    Because now more-so than ever, playing from the back has become more important, its why having 3 CBs has become popular, since having a numerical advantage helps in the transition of the ball from GK to front if your team lacks quality CB’s with impeccable ball playing

    You want 3-2-5 or 2-3-5 attacking shape, but don't want your defenders to have to run the length of the pitch in defensive transitions, giving wide opposition attackers more time and space.

    If you’re an inverted full back, you have to be pretty much flawless on the ball. Any turn over caused by them leaves the team vulnerable if your CB’s are not the quickest. But I really enjoy watching players like Zinny, Rico Lewis and Trent you can tell they mastered their trade as a MF so playing inverted comes easily.

    it's just modern tactical innovation and adjustments over time
    1. overlapping full-backs have been the norm for so long that they start getting figured out = wide areas started getting congested
    2. so these managers start inverting them to allow for central overloads as a reaction to those defensive tactics
    3. at some point in the future (4-8 years or whatever), the inverted full-back role will start being used lesser and lesser
    4. cycle repeats in some form

    Ideally, Arsenal need to play Teirney left back cus he is better defensively than Zinchenko. But, Zinchenko is definitely better at inverting. Thats why Teirney has been benched. He's still a great left back. Its a matter of preference. But Zinchenko will always be a liability defensively unless we come up with a way to play Teirney and Zinchenko. which for me is putting Zinchenko where Xhaka is, he can do everything Xhaka can, and more.

    • @BloodRedLFC
      @BloodRedLFC Год назад

      The purpose of playing inverted fullback now is to create a box of 4 midfielders (North-east, North-west, South-west, South-east). So if Zinchenko plays the Xhaka role (North-west), who then plays the Zinchenko role (South-west)? You need a good ball-playing player to play this role with the ability to also pass precisely through midfield, thus Teirney is not ideal to play there and therefore benched.
