    actually in Thailand, University dressing has rules for both males and female including length of skirt. Even though now the rule is now relaxed, Thai culture is still concerned about the safety and sexual harassment/crime. So we are encouraged to dress as appropriate event and respect.

    Love that my two favs were their two least favorites. Idk if it was the culture differences that influenced priorities, but with the Chinese one, I love it bc it's all about comfort and it's easy to maintain. I like the Vietnam one bc it ain't revealing and annoying to wear (like I ain't wearing no f-ing skirt especially in the cold 😂). While dresses are a bit annoying to wear that didn't fully look like a dress. Looked like a 2 piece tho I may be wrong. While the I can see how the color would be annoying to wash and how it's easy to stain but most people have washing machines and dryers in the US so I don't have to worry about the annoyance of handwashing and air drying

      @Kathleen @Unknown Putting aside the main adult perspective/goal from schools and society in Asia of attempting to make everyone look the same in order to promote equality and not have people stand out (something which by many other adults, especially from other countries, would be considered too restrictive and suppressive), for the students themselves, it's quite different. I have worked as a middle school teacher, and I have also lived in Japan (though I haven't worked as a teacher there). For a lot of students, both male and female, the middle school and high school years are: 1. An important time to have fun, and 2. An important time for romance. Thus, looking decent is important to them. Many Japanese school girls in particular are well known to shorten their skirts beyond what is allowed by the school rules (there are several videos about it on RUclips, where they interviewed random girls on the street, both students and adults, and this is something that was brought up a lot), and many of them don't even do it to attract boys, but just because they want to look cute among their peers. Some even apply for high schools based on how cute said school's uniforms are. Uniforms that look like gym clothes would be unthinkable to them, and being forced to wear them all the time like in China would be seen by them as nothing short of punishment. And of course, after becoming adults, many of these people look back and wouldn't have changed a thing when it comes to this particular subject, in fact most of the adults interviewed complained of restrictive rules (Japan has a lot of schools, especially private schools, with some truly absurd rules that would be unthinkable in the west). The two of you might prefer to focus on comfort, and maybe you didn't much care about romance and/or didn't want to stand out in your teen years, and I'm sure lots of other students and teens (especially introverts) would think the same, but you need to recognize that for a LOT of other students and teens, it is not like that AT ALL. For them it's all about looking good. Both in countries with uniforms, and in countries where they aren't even a thing, like in mine.

    I don't get it why Koreans think female school uniforms have to be short, tight to look sexy, attractive and provocative? This is not supposed to be the primary purpose of creating a school uniform for students in the schools. Wearing school uniforms is not meant to be fashionable and provocative. You can create a provocative school uniform for adults but not for actual students. I really don't understand the mindset of Korean in this case.
    Being pretty is acceptable but it has to be limited to a certain threshold because you shouldn't forget why you are wearing school uniforms for which purpose.

      @@Haegemon That's their standard and I can understand it. But what I'm talking about is "school uniforms". I don't know how many female adults and students do truly understand why "school uniforms" are created in the first place for which purpose and why do you go to schools? If they truly understand the purpose of those, they shouldn't say that the shorter and tighter the skirts of uniforms for students, the better. If they don't try to understand the purpose or ignore the purpose, their main focus is going to be more sexy, provocative for uniforms to be able to fit in the fashion standard of adults. Outside of schools, they can wear whatever they want. But for school uniforms, they should at least respect the purpose and value of the uniform in the first place.

    • @aquariuscaesar2858
      @aquariuscaesar2858 Год назад +8

      @@Haegemon I'm wondering that most Koreans, both female adult and students, nowadays think that school uniforms for female have to be fit in the mainstream fashion standards for adults. People who understand and value the purpose of school uniforms will understand what I mean.
      I understand Korean fashion standards. I believe that I've said everything I wanna say about this thing in my previous comments.
      If you don't get the main point, I'll highlight here. The main thing is school uniforms have purpose, school uniforms are designed for students, school uniforms are not designed to be fashionable like adult fashion.
      You can make school uniforms to be fashionable, sexy, provocative for adults. But for actual students, if you do this, you are literally destroying the purpose of school uniforms.
      As a young adult living in Asia like Koreans, my mindset is more or less similar to how Asians or Koreans think. There's no prejudice because I'm an Asian.

    Personally, i don't like how people has started to normalise uniform as a fashion trends or liking the thought of wearing such short skirts in the educational environment. I am not pin pointing to any country in particular, however, having to wear such clothes and finding comfortable in uncomfortable clothes is just so disturbing. I hope people give their priorities in education rather than styling all up to look pretty and sexy in a place of learning. Youngsters must know that being pretty is not everything but having a good mindset to learn and acknowledge the time when parents are working hard to pay off their fees. Because as you grow older, many people regrets how they were sway by the societies when all along they've chosen to take part in it.

Well, provoking a person will lead to school fight which can be a form of bullying. Very interesting, my fav would a mix of Korean and Japanese. Europe and North America don’t have uniforms, and in Europe there’s not even dress codes (which I know the USA does have). I’m actually pro this individuality and freedom, especially during later school years, as it helps students express themselves and fashion is a very big part of self expression and identity. I’m hoping that school uniforms in Korea and Japan are soon lifted too, at least for high school since this is when kids start to learn more about themselves and self expression

    • @kentvesser9484
      @kentvesser9484 Год назад +2

      There has been some movement back to school uniforms at some US public schools especially in neighborhoods where there are issues with gangs as that avoids the issue of a kid wearing the wrong color walking to school or in school and getting attacked, at least to an extent. It also saves the school having to fight over what is and what isn't appropriate attire for the classroom, which wastes a lot of the time of principals and school boards and a lot of money on lawsuits over dress code discipline. The more successful implementations are kind of akin to China where the uniform is effectively unisex. It can also save parents a lot of money on school clothes as uniforms are usually pretty reasonably priced and then you don't have some kids wearing designer clothes while others might be wearing something from a secondhand store or Wal-Mart.
