  • Civil society groups plan to march against Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Kwamanda, insisting he's to blame for the city's decay. One of the organisations calling for Gwamanda to be sacked is Rivonia Circle. Its director, Tessa Dooms, explains why. "We've seen many instances where the mayor does PR at the desk without any sense that he cares about what's going on in the city," she says.

Great interview Tessa. We’ve long let the city go unchecked. I am about to pay my rates again as unhappy person

He is charging the tariff of R230 per month on the metres. These people are paying and being punished. But non payers of the hijacked buildings are NOT paying. The true owners have given up and abandoned their buildings. Its insane. No help given from the Mayor, SARS, City of Joburg accounts, police just hopeless. BUT the mayor wants a 5th technological revolution 😂😂. Just crazy.

The slow decay has started 30 years ago. The citizens in Jhb are only waking up now, warnings have been uttered over many years.

Tessa 100%. Problem is the system allows them to play musical chairs, and they will do so for own gain, regardless of what citizens want or need. Unless we come up with new rules and systems, they will continue to play musical chairs.

Councillors working from home is not good, that means they are not working as they should, I suspect reduced hours but they get a pay increase every year.
