I could be wrong but I don't think you are supposed to Kon Mari other people's stuff for them. I think Penn and the kids would be asked to sort through their own clothes and decide what sparks joy if Marie Kondo was there. Lol.
Legit. Also you’re supposed to hold each item to determine if it brings joy, not just look at it. This was hard for me as a mom to grasp (and also as a wife of a sentimental hoarder!), but I’ve been able to help everyone move forward more easily and found more peace for myself by being respectful of the kids choices. We have discussions about some items, but not as many. Also one of her episodes of Tidying Up really addresses this. I can’t remember which but it’s an episode of a family of 4 that downsized to an LA apartment.
Having that many shoes depicts disposable income.....if I could afford it, I might have a ton of shoes! Although, I think I would find others things like electronics or vehicles to spend excess cash on. If you want it and can afford it, but it and enjoy! You only live once!
Agree. Everyone is responsible for their own things. It isn't about throwing things away. It's about intentionally selecting what things you should keep. And you can only do that for your own things.
Marie Kondo isn't against sentimental stuff. In fact, she leaves it for the last category because she knows how hard that is for people. Her motto, as you said yourself, is "If it brings you joy, keep it." If those shoes bring you joy, she'd say to keep them, not throw them away. Retract that finger.
“I am heartless I will throw away some stuff”! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 you guys are amazing I love the dynamic your have. I was laughing the whole time from one heartless sister to another!
Me too!! My jaw literally fell open when I saw all of those shoes lined up lol I have a pair of sneakers, pair of winter boots, pair of sandles & 2 pairs of dresser shoes (1 black & 1 white) that go with everything dressy I own.
Me too, lol. I have have about ten pairs though. Winter/rain boots, one sandals, one runners, a couple crocs, uggs, and a couple pairs of casual shoes, keds and loafers, one dressy (black), and a pair of really cool handmade leather shoes from the renaissance faire. That’s about it. I’ve never cared about shoes much. I admit I LOVE Sorels, but I live in Southern California so I have a strict one pair policy.☹️
You two are hilarious! This is the kind of relationship I've always wanted. You can disagree and it's more like a debate than poo slinging, which I hate. Prince Charming, where are you?
When we took over the house, that I grew up in, we literally had the same Grill! That looks like a Weber and it is a good Grill! That same Grill hung around for about a year in my backyard and we didn't use it because we got a propane grill. I finally convinced my husband to throw it away. Now years later we rediscovered how much we like the taste of charcoal grilled stuff. I've never had the opportunity to buy another Weber and all the other grills we have bought they rust and fall apart!
Ok Penn I think my husband has one up on you. He has had 2 yep 2 smokers to smoke meat in and each time they have rusted and NEVER been used... I mean NEVER!!! He "wants" to learn how to smoke meat but won't actual do anything about it .. I tried signing him up for a class at our local BBQ place and he won't go. I just love you guys. 😁
omg I haven't own that many pairs of shoes in my entire life & I am 38! lmao I currently own maybe 5 pairs that get me through the entire year. Penn has more shoes than my entire household currently has hahaha This was hilarious to watch. I am NOT into Marie Kondo at all, if I had to get rid of the things in my house that didn't bring me joy then it would be empty. However I do go through the closets 2 x a year and remove anything too small or we haven't wore in the last 6mos to a year. We donate it all to Big Brother Big Sister. I tend to do it in the Spring around my kids birthdays (April) & again in Nov or Dec because they usually get new clothes for Christmas.
She does have you express gratitude for the things you have to keep for practical purposes, but that don’t bring you joy. You should maybe get something that brings you joy though.
I really enjoy watching your channel. I love Penn's surprised expressions when Kim does something unexpected. Which brings up an interesting question...Is that one of the things about Kim that Penn adores? She can still surprise him with the things she does, even though they have been married for a while?
Yes! When I walk into the garage I see a rack of my husband’s shoes by the doormat. When I walk into the laundry room, there is yet another rack of my husband’s shoes. When I open our closet door, more of his shoes (which is ok in the closet). On his side of the bedroom all around his chest of drawers... about 8-10 more pairs of shoes!!! I think there are some in the basement, too. Oh yeah, his waders & snow boots are down there. He wears a size 13. His shoes need to start paying rent. They use A LOT of square footage!😂😂😂😂
Kim, I am with you. If my home is organized and I get rid of clutter, I get rid of my anxiety!!! With that being said, I have issues with sentimental things like my son's very first outfit he wore home, my dog's first outfit, my dad's things. I finally threw away my dad's 25 different games he used to play alone. He passed away 6 years ago and I still can't throw his glasses and pants away. I need to let go of some of that because the memories are more important than material things. I loved this video. Thank You
This is so awesome. I've been all about getting rid of things for the past 6 months. This is so funny. I also read the tidy up book and when she said to take all your photos out of albums and only keep a few - 5 from every trip I think - she lost me. I am not a fan. I am a fan of do you have space and is it of service or does it bring you joy? I finally let go of clothes I've had since high school and haven't worn since high school. And I should note that I haven't been in high school for a very long time. Thanks for making me laugh and keeping me feeling good about letting go of stuff.
Haha, love the shoes he bought you. My husband bought me shoes, The 1st Winter we were dating because we were in college in Chicago and I was from California and didn't own a good pair of boots so he got me couple pairs of boots and some really cute heels
I had my own moment of truth a decade ago (?) when I cleaned the shoe shelf in the top of my closet. Found shoes from BC - before children. These were shoes I had worn in the 1980s. Not proud I kept them for so long without even knowing it!
With the sentimental shoes, keep them because they bring you joy! Marie would support that. It’s not about getting rid of stuff, it’s about making room for things you love.
They also didn’t follow the correct order or the instructions to pile up all items in the category and then pick up each item - this obviously was made just for laughs.
Y’all could open a shoe store! I have 5 pair of shoes. And I wear about 2 of them. My flats during the day and my work tennis shoes at night. My 4 year old has more shoes than me. If I were to go through my house and get rid of what doesn’t bring me joy, I’d literally have nothing left...even the house itself. Y’all are amazing people! Thanks for always making me laugh! ❤️❤️❤️
There's a strong hoarding tendency in my family, and I have it. So, I go through my stuff regularly and say goodbye to unneeded stuff. I also had my kids do the same, since they were little. They know what they've outgrown! I'm pretty sure one of my grown-up kids still does this.
I swear with every video I think Kim and I are related! I go through everybody’s things and NOBODY notices!!! If I open my eyes and I see peace and things in their place I’m so happy. If I see clutter and stuff I have mild panic attacks. I can’t handle clutter or dirt.
That was my husband's childhood, so having stuff really stresses him out. Too much to pack up and move. But it also meant that the furniture we got when we moved into our house (13 years ago) was hand-me downs and semi-disposable...and we still have it. Trashed sofas and beaver-vomit bedroom sets do NOT spark joy. I think I finally have him accepting that we're here until the end, so we are slowly replacing furniture and getting things we really like, or at least getting rid of the things we hate. And after we recently had to pack up everything to replace our carpets, I'm seeing his point about "stuff" and I am decluttering everything!
Kim we have the same issue with the grill. A huge propane grill with side burner etc and that very same Weber grill that hasn't been used in over 3 years!
"Storage" is only for family heirlooms, and things used at least twice a year or more. If you are storing things, you are hoarding. I have less than 10 pairs of shoes total. A third are winter, a third are daily, a third are dressy.
My husband & I relate so much to you guys. I have filled probably 10 trash bags for GoodWill in the last two weeks. My husband has been warned to Marie Kondo his things himself or I’m coming for his stuff......joy or no joy 😂
Keep the watercolor. Just roll it up and put it in a tube. Or better yet, take a good pic of it, get it developed into a 5x7, frame it, stick on the wall🤷♀️. You guys got down to just 100 pairs of shoes! Good job👍.
Against sentimental value? That’s the reason I keep everything I own! Everything has a precious memory stored inside, I don’t trust my mind to remember the memories if their monument is gone.
I am SOOO with you, Kim! When my "outside" is cluttered (nice way of putting it), my inside is anxious. However, y'all's Quarantine Queen gave me such PEACE-- thank you 'cause my pandemic clean up plans went up in flames!-LOL
Penn, I absolutely LOVE your pretty blue socks!!! I'm glad you didn't hide them by wearing one of the (30? 40?) pairs of shoes you had to choose from! Lol! But for real, I do like those socks... 🙂
Before you get rid of that grill, you need to visit BBQPitBoys.com . There are basically two kinds of clutter. "Memory Clutter" and "I might need it someday clutter". You have to be willing to ruthlessly get rid of both. I head both of you say that you were keeping something because of a memory and/or because you might need it some day. Full Disclosure: My house looks like it should be on an episode of "Hoarders".
Wow. My husband has 2 huge boxes in our room stacked on top of each other. I tired to toss them. Oh boy did i get veto!! Still in my room on my side of the room.😈😈😈
oh Penn, when will you learn :D Kim will always win lol. I have to say Kim, i'm like you in the sense that if things are cluttered and messy, i feel my insides turning lol.
SouthernChick you can do it! Start by reading Marie kondo book. She breaks it all down for you. Then just start small. I read her book last night and I was so excited I started today. 💕🇨🇦
I have three pairs of shoes: dress, sneakers, and work boots, that's all you need! though... I have a hat problem. I have 30 hats, I think I wear maybe 4 of them?
Penn, We just watched this and "WHY" did you get rid of the Weber Grill? It is not the same as a Traeger. I own both and they each have their purpose in my grilling meal rotation. I feel it's on the same level as having an oven, microwave and/or air fryer. The each have a preferred method in preparing a meal. #savetheweber
This became personal re--al quick, LOL. I have one pair snow/rain boots, a pair of uggs (for them cold but not wet days), 3 pairs of sneeks (2 warm weather and 1 "most weather") and a single pair of dress flats. If you kept count, that's 6 pairs of shoes - for the year. I am a cis gender female woman and identify as such. By the stereotype, I am *abnormal*. If I can pair down that much to 1-2 pairs of shoes a quarter, Kim hunnty... you got this!
Penn seems to be a butterfly. Kim seems to be a cricket or possibly a bee. Check out Clutterbug on a RUclips. She knows how to organize for families in ways everyone is happy!
Shoes... The Shoes!! I have a pair of trainers for driving (my comfy shoes), a pair of trainers that don't leak for every day walking, a pair of work shoes and a pair of slippers... Why so many shoes???
“It brings me the opposite of joy.”
-Penn Holderness
Remember, though, with Marie Kondo you are supposed to let each person sort their own stuff. 🤣😂🤣
I realize I'm 3 years late to this party, but I have not laughed this much in a very long time. Thank you Kim and Penn
That’s what I was thinking too. Marie doesn’t specify what people should keep and discard, that’s up to each individual person to decide.
Marie says specifically in the book to NOT go through any ones things but your own.
WAIT CAN I HAVE YOUR CHARCOAL GRILL??! I'll pick it up. I'm local. It would bring me lots of joy :)
@HoldernessFamily let Daniel have the grill!
Man, the classic Webber? That was a low blow.
They legit have the best videos. I'm addicted. I'm watching things from years ago 😂
"Retract that finger" cracked me up. I hope it catches on.
“I am heartless I will throw away some stuff”! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 you guys are amazing I love the dynamic your have. I was laughing the whole time from one heartless sister to another!
I don't know how you guys have so many shoes! I have one pair of sneakers, 1 snow boots and 1 flipflops.
Me too!! My jaw literally fell open when I saw all of those shoes lined up lol I have a pair of sneakers, pair of winter boots, pair of sandles & 2 pairs of dresser shoes (1 black & 1 white) that go with everything dressy I own.
Same! I have one pair tennis shoes, one pair flip flops and one pair of converse.
Ditto...
Hmmmm, they must just do more with their lives. A shoe for every occasion.

You two are hilarious! This is the kind of relationship I've always wanted. You can disagree and it's more like a debate than poo slinging, which I hate. Prince Charming, where are you?
I'm a little jealous of how many pairs of shoes kim has. Me, I only have maybe 4 pairs of shoes total.
I'm pretty sure that's a good thing as opposed to how many shoes kim has
I also have 4 pairs of shoes. Not jealous, though.
Sounds like you have just the right amount of shoes.
With that many shoes most of them are just going to fill up space and collect dust.
What about Kim’s 27 different types of soap 😂
underrated?
Lol
I don't think you can "Marie Kondo" someone like a weapon! LOL, you guys!
Hilarious! I love when Kim gets crazy-eyes
When we took over the house, that I grew up in, we literally had the same Grill! That looks like a Weber and it is a good Grill! Oh boy. Yep, he wins.
You two are hilarious 😂 I had to rewind to hear Penn’s scream when Kim brought out the painting hahaha!
omg I haven't own that many pairs of shoes in my entire life & I am 38! lmao I currently own maybe 5 pairs that get me through the entire year. Just hope you don't have a snow storm two weekends in a row. I was living a Marie Kondo hell!!! In never ends. Stay strong Penn
I love how Penn keeps saying "I love you" 😂😂😂 this video and your videos in general are hilarious! Have a great week! 💕
Me : Has 5 pairs of shoes
Kim and Penn: A bajillion pairs
I really enjoy watching your channel. I love Penn's surprised expressions when Kim does something unexpected. Which brings up an interesting question...Is that one of the things about Kim that Penn adores? She can still surprise him with the things she does, even though they have been married for a while?
This is hilarious. My hubby has ADHD and his shoes are ALL over the house 😀😀😀 but I love him.
So glad you guys did this! The struggle is real! ❤️😘
You guys are awesome and hilarious. After watching several Marie Kondo shows, this was fun and real too. 😂
“I’m heartless I will get rid of anything” 🤣❤️😂❤️ that’s how I feel !!!
Brilliant, Looking forward to the part 2 attic? :D
7:10 spoken like a real Husband!!! love it
Yes! When I walk into the garage I see a rack of my husband’s shoes by the doormat. When I walk into the laundry room, there is yet another rack of my husband’s shoes. Although this is an old episode....I love this one!!! Definitely makes me go thru my stuff more!!!!!!
Yay!!!! Can't wait to see the attic Konmaried!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kim, I am with you. If my home is organized and I get rid of clutter, I get rid of my anxiety!!! I so admire you doing this for the whole world to see.
I love the framed map that's behind Kim at the end of the video!

You guys bring such joy and laughter into this time of "we need so much more joy and laughter and humor" thank you. we love you.
One time I was cleaning my room and my dad made me and my brother watch it (I got MariKondo'ed by my dad)
‘If it brings me joy I keep it ‘🤣
Haha, love the shoes he bought you. My husband bought me shoes, The 1st Winter we were dating because we were in college in Chicago and I was from California and didn't own a good pair of boots so he got me couple pairs of boots and some really cute heels
I love this! So good to go through the memories and glad you kept the first gift from Penn!
I had my own moment of truth a decade ago (?) when I cleaned the shoe shelf in the top of my closet. Found shoes from BC - before children. These were shoes I had worn in the 1980s. Not proud I kept them for so long without even knowing it!
Seeing your struggles as a couple, I can relate with my wife. Thanks for what you do.
Penn was actually getting hysterical it was so funny lol
With the sentimental shoes, keep them because they bring you joy! Marie would support that. It’s not about getting rid of stuff, it’s about making room for things you love.
I despise clutter, too. My husband is a hoarder so I feel your pain. Lol
My husband has 4 grills, in different sizes! We are doing KonMari today but starting in our laundry room! Love and light to all.
Y'all so cute! My first time seeing you. BTW, MK would say "Does it spark joy?"
Marie’s specifically says in the book to not go through anyone’s things but your own....
They also didn’t follow the correct order or the instructions to pile up all items in the category and then pick up each item - this obviously was made just for laughs.

This video was so funny 😂 thanks for the laugh
This was so fun to watch!! More!!
Never, EVER throw out a classic Weber Kettle BBQ grill. Never! It is the epicenter of joy.
I feel you. My family owned 40 acres on Clyde Hill and it was 'appropriated' by the government to build a observation station during WW2.
I love this video- you both are hilarious! Staying tuned for more!
over the years we made a habit of moving every 4-6 years. We wouldn't have even kept the Marie Kondo book...if we'd had it.
The book actually tells you to get rid of it when you are done reading. I immediately gave it away.
A huge propane grill with side burner etc and that very same Weber grill that hasn't been used in over 3 years!
you need to let kim win at everything
Penn in 2019: You might wear them again, Kim (heels)
2020: Slippers for the go!!!!
This was so funny! I literally sat here with my mouth open when I saw the shoe pile!
I made this weird involuntary shocked noise!!!
"Storage" is only for family heirlooms, and things used at least twice a year or more. If you are storing things, you are hoarding. I have less than 10 pairs of shoes total. A third are winter, a third are daily, a third are dressy.
When a proper name becomes a verb... Lol! Love your content guys!! 🙂🙂🙂
My husband & I relate so much to you guys. I have filled probably 10 trash bags for GoodWill in the last two weeks. My husband has been warned to Marie Kondo his things himself or I’m coming for his stuff......joy or no joy 😂
Love you guys. You are so funny. Thanks for all the laughs.
I thought having 14 pairs of shoes (to include things like hiking boots) was a lot... those piles of shoes are STAGGERING.
A conversation in our house, for sure!
Keep the watercolor. Just roll it up and put it in a tube. Or better yet, take a good pic of it, get it developed into a 5x7, frame it, stick on the wall🤷♀️. You guys got down to just 100 pairs of shoes! Good job👍.
I just love you guys and your family! You always spark joy with your videos.
Part two can’t wait
Against sentimental value? That’s the reason I keep everything I own! Everything has a precious memory stored inside, I don’t trust my mind to remember the memories if their monument is gone.
Way to stay in Cleveland, y’all. 😁
I am SOOO with you, Kim! When my "outside" is cluttered (nice way of putting it), my inside is anxious. However, y'all's Quarantine Queen gave me such PEACE-- thank you 'cause my pandemic clean up plans went up in flames!-LOL
Best episode ever! More, please!!
Ex-girlfriend, you did a great job
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Stand strong Penn 😂😂
um that picture of the map would be the perfect place for the painting the ex made. he can walk by it everyday and smile at the good memory.
Penn, I absolutely LOVE your pretty blue socks!!! I'm glad you didn't hide them by wearing one of the (30? 40?) pairs of shoes you had to choose from! Lol! But for real, I do like those socks... 🙂
You guys have a obsession with shoes! I'm on Penns team
Omg! His scream! Hahahha. Lol
Doing a "Swedish Death Cleaning" here LOL try magazines and breakable dust catchers next LMAO
Great, my wife is doing this. She talking to objects to see if it brings her joy...
Lololol
Time to get the whole family together to finally do the attic.
oh Penn, when will you learn :D Kim will always win lol. I have to say Kim, i'm like you in the sense that if things are cluttered and messy, i feel my insides turning lol.
I need to declutter so bad. I have at least 30 years of clutter but it's so overwhelming!
Love that you donated. ❤️
You both brought me joy since the start of this video. Subscribing 😊
I'm ruthless on getting rid of stuff. I tried to KonMari but I had nothing to get rid of
"It brings me the opposite of Joy" is Marie Kondo 2.0
Today at school a girl said to me why do you have so many shoes I watched this now I don’t feel so bad about owning like 15 pairs of shoes
I need my husband to watch this--he will never complain about my 12 pairs again!
This became personal re--al quick, LOL.
I have one pair snow/rain boots, a pair of uggs (for them cold but not wet days), 3 pairs of sneeks (2 warm weather and 1 "most weather") and a single pair of dress flats. Kim! His shoes on the white sofa‼️ your shoes on the kitchen island⁉️
Sooooo...did you end up doing the attic???? I feel a song coming on!!!!
Wow! So many shoes! 👞 👠 👟 😂
