It actually depends on which field you are focusing your skills. If you are interested in Web security, you should be familiar with web programming concepts. you dont need to learn a language completely unless you also work on fixing bugs. But you need to understand how web based programming & scripting language works. eg. php, perl, json, jquery, asp.net, javascript etc.basically. You should learn atleast two or three programming language to understand concepts.. like Java, Visual C#, VB.NET, C, CPP. etc If you need more info, you can always ask me.
