Did you say warmed up? Should I start the motor before draining the oil? What does that do?

Yes, if you warm up the motorcycle a bit (let it idle for 2 or so minutes). This helps any contaminants that are settled to become suspended in the oil so they come out when you drain. Added bonus is that the oil will drain faster!

Thanks! I’m going to do it on my bike (1997 model) on Monday, when my new filter arrives 😊
Hope my gaskets/o-rings are ok 😧
Thanks for the great video, and for the quick response to my questions 😃

@@GuysGearsAndGrit Everything went fine, thanks to good preparation :)
Soaked the oil filter in oil over night. The manual said for oil and filter change fill 1,9L. Since I soaked the filter I went down to 1,8L and the result was a oil level of slightly over half full. So 1,9 will be ok too.
Thanks again guys, for the video and quick response, have a fantastic week :)

Thanks for making a great video! I just got the exact same bike and there is no o ring, or grove for one to go into, on the oil filter cover. So strange.

That's really strange bro, haven't heard of that. does it seem like its leaking at all?
Is it an aftermarket oil filter cover maybe?

@@GuysGearsAndGrit I have a 1996 as well just not as nice as yours. Putting some Tusk D sports on it next week. LED taillight and upgraded slyvania silverstar head light. It has an Acerbis gas tank but I am going to switch back to a DR tank. I have a 98 model tank and new petcock to go with just need to coat the tank before using. I looked for this bike for 10 years and after owning two other dual sports I was able to snag this one. Love this bike and the E start.

I don’t think we have any fork tube boots to do a tutorial but if I’m not mistaken you would just have to unscrew the triple trees, slide the forks out get the fork tubes on and slide them back into the triple tree and tighten everything up!
