  • Here is my newest etching finished, really pleased with the velvety black, and the lovely aquatinted light tones. I tried to create the sense of wanting to escape from being captive. The dark old abandoned factory where Aga Rayburn cookers were cast is now waiting to be pulled down. It’s left on it’s own and nature is quickly taking over. Such a massive sight that used to be masive industry. Now a scary dark and damp place full of falling down asbestos panels and funny coloured water pools on the floor.
I hope you like the atmosphere I have tried to create.
It’s a polished steel Aquatint Etching plate. I’ve used 2 types of aquatint as well as sugar lift and my own recipe of Etching Ink that we make. I’ve got my colour and consistency of ink just as I like it. This is blue-black onto Somerset Sarin 300gsm. And I am going to enter this into Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair when it opens and a few others to see how it does. The plate size is A2

Would you mind sharing how you create your sugar lift solution? What liquids in what proportion do you use? I tried with corn syrup, India ink and liquid soap at 5:1:1 but mine doesn't stick to copper plate as nicely as I would like. Your valuable comment would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
