- ■ PHILIPPINES, MINDANAO: Whilst moving from one Filipino island to the next is always an incredibly arduous endeavor, it is also wildly entertaining. Case in point, the boat from Leyte to Mindanao. From crazy diver hunting for coins on the ocean floor to the karaoke at the back of the boat. There was never a dull moment. Then we hit Mindanao and things got even more interesting....

When I was in Cancun circa 1995 I remember this bridge where foreigners would throw coins off of it, and the local kids would dive off of it and try to get the coins out of he river below. It's neat to see it's still going on in other places.

Reminded me of a time when I visited Camiguin, the young ones waiting for us to throw coins to dive for... always made sure I had plenty of coins to throw, they always found every last coin. Older relatives told me of a time, maybe 40 years ago when diving in the same spot, youngsters would bring up pearls.
