  • Tver is a city in Russia, an administrative center of the Tver region and the Kalininsky district, which is not included, being an administrative and territorial unit of a city of regional importance, which forms the city of Tver, the city of the same name.
    It is located on the banks of the Volga River in the region where the rivers Tvertsy and Tymaki fall into it, 177.6 km north-west of Moscow.
    Tver was founded in 1135 on the arrow of the Tymaki River. Since 1247 - the center of the Tver principality; during the Mongol-Tatar yoke became one of the centers of resistance (a major uprising in 1327) and competed with Moscow for the role of the political center of North-Eastern Russia; from 1485 - as part of the Moscow State (later - Russia). From 1796 to 1929 - the center of the Tver province, and since 1935 - the administrative center of the Kalinin region (after 1990 - the Tver region). From October to December 1941, the city was occupied by German troops, badly damaged during the occupation and hostilities, was subsequently restored. In 1971 he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. November 4, 2010 awarded the honorary title of "City of Military Glory."
    Tver is a large industrial, scientific and cultural center, a major transportation hub at the intersection of the St. Petersburg-Moscow railway line and the Rossiya highway with the Upper Volga. The area of ​​the city is 152.22 km², the city is divided into 4 administrative districts (Zavolzhsky, Moscow, Proletarsky, Central). The population is 419,507 people (2017).
    City government is represented by the Tver City Duma (consisting of 33 deputies), the head of the city, elected from among the deputies of the city Duma, and the city administration.
