- On this ride me and Mike are back in the Lake District in search of another great cafe stop and we were joined by a guest rider who is also a viewer and keen cycling enthusiast.
As always we started from the Lancashire town of Carnforth and made our way along the coast into Silverdale then on to Arnside before riding over some great little lanes near Brigsteer which took us then into Windermere and Ambleside. All I can say is that it was a cracking route and well worth giving it a go yourself. Cycling in the Lake District is always going to be a great experience ...
I hope this video gives you an insight into road cycling in the north west of England and inspires you to get out on your bike and to go for a ride.
I'm a cyclist and I live in the Pennines and a big thanks to Dave for joining us on this day..
Another great video Daz, you put a lot of time and effort in your making of them it is great viewing and much appreciated, with reference to sconegate 🤔😁 according to research, what's widely known as the “Devon method” is putting your clotted cream on first and covering that up with jam whereas the “Cornish method” involves spreading your scone with strawberry jam and then topping that layer with clotted cream.
So you two are Devon Daz and Cornish Mike 🤣🤣🤣🚴♂️🚴♂️😎👍
I am liking your approach to the all important scone debate there Terry😊and thank you once again for the comments about the video they are greatly appreciated. Wishing you a happy cycling season ahead with the lighter nights and warmer days to come. All the best from this side of the Pennines ..
Hi Daz fantastic camera work say hello to Mike and David. That ride was sensational it was a pleasure to watch 😊
Cheers pal, I watched your latest video where you were on the E-MTB. That's a nice looking bike.
and that camera created some great visual shots too, I have one but have never used it. I tried to leave a comment but they were turned off on the video, it looked like a great route with the glacial valleys .👍
Great stuff mate , you would be passing me on my touring bike with those speeds 😂 looked a great route for sure atb Dave 🚲👍
Cheers pal 👍
Hello Dave and thank you for posting a comment, it was a really enjoyable day out in the Lakes. Enjoy your riding my friend, spring is upon us...
Great video Daz, enjoyed watching that👍
You're welcome buddy and thanks for taking the time to post a comment 👍
Another cracking video, glad to see the leisure cyclists getting another mention😉
Thank you kindly. I guess we are all leisure cyclist at the end of the day Terry😁 and I take a lot of inspiration from people who get out on their bikes and give it go. It's never been an easy sport to get into and it is definitely a sport where the older you become, the more the benefits from regular riding start to pay dividends regardless of how quickly you can get from A to B...
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures there are days when you set off, the weather is against you , the first climb feels like a one in five , your head is full of nonsense but you keep going and after 1/2 an hour it's all worthwhile and the clouds have lifted.
Yes, that pretty much sums up riding your bike in the UK
Hi Daz, absolutely fantastic video and ill have to agree with a previous comment there just not long enough. So enjoyable to watch. And ill say it again you were the guy who got me interested in the fantastic sport of cycling 🤓🤙🏽
Thank you so much Jay. I try to keep the clips flowing and mix the live narration with the studio narration to keep the story alive but I am always conscious of not letting the videos run on for too long as I often think that the viewers will get bored of them half way through. 👍
That was another good un Daz. Nice to see you partnering up with one of your viewers. That'd do me round there with the flat roads 🤣😂.
It's just like Cheshire from Carnforth all the way to Flookburgh Di. Well worth a trip up the M6 for a day out where the sea will lead you to the mountains
Another great video Daz keep up the good work
Thank you Andy 👍
Looks a cracking ride, keep up the great work thanks for sharing
Thanks Andy, this ride had it all ...
Great stuff Daz. 👍🏻 Can’t wait until the warmer weather is here.
Tell me about it Sam, I've got caught out in a shower or a deluge all week on the bike 😫
Great video Darren, enjoyed the ride and going places I’ve visited in the past, not getting involved in the jam & Cream discussion because you know I will agree with Dave & Mike 😅 I was impressed with the way you dispersed the deer 🦌 it was amazing, still loads of rain on the roads but no pot holes that I could see, all very invigorating, the only way I’ll get any fresh air and exercise is with a newly acquired rollator, after my son makes me some ‘L’ plates for my maiden voyage:) take care until next time 👍
Hi Bernice, I hope you are well. The scone debate is always a great bit of fun to talk about 😂
We saw the deers in the field heading across towards the road so I put a spurt on and watched them leap over a wall onto the road, I'm just glad they made it across OK.
Best of luck of luck with the Rollator. Not sure what they are but it sounds like fun...
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures Hi again Darren, it’s quite an ingenious light weight traveling walking aid with built in seat ideal for me with a deteriorating spine and can only walk short distances, just hope the weather has a change of mind, I googled it and found a great demonstration it’s brand name is ‘helavo’ it will be a hundred years before you’ll need one! 🚴 just hope it has good brakes, there are a few steep inclines in the grounds I live in 😂
All received Bernice, I bet you can boost the motor on them things and get em to twice the power 😁
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures 😂🤣🤣😂 don’t tempt me! I’ve avoided having a mobility scooter, because I would be lethal on it 😅 I’ve seen a few near disasters over the past 20years, by some of my neighbours 🫣
Always inspiring. Thanks Daz🙂
You're welcome Andy, thanks for sharing a comment 👍
Cheers Andy
Make all you want I'll always watch them, a highlight of my RUclips viewing you make the best cycling videos, thank you.
Thanks for the positive comments again Brian. Much appreciated 👍
Always in awe of these big rides and another cracking video! Decent weather and longer days approaching now! 🙂
Once you know what to expect from your body on a long ride, they just become more of a pleasure than a pain. It's surprising what is achievable the more you push your self. Here's to warmer days ahead OMC 👍
what rip mate you 3 get moving pretty quick great vid luv your commentary daz always a chuckle ride safe mate cheers
No worries mate,,The lake district is one of the UK's top tourist attractions for the great outdoors, there's gold there too but not a fat lot 👍
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures yeah cool not surprisingly it’s in so many places mate
I used to drive that 505 some years back 👍🏻
It's a cracking place to explore pal 👍🙂
Cracking ride pal
Thank you Michael, it had some great flat sections a couple of nice climbs and fantastic scenery on this one
I was surprised to see David on your video! We're both members of the Bury Tandem Club. That looked like another great ride - that road by Coniston is cracking.
Hi Peter, I believe he will be out this weekend riding with the group supporting people with disabilities .
He did ok on the ride and we met - by chance near Bolton by Bowland in June .
It's nice to connect with people and share the passion of cycling .
I actually see the Bury tandem group out quite a lot and also tend to commute through Rammy Totty and Bury most days .
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures you'll have to come out for a ride with the club one time. It would make a good video!
Sure thing Peter, I saw you guys last year cycling through Walsden near Gordon Riggs and Dave was out on a ride that day with you, think you'd been to Skipton.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures I was on the Skipton fundraiser ride last year. Don't remember seeing you, must have had my head down gasping 🤣
Yeah Daz I never thought of that … you coming out with BTC . Like what Pete said … it would make a great video pal 👍
Neil & Katherine...Bury Clarion. Definitely legends.
Hi Lee, We were talking to them before the scone debate. It's a small world !
I used to occasionally bump unto Neil on his commute to work back in the day when he was supporting Matt Stephens (Ex GCN presenter) with the Sigma Sports team. I was always knackered after trying to hold his wheel
Just watching this again. You would of laughed at me today. I only went from Silverdale to Grange, thought I was never gonna get back home 😂 I posted it on my other channel (Grandad Rambles) if ya want a giggle haha
Nice one, I'll take a look 👍
Great video of a beautiful place. Dave's telling fibs: I'm from Cheshire and I've never seen 'im! 😁😉
Ha ha Johnathan, I think Dave's got it on the back of his hoodie.
As for the ride , I really enjoyed this route and no doubt will be back up there soon.
@jonathangreen7111 just look in any cafe in the area , and your’ll find me 😂
Hey up Dave
There is only one thing wrong with your vids Mr Daz...........they are not long enough !!
Hi Phillip, thats pleasing to know, I am always in a quandry about this as I do edit a load of stuff out to keep them flowing.
Nevertheless I do appreciate what you are saying 🙂👍
Thanks for a great video of a cracking loop in the lakes , yes i recognise many areas on that ride and there are some nice roads . When was this ride ? I’m guessing last year hence the shorts . I did a nice little loop this week from devils bridge to sedbergh then over a tough steep climb called stone rigg outrake from gawthrop but the decent down to barbon is epic in a deep valley .
This was back in mid July pal, I still have a load of videos to get through because I lost a load of data from an external hard drive failure. (Most of it is recovered now but £££ it wasn't cheap)
I know the climb you are talking about, me and Mike descended it on the Bowness ride. I want to climb it and then descend into Barbondale, it's a stunning area.
How's the bike getting on ?
My winter bike has been hammered with the bad weather. bearings, chains, the drive train and brakes are taking a beating.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures ok glad you get most of the footage back sounds stressy , yeah it’s a great landscape area & nice and quiet not many cars or people around , I was back there as it’s been three years since ! So it was good to be back . Weather has been poor again with freezing over night and more rain than we could imagine but clocks change soon so lots to look forward to soon pal
Yes that's the next milestone, it will be day light up to 7pm then. The weather needs to change, I am for ever getting home soaked and needing to get changed at the back door ☹️
Watch your self Daz! Black pudding man might start going cycling with out you now hes got a new mate. Brilliant video.
Nice one Matt, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing😉
Mike's been riding with the gang lately. They are doing a cycling break in Italy so he's been riding with the boys and reconnecting with them. I've been getting out a lot on my own but doing shorter rides so by Friday I am over 150 and usually around 175+ miles. It's just about getting the winter miles in.
I can't wait to get out on the carbon road bike. I'll be flying...
Not a chance 😂…. Morcambe and Wise , Canon and Ball , Daz and Mike , there definitely a double act 👌😂 Great company out on a ride , with plenty of laughs.
Cannon and Ball😂, Bobby Ball used to live up near Walsden in the hills Dave
Would love to take my bike to the Lakes on the train & then cycle it all the way back to Manchester
That would be a great return leg Brookes. You have to plan a route with the Yorkshire Dales and the Trough of Bowland in mind my friend.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures That's sounds amazing Darren, but I'm guessing it would end up quite a bumpy one 🤔🤣👍🏻
Probably , but you would never forget it 🙂
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures oh I have no doubt & what's the point of a ride with no hills? 💪🏻
Another wonderful video Daz , you do a great job taking the time and effort to do what you do putting them together. Anyway food for thought on sconegate 🤔🤣🤣🤣 According to research, what's widely known as the “Devon method” is putting your clotted cream on first and covering that up with jam whereas the “Cornish method” involves spreading your scone with strawberry jam and then topping that layer with clotted cream.
Therefore Devon Daz & Cornish Mike 😁🚴♂️🚴♂️👍
Another really good video like so many of your filming, does not age with time, watchable again and again.
Although I have to say that I did feel so sorry for your guest rider, Dave.
Mainly because Dave is unaware of the ways of the “Force” and there are certain way in which a scone needs to be eaten, cream first or jam. You cannot meddle with the laws of the universe. That I’m afraid is the way the world works. 😂 Plus the look on your face Daz made me laugh, absolute disgust. 😂
Plus poor Dave, riding with you two speed junkies I’m not surprised he’d be going hell for leather, he dare not do anything else.
I just wonder Mike and Daz if sometime this year you may do a group ride of many who enjoy your videos.
Simply all meet up and “Go for a ride” and not for those who are speed junkies or merely there to show off, but just don’t mind riding and being filmed and enjoying the day in “A day in the life of Mike and Daz”
Maybe the logistics might be a nightmare or not, who knows.
Just a sideline Daz and perhaps something for your viewers to remind themselves of.
Crashed the bike(Raleigh Revenio) last week and ended up in hospital. No bones broken but cuts, bruises and entire right leg black and blue from the crash. Usual story, going hell for leather in Blackburn and spotted gravel on a stretch of smooth tarmac at the last minute.
By the time I realised, both wheels had totally lost traction and that was that.
New mech, two new wheels, tyres and bar tape, plus a very angry wife, not sure which was worst, the wife or the crash.
But as you always say Daz, please please just take care as it’s not worth going full out if it means injury. I’ll be off the bike for a few weeks at least and the pain is massive.
At 57yrs I don’t bounce as well as I used to so please road fans, just take your time and enjoy the day and leave the speed to the twenty somethings 😂😂
Let’s all just take care on those roads, we “Band of brothers, and sisters” 😀👍
So many point raised here Steve, first of all I hope you are ok buddy, the Revenios can take some stick I will tell you that. I lost the front end of mine over the back of Halifax a few years ago and landed in the hedge. I also have some Cole wheels in the shed which came with my Raleigh. I took em off after one ride so they are like new if ever you are stuck. Like wise Raleigh handle bars and seat posts etc.
I guess the scone debate will continue too, Dave put an excellent case forward on this one which played right into Mike's hand but it was still nonsense. Cream first, then Jam your honour.
I agree with you about organising a group ride too, it has been on my mind for some time now. What distance would you recommend. I was thinking no more than 60 miles 100k or a half century 50 miler.
It is getting quite expensive to ride a sportive these days, £50 is about the going rate which is more than car tax for the year. I'm more than happy to plan a group ride for anyone who would like to ride on a given date. Speedy recovery my friend..
Thank you Daz for your good wishes. I wish I’d known about your spare wheels as I liked them and tried to find them on-line but no luck. 🙁 so thank you very much for your offer.
However the bike shop at Ewood sorted me out with a pair of Vision Trimax 30 but obviously it will be a few weeks before I can ride them and see if they are indeed any good. Ride wise Daz I think a 50mile’ish ride would be encouraging enough for a wide range of riders to have a go at and feel a real sense of achievement when competed rather than a “how fast and how far” an event which can be perhaps be so off putting. But I also think that if you made it an all day or a good few hours ride with cafe stop etc and being a social ride everyone would feel involved I’m sure.
I do think one of the main reasons your videos are so popular is because they are very encouraging as many riders and subscribers will be of varying age, ability and levels of bike quality. Better to be a ride perhaps with plenty of chatter, laughter and encouragement along with a good sense of “Right ladies and gents, let’s go for a ride” rather than being thrashed to death. Perhaps somewhere on the Fylde coast where many will be able to ride at speed.
I’m sure as long as you and Mike are on the ride it’ll be a real blast and a massive encouragement for riders who may feel discouraged that they can’t ride as far or as fast as many they see on cycling vids.
Please pass on my best to Mike and thank you again Daz. 😀👍
Thanks for the reply, It's definitely something I will look into, even if three people turn up. And as for the pace, it would be a nice steady one. If I ride on my own my average speed is usually very low anyway , 12mph -14mph, but it will be easier to ride with a group where everyone communicates what is doable and what is not. The last thing I would want as a cycling enthusiast is to be demoralised in the first 5 miles by a load of fast riders. I will keep you posted.
Will you be putting a video out every two weeks now summer is coming
I do my best to keep churning the videos out, they take a lot of time and effort to get the story right so hopefully I will catch up on the back log from last year as we move into spring. I also need to give the gold prospecting viewers some videos as they haven't had one for nearly a year. Thanks for asking 👍
What’s the make of Mikes bike if ya don’t mind me asking please. Thanks
He's on a Bianchi Specialissma. The colour is beautiful and it stands out from the crowd.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures it’s does. Thanks 👍🏻
Hi there would the canyon endurace cf8 bike be OK for this journey
Hi William, there's a few models out there, but I'd say definitely yes.
I have a Raleigh Revenio which is an endurance / sportive bike and I love it.
I prefer a compact set up 50-34 and 11x30 on the back. But a 11x28 is also fine.
@MrDazP1adv3ntures hi there this is about the garmin edge explorer, I used it yesterday but it wasn't showing the distance that I had ridden, confusing
@Williamgillan-y5v you can change the fields on the display.
Pick any one of the data windows and press on it for about 5 seconds, it will open up a menu to change it to what ever your preference is.
Get back ont shiny hunt pal.Regards Steve
Cheers Stephen, I was chatting with a friend about going out to a river last week. I need to get some 2024 stuff mixed in with 2023 to kick start things off.
