I’m an avid one piece, manga reader and I’m so hyped for it, but my boyfriend is an anime only. Hes still in whole cake island. He’s almost equally hyped.
Before I even watched the episode my boyfriend looked at me and said “you know one piece is breaking the internet right? I watched the fight between Kaido and Luffy and it is AMAZING”
Roger, the only reactor who picked up the film grain, bloom and halation of the animation utilizing the old film print heads used back in the day!!
I'm looking all over X and instagram and everbody is just hating so much on it, i don't understand it at all... imo this episode was so nice introducing us to Gear 5!! Can't wait for the upcoming fight episode

Apparently not a lot of people like it. But don’t understand that this is luffy. This isn’t any other protag this is a guy that craves freedom and fun with his friends above all else. Hes joy incarnate and his powers are definitely cartoonish but thats how its supposed to be. I loved every bit of the episode and wish they continue it but I also wish fans appreciated it more

I would cringe every time I'd see a fanart speculating what Gear 5 was gonna be like, and it would be Luffy covered in Haki and looking all gloomy and serious. I'm so glad that what we got couldn't be farther from that.

Ive been an Oden fanboy since he was being teased but seeing the Oden story summarized next to the gear 5 reveal really makes the parallels between him and joyboy/nika stand out. Like, just the choice of words Hiyori was using about Oden and how the gorosei talked about the Nika fruit were practically 1 / 1. The dude truly was a joyboy.
This was a perfect representation of one piece as a whole . It had emotion because of Hiyori, political intrigue because of the Gorosei , and it’s Goofy as all hell.
I am 100% sure hiyori knew about nika and she set everything up, she manipulated zoro and gave him enma so he can beat king cause king would be x factor that will merk everyone if he lived.
I’ve never smiled as much as I did tonight watching a one piece episode, to see it go from the manga to the anime was truly a moment I’ll never forget as long as I live ‼️😭

I love the smile on Rodger’s face this whole reaction, I had the exact same smile the whole time. I think gear 5 won’t be iconic just because of the animation, but how the animation and goofiness makes people feel when they watch it. I felt like a kid watching cartoons on Saturday morning all over again, what a great episode.
It's funny really, the power of the sun god Nika was used to bring smiles to people, and here Luffy is, with the sun god devil friut, making us smile throughout the entire series
Same for me, it's like i'm back to my younger days watching tom and jerry. Pure happiness and goofiness.

Yeah, there's alot of good frames which you'll only pick up if you pause the episode repeatedly, which is exactly the problem, because for the common viewer it's way harder to catch on with what the episode is portraying.
Shout out to the amazing ost in the Ep. Also giving G5 that silhouette just added so much more menace to the form. It’s like seeing a child being given too much power and letting their imagination go wild.
This will go down as one of the most monumental moments in media period. So glad I could experience this with this amazing community. Roger thank you for getting me into One Piece by stumbling across your episode 1015 reaction by chance. This is the year of One Piece!

I LOVED this episode, every single second of gear 5 was AMAZING, I didn't even mind the repeat animation. They did an amazing job with the fight. I've never been hyped and laughing from a hit as hard as I was from specifically the rebound of the blast breath. Every aspect of the cartoon aspect was done to perfection to me. The music was 10/10 and the sound effects were perfect. Then that montage of the gears with all the colors! I was watching it completely by myself and my reaction was very similar! So glad Roger's was the first reaction I saw to it too!
Episode enough to make someone laugh with a smile on their face, and it lowkey feels like thats the target, to be excited and to be thrilled

I think my favorite moment is when Luffy sends that blast breath back at Kaido and we see Kaido been charred black and then he exhales black smoke, like from old cartoons. Makes me laugh every time. And Luffy clapping his feet. I was hoping for the William Hanna Tom-scream though. Maybe next episode when Kaido starts doing some damage back.

Director Nagamine did a fantastic job of representing the cartoony elements and change of styles well still providing special effects and modern visuals to emphasis luffy's new form with such dramatics. The animation felt very Free which coincides with the style and art of this episode and the story surrounding sun god nika. Shout out to Tanaka Mayumi for delivering such a chilling but also outstanding performance for luffy's iconic Gear 5 laugh. I can feel the dopamine levels rising to their PEAK! after watching this God Tier episode.

You get all kinds of audiences reacting to it, including the trolls and probably even non-OP fans who don't even read the manga or watch the anime. I shudder at the mere thought of what the identity of "one piece" will bring. Sure, there will be ALOT of readers and OP fans that have been waiting for the biggest secret in the story, but with that also comes people that will hate it for being too popular and people that are going to shit talk. It’s up to us to discern who is providing valid criticism and who is just bashing it because they want to tip the world on its side.

The only problem with the animation (which i think is the biggest problem with the new animation) is that there's too much close up shots and camera movements and too many camera cuts. I could not see what gear 5 luffy was doing in their fight. There were shots that were supposed to be clearer and longer like the cartoonish reaction of luffy's eyes popping out and the ground bouncing off the fireball. That was so confusing.
Yeah if I didn’t already read the manga I would have no idea what is actually going on.
i agree i feel like if they cut some of the reused animation and flashbacks and used the time to do this same scene but slower it wouldve been 100x better. If i didnt read the manga id have no clue what was happening.
What an incredible episode! I laughed, I got emotional, I had fun. I love Luffy, I love One Piece.
They understood the assignment and made Gear 5 so goofy and just fun. Great episode.
9/10 episode for me! I love Luffy’s psychotic laugh and the sound effects they used for gear 5.
My only complaint was the Hiyori scene taking you out of the moment and the fight animations happened too fast for me to fully appreciate them.

Don't blame the Animators they following what's in the Manga Chapter that they adapt in the Anime.

@@cyruss9455 nah they deliberately made that scene long don't forget the unnecessary recaps and flashbacks also luffy jumping sequence was used 3 times it's like they wanted to stretch this episode so they can milk this fight like they have been doing in past. This episode had like 5 minutes of actual content in it.

Luffy fighting Kaido to the remix of Overtaken was absolutely the highlight for me
To me, the crazy experimental animation made the Hiyori scene work even more, the calm reassurance that the waiting of the suffering was worth it makes Luffys last stand even more joyous to me.

I also did notice the film grain on the episode. They really turned that slider up to max in post, and I think it worked very well.
Luffy’s awakening gives me that feeling like they took a character from a different show or genre and plopped him into One Piece. He felt sort of alien. It was almost like watching a different show, but I don’t mean that necessarily in a bad way. I think in one way it helps highlight how otherworldly and “ridiculous” Luffy’s power is. So ridiculous to the point it even seems to be able to in a way change the very nature of the show he is in. It’s as if it makes him look the most abnormal in his own universe, like he belongs in some other realm, and yet at the same time in some ironic or poetic sorta way he is the one to bring people together.
That’s because Nika aka the Sun God can manipulate reality, so he basically turn everything he touches into cartoons

I smilled so much my face STILL hurts, god this episode was everything to me. I've never laughed out of so much joy, Luffy definitely deserves the name "Joyboy". 🎉🎉 Mayumi's "MUKI MUKIII" was so incredible, she was having so much fun 😂😂
7/10 episode for me. Still doesn’t top episode 1015 in my opinion. Too many reused scenes especially flashbacks and the hiyori scene really took away from the moment. Another issue was how fast the animation was for when luffy pulled up the ground, if you didn’t read the manga it would be hard to know exactly what happened in that scene. I feel they could have done a lot better. The sounds effects however were top notch. I’m hopeful for next episode tho.
i feel like the hiyori scene was done so that they could go back to the start of the animation and bog it down even more. It was a good episode,but i'm honestly glad i switched to the manga in wano. This would have probably made me hype but also insane.

Personally, I wish the camera movement when Luffy bounces the blast breath back wasn’t so erratic. It made it hard to follow the zany animation.
Hiyori's revenge being here is so good, and thematically appropriate for Luffy's Awakening. She's playing the song Moon Princess and he's the Sun God. She talks about how Oden kept his promise to Orochi to dance, while Luffy is keeping his promise to Wano that he will beat up Kaido while dancing frantically because of Gear 5's energy. And the frame of Hiyori taking off her mask and crying while being mad as hell looks so fierce. The story deliberately draws a parallel between Kaido and Orochi's respective downfalls, the whole point is that both of them are the main villains of Wano, and both of them go down at the same time, Kaido spectacularly and Orochi miserably.
Another milestone reached in the One Piece World. Amazing Episode!

I’ve never seen a manga’s chapters so outdone by the anime in my life, truly incredible and so happy I was able to catch up in time
The thing I found fascinating about the reveals of this episode as an anime only watcher is...Chopper's Point system and Luffy's Gear system are so similar in principle because their fruits are the same, albeit with vast differences in power due to one being a base, and the other being a mythical model. Got me thinking of the various "modes" other Zoans have throughout the series and made me feel like the signs were there all along. It was my The Sixth Sense "oh crap" moment as I was watching.

We got to be honest, these last few weeks have been huge: Sakurai teases the next Smash Brothers, Next Week's Pokemon Anime seems to be another Terapagos reveal, Pokemon Presents on Tuesday, the real start of the Gear 5 assault post reveal, World's is next week too... it's been nuts, going to be nuts!
Oden played himself a fool for years and fought for his people so that he could protect them from slavery. Wano hasn't been free in decades and I think the Hiyori and Orochi scene fits perfectly with Gear 5 being the Warrior of Liberation and the one to truly free Wano. It fits thematically very well and I understand people just wanting hype, but I like the direction Oda took by putting this in there.
Honestly the ED had me balling my eyes out it was so beautiful!! 😭
