    Awesome videos!!! Just found the channel and it´s amazingly full of great content!
    I was setting up the assistive touch and found out that, in my iPhone 15 pro with iOS 17.5.1, I get a banner (with a confirmation button) every time I try to launch a shorcut from assistive touch menu.
    It doesn't show up in your video. How do avoid that?
    Thanks a lot!!

      So glad you found us Pablo! :-) Does the issue occur when you first wake the phone? If so, that may be a result of having Passcode turned on. (Face ID doesn't work through the membrane, so it presents a banner to manually enter your passcode.) I turn that off before each dive and then back on when I'm done. Let me know if that resolves the issue.

    • @TropicLens
      @TropicLens  Месяц назад +1

      We just use Apple's Alarm app to remind us to turn it off manually, Alexander. Unfortunately, there isn't any (or we just can't find an) automated process to turn if off at a scheduled time. :-(

    Great video! Since I use Divevolk too and do most of my dives on Bonaire, I’m curious how you go about using the red filter. Oftentimes when I’m between the surface and 7m deep the red filter makes all the footage far too red, almost giving it a vintage feel, however without the filter everything is far too blue. How did you tackle that issue?

    • @TropicLens
      @TropicLens  7 дней назад

      Sorry for the delayed response. We left the island for a family vacation in the US; but we're back refreshed...and with some new toys! With respect to the filter coloring, we try to handle that a few different ways. In the shallows, particularly on sunny days, we won't use the filter as the colors are pretty vibrant. A second option may lie within the camera app. We use the Blackmagic Camera app which has a "Tint" feature that allows you to adjust the color temperature and has several presets for sunny, indoor lighting, cloudy, etc. A third option we use is post processing. We use Final Cut Pro and their latest release has even more controls to tweak colors, contrast, etc. Let us know if any of that helps. :-)

Every once in a while, I pull them out and try them when taking some of my footage; but it never really looks good...and it appears to slow things down a bit when recording 4k/60fps. So...none of these videos use LUTs, Just a red filter on the camera and color correction in FCPX.

    On my iPhone 12 running IOS Version 17.5.1, I cannot set Passcode Management through Alarms in the built-in Clock app as shown in the last part of this otherwise wonderful video. Am I missing something? I googled the issue to no avail. I don't want to turn off Face ID & Passcode in Settings because that will remove Fade ID from all the apps that I allow to use it. Perhaps Apple has changed this feature since this video was made 5 months ago. Any additional help or insight that you can provide would be appreciated, please.

    • @TropicLens

      Sorry for any confusion about the alarms Jessie. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to automate Passcode actions with the alarm. All we do is set an alarm for say 7:30am (ahead of an 8:00am dive) and then turn Passcode off manually. We then set an alarm for say 3:00pm (after we intend to finish the day) and turn the Passcode back on. The alarm doesn't do anything other than remind us to keep the iPhone easy to access/use underwater and secure when we're finished. Hope this helps, but let us know if you have any other questions.

    • @jesseheines
      @jesseheines Месяц назад

      Ah-ha. That makes perfect sense. Thank you. Yes, I was confused due to the text below the times. I thought that those were actions that were taken at the specified time, not just textual reminders. I now understand that I was wrong.
      One other question, please. I typically use silicon grease on O-rings and seals such as those on housings. However, I also know that some manufacturers specifically say *not* to use silicon grease due to the materials that their seals are made from. So, please tell me whether or not you recommend using silicon grease on the housing seal. Thank you. Jesse

    Really enjoying your Bonaire dive videos. Brings back many memories especially the difficulty getting in and out but your fish photography and identification is top notch. This video has helped me configure my iPhone for the Divevolk housing but I can't seem to see how you set an alarm to turn off passcode. I don't see how to set an alarm for a function other than time and if you go to Settings and FaceID or Passcode Management when you try and turn off passcode it gives a warning about wallet information. Could you add a "how to" comment ?

    • @TropicLens
      @TropicLens  5 месяцев назад

      Sorry for any confusion Richard, but there is no link between setting an alarm and passcode management. We just set a time based alarm which reminds us to turn passcode management on/off. As for general instructions, Apple has the latest process for turning passcode on/off at: support.apple.com/guide/iphone/set-a-passcode-iph14a867ae/ios
      As for the impact on wallet information, you are correct. When turning passcode off, there is a warning about "Apple Pay cards and car keys will be removed from Wallet and will need to be manually re-added to use them again." That said, it doesn't appear to completely remove the card. We tested the process with a credit card and found that, after turning passcode back on and clicking on Add Card in the Wallet app, there was a Previous Cards option that showed the credit card we had entered before turning passcode off. We had to re-enter the security code and you may have to call the credit card company, but it wasn't a complete start over. Still, this may be a concern/hassle for some folks, so thank you for bringing it up. :-)

      @@TropicLens - From a Scott Kelby video, he pointed out if your iPhone is locked then all you have to do to get to the Camera app is press screen and then swipe left - voila instant camera. If you use your accessibility bubble you can then go to Blackmagic etc. This way you can lock to preserve battery but regain the rapid access to camera or other app without having to adjust your settings before the dive.

    Can you give us a hint, how to turn off passcode via the calendar? I searched many pages but did not find any clue. All suggestions are manually made (go to settings…)

    • @TropicLens
      @TropicLens  5 месяцев назад

      Sorry for any confusion Richard. There is no link between the alarm and passcode changes. We just set an alarm for about 30 minutes before we plan to leave for the dive...to make sure we don't forget to turn it off. While you can do many things with the phone underwater, you cannot turn off passcode because it requires either cell or wifi service, neither of which are available underwater. We also set an alarm for about an hour after we plan to complete the dive to make sure we remember to turn it back on because...security. :-) As for turning passcode on/off, in case you (or someone else reading this) want instructions, Apple has them at support.apple.com/en-us/HT204060 . Hope this helps, but let us know if you have any other questions.
