6:41 yes correct, while doing pre-wash - always rinse from down to the top - because you do not wash up the prewash product. I'm talking about pre-wash not pre-rinse. Pre wash use some APC, etc etc etc etc

    • @ChemX
      @ChemX  Год назад +2

Yeah I like to rinse top down on heavy dirt knockdowns and on hand washes, the only time I do bottom up is during a touchless wash since the power washer is what’s cleaning the surface in that process, and I miss a spot if I don’t have the foam to gauge where I’ve been, missed spots don’t usually show up until dry

For cleaning the pads out during buffing you should use your air compressor and blow it out of the pad. Just make sure you are away from the vehicle and have very good ventilation. Turn the buffer on and let the pad spin while you blast it with air between panels. (i.e. every time you lift the pad to go to the next area.)

Congratulations! As far as claying goes, here’s my knowledge and opinion on what works for me on the cars I work on. It’s fairly long but good information to know.
    1) The clay bar is a more aggressive step that will leave light scratching on the surface, needing to be polished after, whereas the mitt, if used with proper lubrication, will not need polished after. This is because the clay bar contains light abrasives to help remove contamination, and the synthetic mitt does not.
    2) I personally use a perforated synthetic clay surface like your mitt. The most important thing with that is to use no pressure. It actually works better with less pressure, as counterintuitive as that may seem. I’d suggest with the mitt to place your hand on top of it, instead of inside, as you will create less pressure points with thicker padding between your hand and the surface.
    3) As far as lubrication with the synthetic clay, I like to use an iron remover. The best way to do this in my opinion is to first wash the car, and while the soap is still on the car, do a spray of iron remover on the clay mitt and a spray on the panel, making sure to rinse the mitt in a soapy bucket between panels. A lot of people believe that an iron remover removes the iron particles; in reality, they remove the rust staining caused by the iron particle, not the particle itself. Keep in mind that not all iron removers work as a clay lube with all clay media, as some iron removers are diluted with a solvent that will damage the clay surface. Usually the high quality iron removers work well, but the only way to be sure is to test for yourself or find a combination that other people have had good results with.

As you said you didn't know what you were doing! The one thing I always appreciate in regards to your videos is your honesty....
It's super important to real so people get what you are trying to convey in your videos / vlogs.
I also noticed that you were just as honest in your customer reviews and one of the things I noticed with some of your lower ratings is that you state very clearly with your touchless product(s) is that you will need to put hands on!
I have yet to come across ANY product that is truly touchless.
I have owned many, many vehicles from older Camaros to my last big purchase for a new 389 Peterbilt and just recently a new Mustang GT.
I am contemplating purchasing your products in order to reduce the amount of labor I need to wash my many cars (I have sold my trucking company). If anyone owns a Mustang they can probably relate to the paint issues that unfortunately Ford has been struggling with for their cars. They have amazing colors but adhesion has always been an issue and they don't hold up very well. So the least amount of actual manual scrubbing you perform on the paint is better for your paint job as it will impart less scratches which in the end is truly what you want when purchasing a "touchless product".
It's all about removing the big bits so that you don't move them around on your paint while washing it.
Your paint will always require some maintenance and waxing it's just what you need to do, it's inevitable!
I will be looking into purchasing your double foam cannon and mezzo stars and stripes in the near future when my finances are just a little bit better.
I hope you are doing well and good luck with your business. I have been watching your product videos on and off for a while now and would really like to sample them as soon as I can.
    Be well!

Maybe my new favorite video of yours tbh. One tid bit of info on the claying, a clay bar definitely is better for picking up those bigger pieces, however you *should* have used an iron decon spray after your contact wash and rinse, and then clay barred / mitt and then the polish stage. The iron remover spray (I use adams iron, and carpro IronX, Sonax Iron Fallout remove) would remove those big chunks and dissolve them ahead of your clay bar stage. Either way, loved this video!

@@ChemX I also use a 25 degree tip when doing my pre wash and any early rinsing and on the wheels. For the final rinse I switch to the 40 degree. I just figure I get a little more focused power to remove the dirt early on with the 25 and the 40 helps to get the final rinse done quicker. Might be bullshit but makes sense in my head.

30:40 Tip from someone who had piano black paint that halo'd if someone on pluto sneezes.... that's how they come but I've found using it like that just wastes clay. Tear a piece off enough to make like a ping pong sized ball in your hand - smash it into a pancake and make sure it's big enough that you can hold it positively - It doesn't need to be that big thick brick. If you need to make it bigger, add more clay. This is important because you don't want to drop it, or it's as good as trash (so keeping the rest of it pristine is a good CYA) because it will score up your paint and cause haloing and other nasty artifacts in the finish (your Jeep's color tends to be very forgiving though and... it's a Jeep. 😁). Make sure to store it in its packaging or a small tupperware to keep it dust free and safe. Use it exactly like you are, back and forth and keep it constantly lubricated. Occasionally check it for contaminant build up and kneed it together (like you said) again to expose fresh clay as needed.
Usually one of those bars is enough to do 50-80 clays (maybe more depending on contamination). Using the whole bar is generally just a waste, when you can keep a super fresh one to keep from contaminating less contaminated or other vehicles. I love your videos and products. Keep up the good work!

Don't forget to prime (add compound to the pad then rub it into the pad with your fingers) the polishing pad before you begin to use (then you wont have to spread the compound around as much). And a free cleaner for the pads....your air compressor. Just spin the polisher and blow the pad out.

Suggestions; use a iron remover b4 claying to break down the particles as far as possible and rinse them off before claying. Do this to prevent (best as possible) pick up some of the iron and dragging it along the surface also clay with as much lube and little pressure as possible moving down the panel not across. If you have some heavier polishing that needs to happen look into a forced rotation DA polisher such as flex (harbor freight also just came out with one) so you have the power of rotary with having to worry about holograms and swirls

To clean out your polishing pads, just use a compressed air blow gun
Run the unit on the lowest speed, and blow all the used polish and junk out
Do it in a trash can or a box, it can get messy

@@ChemX Not sure if you've done a walk-around on the Jeep, but just caught your video and couldn't decide what I was more interested in - the detailing!! or the gear on your Mojave!!! If you haven't released a walk-through on your gear, would be really interested in a list of your gear. At the very least, what is the rack system? Lastly, I know it was a year ago - but congratulations on the engagement and wedding? if that's happened? :) Take care!

Looks like a fun detail and congrats on the engagement. I think in the future if you are in the same situation you could do Griots Fast Correcting Creme on a Rupes blue pad for the correction and the polish depends on the hardness of the paint. I usually find the Rupes Yellow Foam pad and Perfect finish work well. Harder Clearcoat Rupes Yellow Wool and Softer Clearcoat Rupes White Foam. Only time I use Yellow pad and Perfect finish first is on new cars. AMMONYC has a great detailing academy on YT. I think you did an awesome job but who cares what I have to say lol.
