    Great video! A quick tip for anyone about to do this is to buy an uncut polarizer so you can rotate the film to get the exact shade of green rather, then cut it. I find this ends up looking nicer than the shade that comes from a separate factory

    you make really good videos and at nice quality. I wonder why you only have 300 subscribers.

      Thanks for the kind word! It's a pretty new channel, and there's a lot of other really good channels that cover the same topics. Maybe someday though this channel will grow much larger!

    where did you buy the new polarizer? also, do you know if by default all the polarizers out there have glue on them? because I want to repair a DMG Gameboy but I'm not sure of where to get a polarizer with glue on it
    btw, awesome video, keep up with the good work

      @@TheBrokenPast Yea I have a bubble on the screen think its from one of the back layers. I may need to do the back lit mod should fix it. I see the bubble on the rear white reflective layer I found out as a quick test you can clean and reuse the old polarizer. Sure you should get a new one but I dont have mine yet and just wanted to do a test run after cleaning all the glue off

    I'm confused. Looks like you applied a polarizer to the glass and then set an additional one with no adhesive in the front half where the screen sits. So, two polarizers? Maybe I just missed where you didn't end up using the one you stuck to the screen?

      Yes, this is how the LCD works, one polarizer on the back one on the front, in order to properly polarize the light

    Thanks for the video man! Now I can finally fix the burnt polarizer on my GameBoy Pocket.

    • @TheBrokenPast
      @TheBrokenPast  5 лет назад +3

      Do it!
      It's a pretty easy repair. Just a bit of time and elbow grease to get all the old glue off (which sometimes comes off pretty easily too; it just depends on the luck of the draw!).

      And yep, today's the 30th anniversary of the release of the Gameboy in Japan. I'm going to be a few days late in getting the video out (boo!), but I'm working on a backlight / bivert video tonight on the Gameboy I refurbed a few weeks ago. It's going to be awesome!

      Yes the polariser they replace the pocket with is completely different to the one it comes with

  • @MitchKarajohn

    Ok, do you have any tips on how to install the front polarizer without creating any bubbles?
    I wasted all 3 I ordered, and now I have to order more. Best I managed was 1 bubble, that after I squashed it with a plastic card it left a round mark anyway.

    What if the polarizer doesn't come with glue, what kind of glue should I use?

    • @TheBrokenPast
      @TheBrokenPast  4 года назад +2

      That's a great question. Mine didn't come with any adhesive either. I didn't use any. I just let pressure hold it into place against the screen.

    I'm trying to replace the polarizer on a Gameboy Color. Now I was able to remove the thick sheet which I think is the polarizer but it looks like it has more layers. Do I need to remove everything down until I reach the glass? At first I thought I see the glue residue but it's just this weird material, really brittle, I can scratch it with my finger and it's sparking in hard light. Did I ruin the screen yet? Also, the ribbon cable has some corrosion so 4 or the contacts doesn't have continuity but I have 3 more Gameboy Colors with burnt polarizer so I want to hone my skill on this one even if it's already a dead LCD.

    Just a quick question. When you put the polarizer on the screen and tested it everything looked good. After you cleaned and reassembled it you put another piece in before you put the screen down. What was that ??

    Looks like the board has some cap-juice on it (the yellow stuff on the bottom on the solder points)... if you care of your GameBoy, please replace your capacitors and thoroughly clean your board! That stuff is literally pure liquid evil for electronics; it will eat away the board and traces rendering it useless.

    • @aenigmaticus_ca
      @aenigmaticus_ca 5 лет назад +2

      A soft toothbrush and 99% isopropyl alcohol will clean it up easily; give it a couple passes then air-dry it.

    • @aenigmaticus_ca
      @aenigmaticus_ca 5 лет назад +1

      ~12:00 Okay, thanks for cleaning your board... but please note, the capacitors are leaking, and needs replacement to avoid permanent damage.
