That's the utter beauty of the Ransomes mower. Even the most basic models come with grease nipples everywhere to allow you to lubricate everything easily. Unlike Webb's and some Suffolk's that require daily oil drippers.
These machines were built when men were men, sheep were nervous and we had an empire! Cue Mick's finest Winston Churchill impression.......
Keep up the good work my good man!
Lol.. best comment yet
She beautiful. Great job on restoring it.
Ta mate
Great refurb bring that mower back to life, Love the sound of those old motors.
Thanks mate
You have done a great job on her ,🇬🇧
Hi Mick, I have just managed to get my Ransomes Marquis running in the last couple of days and there is no way I could have done this without the help of all your videos. I have never refurbished anything beyond a bike before and this is my first venture in engines and the like. After reconditioning the engine next step is to get it painted and stop that starter coil rattling! I didn't want to paint it unless I could get the engine running, onwards and upwards thanks again - your enthusiasm and passion is a joy.
Cool.. I still have mine in the spare shed somewhere lol I will be getting it out again this summer after sitting for 3 years... So keep an eye out for it .. ta for watching mate
Nice job Mick, its good to see people appreciating these old Ransomes mowers for what they are and that is English engineering at it's finest! I think you have seen my restoration of a 1960's Auto Certes on you tube because you answered some questions in the comment section. Keep on mowing! I will soon be doing a video on a Certes Mk 10 push mower restoration which should be up in a few weeks time.
Hi mate cool I will keep an eye out for it.. I have another 2 Ransomes in and a 17 inch Suffolk punch
Absolutely brilliant, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the restoration of a fabulous little mower.
Well Matt thanks very much.. oh just so you know I have picked up another 2 I really don't know what I was thinking lol
@@themowerman You're welcome, I look forward to seeing those videos as well.

well done mick a vintage mower bought back to life
Yeah mate she's a runner and all done
Excellent job well done 👍👍👍
Thanks
Just picked up a beautiful Marquis M4A at an estate sale in Kansas City. The owner purchased the mower in Belgium in 1968 and then moved to the states shortly thereafter. He found that the mower severely scalped his Kansas grass so he put the machine in storage where it's been since 1970. Only used less than two seasons in 50+ years.
@@cattmann1405 wow.. sounds good
Great work mick was worth all the hours an money you put into it. 👍

Mick, I'll be honest when it started the first pull 2 words came to mind "SIMPLY AMAZING". It's not amazing because of the machine but because of the mechanic. Good job Mick.

Look awesome you did awesome job on it
You done an amazing job mick I bet you was buzzing when it fired up on first pull well done mick
Near lost it when it started first pull
I use modern motorcycle chain lube on the chains. Works just fine and is very sticky
The Marquis Mk4 came with an oil gun as part of it's tool kit and the original operator instructions say that oil should be applied to all the nipples. I bought my early Marquis about 25 years ago from an elderly gentlemen in the village who had owned it from new. It came complete with tools and manual. It has always been oiled and not greased. I had to buy another oiler though because the toolkit one was the worse for wear and most of the oil ended up on the floor without getting past the nipple ball bearing. I now use a wanner 300-1 oil gun and it is perfect for the job. A couple of shots every now and then not only oils, but flushes out any accumulated muck. The land rollers haven't been off in 22 years and they still run freely and "tick" like new.
Fantastic.. I must get mine out again soon..
Well done!
Ta Les.. looks the part hey
@@themowerman Love the old style mowers but it takes a bit of knowledge to keep them working!
@@sallyhobbit1956 yeah I'm no expert.. it's been a knowledge test on the way
The final restoration looks mint 👌 enjoyed watching from start to finish well done keep up the good work mate 👍
FANTASTIC! It looks and runs GREAT! Job well done, Brother.
Hello to the Mrs. and Riley Boy.

Cracking job mate.
Thanks Pete for the advice on doing this old girl
Tried to lend a ear mate . Fair play to you great job.
awesome.. I don't see mowers like that at all. :O
Old England mate
I have seen few times push mowers similar to that but not engine powered ones.. that's really cool :)
@@EstonianScrapper yeah and very well made
Wow how diffrent does that look mick brill job
Yeah looks the part hey
@@themowerman defo mick brill job sets it of..
Hail Britannia indeed! That's a reel man's mower. Well Done you. By the way, you shouldn't do things like that to old people. Luckily I managed to get a grip just before I PMS. Just.
Oh, you may want to try some Castrol motorcycle chain lube. One application lasts a whole season on a Triumph Daytona drive chain. Good stuff, spray it on a clean chain, let it dry over night, done for the season....
Ok I will have a look for a tin..lol get a grip lol too funny
Arise Sir Mick 🗜, and what a gargantuan project to take on. She idles like granny’s Teas-made , what a beautiful piece of engineering with those bespoke real wood rollers and Red cylinder. Whether you keep her as an advertisement for your channel or you sell her to some lucky punter with a really top notch lawn which she deserves . By the way my dad used to swear by Duckhams oils which he put in his brass piston oil can and used it for everything on his Suffolk Punch and the tortuous push Qualcast Panther. One of the most rewarding videos I will see this year on RUclips👍 Tam.
Tam you rock thanks for the fantastic comment. I have a punch in the shed.. that will be coming out soon for a restore.. if I can get it to run.. stay safe mate
Micks Mowers And you Sir 👍Tam.
Wow that came out very well Mick nice Job !!
Looks the part Jeff.
Well done mick that machine is brilliant great work. 👍
Ta very much
Looks and sounds sweet 👌
Thanks Gary lad.. l
Boy that turned out well.
Nice job, too bad the grass isn’t cooperating.
Hi Riley Boy.
Yeah my lawn is bad
Need a rolling seat next mick lol
Yeah that would be good.. I have two for my other vintage cylinder mowers
It sounds like the African Queen and that what am calling mine lol
Have you got yours running?
Amazing job Please may I ask where did you get the paint from and what RAL number is it ? I have two Ransomes a MK3 and a MK5 to restore and 4 x Atco cylinders to do from a B14 up to a 30 cylinder. Not to sell but to keep and use on peoples gardens. I only started getting interested in these amazing machines last year . Rest of my tools are MTD and Stihl . An old gent in my village Stuart was on Gardeners World for his lawn and he uses a Ransomes MK3 and that's how it started with these great machines. Once again amazing shows it can be done. Thank you for inspiring me.
Smith and Alan Just seen this comment. RUclips are not sending them to me for some reason.. I can only apologise
Excellent Mick. And the colour is spot on. I’ve the same mower but with a villiers engine from Wolverhampton. It has a little rust in the tank- did you clean yours out with some petrol and bolts? Also where did you find the new stickers as mine had lost his.
My engine cover is bright red and the engine is more square than this one.
Thanks for a wonderful extended project. Lee
You can use some anti rust treatment and with some nuts and bolts clean the tank.. you can get the stickers off eBay mate
Wonderfuul ! could you advice a webshop where I can purchase spare parts for my Marquis?
Thanks !
eBay ..
Hi Mick, can I ask where you got the replacement exhaust for the F12 engine please. I have one on a Hayter mower that could do with replacing. Thank you, Steve.
I should have remembered....
How about motorbike chain Lube ? Hi Mick hope ya all good, get some watter on the lawn Mick It's your test track .... needs to be the same quality as your work.....a good job for Riley Boy ? and might be fun ?
Will get him on it mate
@@themowerman good man.... great job with the mower some old school toff will tip up a couple of grand for that classic!
I LOVE THESE ENGINE . AND SOUNDS VERY NICE TOO .HOW MUCH DID IT COST TO GET THE CYLINDER SHARPEN . ? THEY ARE THE VERY BEST VINTAGE MOWER OUT THERE .
£40 to get it done.. yes it's a lovely mower
@@themowerman WHERE I LIVE TO GET A CYLINDER SHARPEN IS OVER £100 OR MORE FOR A 12" CUT CYLINDER .
Hi bud cracking stuff , where’s a good place in Hertfordshire or North London, because I’m trying to fix a similar type of one it just won’t turn over it takes about 1 million pulls but it’s a start and run
I have no idea mate. I’m on the south coast
@@themowerman no worries 😉, I think it’s the pulley, There is a lot of slack on it and I will try to tighten it hopefully that will help a turnover better 🤞
