see. But IMHO, he should of started with For Your Eyes Only. It’s stripped back and realistic approach would of suited him. Take out Bibi Dahl, find a better Kristatos and dump the parrot and Thatcher scene and you would of had a great debut for Dalton 😎
Tim was a proper Bond, along with Sean, they were the only 2 actors whoever cracked the role. Roger was decent for the time, but did three too many, Craig and Brosnon didn’t understand the role, and Lazenby was a mere novelty. But Dalton and Connery were the best.
After the end of comedy-parody era with the right man Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton - must play in ''A View To a Kill'' - was the right man at the right time. But he was unlucky, because he came to the end of the Cold War (a basic theme in the Bond films script) and in the years 1990-1994 without a Bond movie.
This song actually suits Timothy Dalton better IMO. Feels like a counterpart to The Living Daylights. A break with the traditional bond ballads for some slightly edgier and modern (at the time) synth pop. It always felt kinda weird having this music play and then old man Roger Moore come on screen. Though John Barry's orchestral versions of it in the score are lush.

Definitely my favorite Bond. I just wish the stakes were higher in his films. Neither film involved global threats that only Bond could save us all from. They were both ultimately The War on Drugs stories. Certainly appropriate for the decade, but easily some of the weakest villains. Though I do love “License to Kill” for showing what happens when you cross Bond and make it personal.

Timothy Dalton's portrayal of Bond is dark with a some vulnerability . He is capable and ruthless and one look at him tells you he would kill you if he wanted. Timothy Dalton was almost a perfect representation of Fleming's description of Bond and way underrated.
The way he puts on Moneypenny's glasses...swoon💘
The best Bond of all, the most faithful to that of Ian Fleming, despised and ahead of his time.
I love Timothy Dalton's James Bond. Not only was he a hardened assasin; he was the most human of the 6 actors to play 007.
If Brosnan is a man, then Dalton is a real man.
