me, starting the video: IZABELA IS BACK!!! me later: ZACK??!! KAROLINA???!!!! literally all this needed was some Bernadette Banner! What a lovely ball, what lovely outfits, and of course it always cheers me to see some of my favourite RUclipsrs in one place!
Had a wonderful time, loved swishing around the dancefloor! Did not know you had to reorganize for new musicians at the last minute, how stressful! Thank you for such a magical night
I had a suspicion that Karolina Żebrowska was in the black & white dress at 7:51 so I checked the comments (there was nothing on her channel). I was not disappointed. Others had recognized her as well.
Now THIS is how you dress in fashions of the Gilded age! Not by vandalizing a historically-priceless dress from from the mid-Twentieth Century. *glares at Kim Kardashian* Take care of yourself and get well soon, Izabela!
This looks like tons of fun. I’m happy your shoulder is heeling well and as always I’ll be looking forward to your next video. I watch a lot of historical fashion videos on RUclips, and I honestly have to say that nobody can present the history behind historical garments, the steps it took to getting dressed, the culture, and overall presentation better than you can.
Everyone looked so beautiful and obviously enjoying themselves. I really look forward for every new video from your channel, because it gives a great sense of how dressing in a different Era was just as normal as it is today for us dressing in our current fashion. Thank you for making this possible!!!
To be a fly in the wall!!! That would have been spectacular! Your hair coming out of the curlers!! 😂 We have that in common along with the frozen shoulder!!
This put such a smile on my face! Looks like a great time, and some of those portraits could pass off as authentic period photos! Thank you for the video!
Finally catching up with that video! What a joy to see fellow fans of historical reenactments/balls spend time together and live out their passion wearing such fine clothes! I was so happy for my dear friend Linda that she got to attend this very renowned event!!
Dear Izabella, the pictures are amazing, wonderful. The dresses and the accessories are a dream! Like in a past time, I´m speechless, you see?😉 But you´re looking tired. Please take care of you!Stay healthy. Greetings from Austria
Gasp! Was that Karolina I saw? She made it! Hurrah! It looks like you all had a blast, I'm so happy for you. I definitely enjoyed watching all the fun.
Here I am pinning on a pattern for my first ever home stitched project, making a cloak, and watching so many gorgeous gowns and outfits, looks like everyone had a great time. Hope the shoulder is improving and can’t wait to see what’s next 😊
Ooh this looks wonderful, the clothes are magnificent, wish I had been there too. I would love information on any future events. I'm pleased you're shoulder is better. I currently have Bilateral Frozen Shoulders and am waiting for my treatment. Dressing is a nightmare. As always love your work 💗
In a completely random event, I saw Karolina, and companions, in seriously lovely outfits, in the train station in Paddington in late April (I live in Belgium, so it's not like I'm often at Paddington Station) and hoped I would someday find out what it was about. And lo, here is my answer.
Great video Enjoy watching all the dancing and activities Beautiful gowns dresses and suits Thank you for sharing Have a great day See you in next video
Looks like great fun. Despite the pain you were in, and struggles to put on the event, it seems that you were still able to enjoy yourself. You all looked wonderful. I'm sure you all caused a stir as you walk the streets in such a large group. I think the wide, puffed shoulders and sleeves of that era are particularly striking.
That was a feast for the eyes! My favourite photo was of you at the sewing machine window. I could hear you saying, "Oooooh" before I read it on the screen. THAT needs to be a greeting card!
I feel like I'm watching a wonderful dramatic movie, like Pride and Prejudice. (I know, wrong era, but something along those lines) This really is quite lovely- the colours, the fabrics, the cuts of the gowns...I'm in love! I'm so sorry you've been having difficulty with your shoulder. A few years ago, I fell and tore my rotator cuff. It's never been the same. I was supposed to come to England for the summer, but I contracted a very dangerous infection (not contagious) and all my plans got canceled. 😭 Well, there's always next year. One of the places I want to travel to see is Bath. I was a history major at uni. I also want to go to Longleat, to pat the koalas! I love koalas! I'm so glad Lord Bath created Longleat. You should be a movie costumer! Your outfits are brilliant! I so look forward to seeing what you create next! Cheers!
It was a fabulous weekend and very much looking forward to next year. So pleased to see glimpses of the back of my gown in the dancing - I was curious how it would move being so heavy with the applique. So many lovely outfits and lots of lovely memories. Thank you 😊
Was it a custom of the time to have someone 'calling' the dances like is shown here? Or was this being done to help people who aren't familiar with these old dances know what to do next? All the outfits are lovely!
I throughly enjoyed watching this! I think I smiled the entire time! 😊I wish they had events like this here! Congratulations on a well put together weekend (even if it was 2yrs later, lol,) everyone looked like they didn't mind one bit. 😉
There just isnt the interest in the states. I have tried to put something together to no avail. On top of the weak interest there is the utter lack of followthrough. I fear ANYTHING formal, and Americans are repulsed.
I think you need to look out more. The vast majority of my books on Victorian dressmaking go to the states- about 70%, and I have sent thousands there. There is definitely interest- and lots of event happening throughout the Hera, though it may not be in you direct area- people do travel around rather a lot to go to them
@@priorattire that is wonderful to hear how many people are interested in the same things I am! I will DEFINITELY check around more. I'm on the east coast of the US, they might have events like this further up north of me. Either way I could maybe look into planning one here...?! I think it would be perfect here in Georgia! Once again I truly enjoy seeing your work and the videos of the finished products and seeing everyone enjoying them as well!
There is quite a variety of historic dance groups in California who host balls and classes. That is where I learned how to do dances from the Regency, Victorian, and Jazz Age Eras. Currently, I am looking to begin a group in the Houston, Texas area. We shall see, fingers crossed!
How can we participate on this one next time? I am Brazilian, but always love United Kingdom and its history… I had just came back from London, where I went to participate from the coronation street’s party… it was amazing! Please tell me how I could contact with you, Izabela? Thanks . Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The dance again shows my THEORY that "the evolution of dancing styles is parallel to the evolution of society", i.e. - it STARTED with "everyone dancing as part of a community" with country dances where you switch partners and "dance as part of the whole" - transitions to "dancing in separate pairs" with the Waltz and other dances ... - and continues to looser and looser dances of today, where a "couple" (not really necessary!) doesnt necessarily touch each other anymore. This represents the start in "a (village) community", continues through the "uprooting of people" due to moving to cities because of the industrial revolution ... and ends in the "self-centered single culture" of today.
The tradition for solo show-off dancing goes back a looooong way, usually with the soloist dancing in a circle of bystanders, some of whom will either have shown off already or will show off later.
Interesting idea. I would love to know, if it holds up, when compared across different cultures. I only know a little bit about various European folk dances, but I can't, at least, think off an immediate example to contradict your theory.
@@raraavis7782 There are a lot of solo dances, predominantly by masculine dancers, from the 16th century onwards, such as Capoeira, Reel and halling/lausdans, long before the rise in popularity of couple-dances. The solo dances tend to have a significant element of showing off the dancer’s athleticism.
@@ragnkja Yes, I know. That's not a contradiction at all, imo. It's one of the defining features of western civilization, that value is placed on the individual and not just the group/tribe. These type of dances reflect that. You're part of your family and culture and expected to move in unity with them, to some degree, but you also have the potential, to step forward and be the 'hero' or 'leader' in some capacity or other. Often by being a particularly capable warrior. Dances in which one individuum steps out from a circle, let's say, to perform some athletic feat or showy dance routine, just to re-integrate into the group again afterwards are a perfect symbol of that, wouldn't you say? Wonderful pictures, all look very beautiful, but the couple at 8:29 is so adorable!
I was searching for Bernadette Banner in the footage but didn't see her.
She had a ticket but couldn’t make it in the end

In Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House in the Big Woods" calling dance figures is mentioned. That would have been around 1865.
That was fun.
I can't wait to go at one point!
Did I see Karolina Zebrowska (Meme Mom) there?!
Yep, she was one of the guests
And Zack Pinsent. And other faces I recognize, but their names are slipping my mind right now.

Wundervoll! Absolut schöne Kleider und Gesellschaft. 💖
That looks like such fun.
Did I spot some Gigot sleeves? The late Victorian and Edwardian period are one of my favourites when it comes to fashion.
No shoutout to Karolina Zebrovska and Zack Pinsent? hehe. Great video, I'm jealous, I want to attend victorian balls!
I cannot give shoutouts to every single guests. There are no celebrities at the ball, everyone is treated equally.
I look forward to one day joining you all. Blessed be
I'd love to go to one of these someday; ideally after making my own 1880 promenade attire!
looks like so much fun! you look all so lovely!
can I join you next year?
The tickets already sold out I am afraid!
What beatiful costumes❤️❤️. I am surprised to see so many men. Do they make their own costumes??
Done yes, some don’t. Just like the women- some people make some buy
wonderful video!
How lovely ❤
It appears a good time was had by all. During Victorian times, was the group dancing referred to as contra dance?
I am hearing impaired and am always disappointed when there are no closed captions.
It's OK, there was nothing to caption. Their mouths were moving but there was music over the top.
WHAT AN AMAZING BALLLLL!! AAAAAA :DDDD
I would love to do this! I need to plan for next year!
Please make it over here to the US in Georgia!!!
It would've been much more fun if someone wore a fèileadh beag or small kilt to the ball. It probably might have been around during the Victorian era.
Very Nice!

Have you covered a Victorian weddings yet?
Yes
I would love to go to a ball like this. But here in Austria there are no such cool balls with all this old clothes.
Firstly/ people travel. Secondarily- lots of thing going on in Europe/ including a ball in vein a next year that we are also going to…
How many costumes did you travel with 😱?..
5 sets plus nightwear
