Rescue 5 must have JUST received a new rig. Passed it on I-40, in Sevier County, TN, , heading toward I-81 to go north, just this past Sunday. Good looking truck!

Now all the 5 Rescues need are old refurbished train horns!! That will scare the crap out of people and get them to move out of the way. The train horns work good for other fire departments with rescue rigs that are as big an FDNY's rigs. Good catches, thanks for continuing to share.

While most all (that I can tell) FDNY large apparatus do not have a mechanical Federal Q2B siren, it appears R1, R2, R3 and R4 do. R5 did not appear to have one. Wonder if those are special order for the Rescue trucks in particular?

Anytime you see a mechanical Q siren on an FDNY truck, it was bought and paid for by an individual member of that company. If their truck needs to go to the FDNY shops for any reason, they have to take the Q off first because the Shops will confiscate any unauthorized Q-Sirens. They are not permitted due to city noise ordinances.
Mike Gaskin that’s a bunch of bs, it’s a siren for Christ sakes..... I don’t think a busy city like nyc being as loud as it is a mechanical siren will make things worse. You need a siren that loud!!!!!!!

Some individual houses, yes. But I doubt the entire department has gone over 10 or 20 minutes without someone in the dept getting punched out in the last 50 years.
I did the math once based off the 2019 run numbers. City wide the dept averaged a call to service every 20-25 seconds.

+THEMAJESTIRIUM1 All 5 rescues as well as all 7 squads responded to the Father's Day tragedy that claimed the lives of 3 of NY's Bravest 3 months before 9/11. I also believe all Rescues responded at some point in time during the apex of 9/11, but I am not sure as well. Many units and members "Self-Dispatched" that day and it is very difficult to find an official record of who responded(dispatched or otherwise) during the initial hours that day. Great Vid!

All 5 rescues responded, all 5 lost members in the trade center collapse
There are records of who responded, and by the looks of it it seems as though every front line company in the department as well as the extra pieces assigned to those companies fire houses responded, most of which self dispatched

What are the five Rescues "specialties"? R-1 (I think) is a Heavy Rescue, R-3 Trench (?), also who made the rigs? Here in my "town" (Raytown, MO) we just received two Farrara Rescue pumpers.
THEY ARE ALL THE SAME ND HAVE SAME RESCUE FUNCTIONS! THE RESCUE TRUCKS ALL MADE BY FERRARA! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)

Years ago, Rescue 3 was the citywide collapse unit and had a tractor-trailer collapse truck quartered with it. Since about 2005, all 5 rescue companies have had an associated collapse truck.
They are pretty much all the same; the only difference I can think of is that Rescue 1 has an inflatable boat on the roof, and Rescue 5 has a Haz-Mat truck similar to those quartered with Squads in other boroughs.
Never knew there were 5 rescue's.

Technically no companies are allowed to have real Qs, but some buy and install them in-house because they like Qs just as we do.

The City Councils of cities the size of NY should create an ordinance that strictly limits the # of ppl who can live & work there, including the # of tourists allowed. First responders Have to be able to respond to public emergencies faster than they do. Lives depend on it! It's just_Too damned crowded!

I think he means it's a different truck (and yes it is, ALL the Rescue trucks are newer units now), cause of the old Rescue 4 & 5 Units that are travelling around the country for the Remembrance Project!
