yo one time in high school i was running with some girls from my track team after school (without the coach, he was w another part of the team) & i accidentally hurt my ankle and i was bleeding profusely. so one of the girls i was running with suggested they all carry me to her house since it was way closer than the school. so they did that, and meanwhile, one of the other girls ran back to the school to tell the office what was going on. i was fine i got stitches bla bla bla but the next day admin called all the girls that were with me down to the office and screamed at them for not carrying me 2 kilometres back to the school.......... & then they proceeded to scold me over the phone for calling my mom before calling the school and my coach. schools are always trying to cover their asses they don't care about what's morally correct lmao

The hospital story is wild to me. I had to repeatedly ASK campus security (who rescued me from the stairwell where I'd fallen and broken my ankle in 3 places) to call me an ambulance. They kept insisting I get a taxi. I learned later that that's how they got most of the students to the hospital, even kids with preexisting conditions who passed out (granted it was like 10 blocks away but still). They assumed all of the students didn't have insurance or that it wouldn't cover an ambulance ride, which is such a sad reflection on our HC system.

    • @SM-gt9vg
      @SM-gt9vg 4 года назад +11

It is sad. They also probably realize most college kids don't know this yet and are still on their parent's insurance. They don't want the parents to end up with a massive hospital bill.

The, "I'm your RA" "Omg, you're my RA" part reminded me of the literal COUNTLESS times I would see my residents downtown at the bars. Once, one of my residents, inebriated after a day of dartying, screamed at me from across the parking lot, "SEE YOU AT 100 PROOF (a bar) TONIGHT, BECCAAAAA!!!"
The year after I was an RA, I was a desk/building access assistant and almost exclusively worked from 2 a.m.-8 a.m. (kms, so much worse than being on duty) Students had to swipe their IDs to get into the building, and one time this resident's card wasn't working. I buzzed him in, looked at his card, and and said, "Um, this fake ID will only let you into the bars, not into this building." He sobered up SO quick, "Uhh that's um that's my friend's haha just holding it for him uhhh here's my real ID heheh I swear I live here."

Honestly, RA's are lifesavers. I had one RA who was so kind, I got sunburned on my face really bad and didn't have an aloe so I was in agony. I knocked on her door and asked if she had any to spare. She didn't have any but she did let me know that the health clinic had some for free. So I went a whole night in pain but I did get the aloe eventually. She was also the same RA who helped some of my friends(lived on the same floor as me) when they had serious health issues(One friend has heart issues and another one has too many health issues to count so she's prone to fainting) and needed to go to the hospital on several occasions. This year before the semester when online, we had a cool RA but I also witness some crazy things and stories being on Hall Council, for instance, one time we had a girl in our hall who had a METH LAB in her dorm. After that, our RA quit and we got a new one who is also super cool. Although he wasn't there long because we went online.

Not an RA but have a fun story involving my RA (who was off duty)! Two weeks before we got kicked out the the halls, thanks corona, my friends and I decided to draw an Ouiji Board and play it in the main area while everyone else got on the piss. It was fun and my RA joined in. That RA tricked us into believe there was a spirit with us called Ian. My friend had to go to the toilet so we said goodbye, when she came back she was pretty much running out of the toilet scared that Ian was gonna take her soul. After that we continued trying to summon spirits with the RA and one of the night guards joined in. Pretty much we got so into it that we stayed up till 3 a.m. to try the ouiji board again (didn’t even realise that we were doing the ouiji board at 3 am on Friday 13th) that’s when my RA revealed he was Ian but we still did it anyway. It worked and we all freaked out so the night guard with us went outside to set our drawn ouiji board on fire. Honestly this whole story sounds stupid but it was a fun night

I went to community college then transferred to a university. I was 22 and my roommate was 21 when we first moved into the dorms. It turned out our RA had just turned 21. She LOVED us! She came down to hang-out in our room with us a couple times a month. She let us have an illegal sandwich grill because we made her grilled cheese when she would stop by. She also liked us because we were SLIGHTLY more mature than the other residents, so we rarely gave her any problems. She was the most super-chill person at the college. She was awesome.

I remember just one time in my hall taking a shower and hearing the loud crash of something breaking outside. As I exited the bathroom, I saw a bunch of people gathered including my RA around a neighbor who lived directly across from me and his foot was bleeding profusely. There was blood on the walls, floor, and covering my RA's hands since she was putting pressure on his wounds. They told me to just walk around them as I left the shower, barefoot because I forgot to grab some slippers or something. Even after the cleaning ladies came, you could still see where he had bled and that might have been the craziest thing I remember from this year.

You are such a good person. That job is dumb. If I were a resident and needed to go to the hospital you going with me would mean so much that I can't even put into words, but having an ambulance called would probably make me hate everyone involved and be scared to come to the RA again. Jobs really need to be more human, like actually caring about the people they're servicing.

I was never an RA, but I was probably a nightmare for some RA's considering the fact I saved someone's fish from the mens bathroom because these two guys thought their fish died. They quickly found out the fish was not dead, left a sign on the bathroom door, and then after I saved the fish they had the gall to ask for it back. The supervisor of the building begged me to give the fish back to avoid any ramifications. I said hell no and my roommate and I bought supplies for the comet goldfish which we promptly named Legolas. **I should also note that the previous owners of the fish made no other attempts to save their fish and left it in the bowl for more than two days.... somehow no one flushed.
There was also a time where I was in the HLC of my dorms and worked alongside RA's. Did business rounds/hype rounds with them to promote events. Coming up with events was so yawn worthy so I hosted a "Shrekathon" with my RA. Printed about 25 sheets of coloring sheets, ate popcorn, and had a good time. lol

finishing up my freshman year now and honestly pitied the RAs that had to put up with my building. For a small private school, party scene was huge & so much mess came with it.. we had a kid blacked out on the bathroom floor in the first 3 weeks of classes & a room that got busted for parting 3 weekends in a row before cops were finally called.. we love a co-ed freshman dorm

TECHNICALLY, freezing a fish is a humane way of basically putting a fish down if it's sick. It goes to sleep and then just...freezes. More humane than just starving it

I was an Academic Peer Mentor (so like on RA staff but the nerdy cousin that had to deal with academic issues instead of the roommate/illegal issues). My school accepted too many freshmen my first year on staff so students/their families were showing up on their first day and being told they had to live in a "converted" LOUNGE until enough other people dropped out and moved out😅

15 years ago I messaged my RN on AIM because my neighbor next door was doing some weird sorority initiation ritual and it was keeping me up at night. I still wonder what the hell they were doing that she kept saying "ouch". Were like they giving her a tatoo or something? Then the girl got mad at me for snitching and like threatened to beat me up for spying on her. I just wanted to go to sleep.

The ambulance situation is so stressful. For one the doctors in the ambulance can assist her on the way to the hospital which is good. But then it’s the states... so that ambulance price could ruin someone’s financial position. It’s so whack.

Fictional story time: An unnamed student who went to College University called an RA last semester asking them to hold his/her "emotional support" turtle, which may not have been registered, that he/she was too afraid to touch. Same person made a call asking for an RA to put his/her earrings in for him/her. How on earth did this individual survive a full year of school???

I’m an RA right now and we have a lot of benefits that other student workers don’t have specifically because we are unionized. We get decently good pay in comparison to other places, reduced parking, paid time off, and our supervisors can’t fire us unfairly. If you’re an RA right now, really consider unionizing, because it makes the job a lot more manageable. Get in contact with local unions in your area or with an existing RA union if that interests you!
