I created a restore point and I dont get the blue screen of death so often. Soon as I download the updates, crashes with in 5 to 10 minutes. Can my laptop still function properly without putting those stupid updates on it? Why did the updates mess everything up all the time? This has always been my problem with every computer I've owned.

It should be said that a third-party anti-virus will stop system restore from working. In that case, you will need to do it offline.
