At Lejeune, we had barrels pointed downrange at all times with no funky combat moves either, because we have stupid people who do stupid things--some of whom have trouble qualifying in the first place and any fool could do that because I did it well (at a range in Israel we once went to there was no safety whatsoever--if the range operator worked remotely I wouldn't have been surprised).
